In a time where the K Series reigns supreme among circuit driven Honda's, Atsushi Komiya stands firm in his commitment to the B Series motor. His pursuit to become the fastest B Series Honda at Tsukuba reached a milestone early in this season after finally breaking into the 56 second lap range (56.888 on December 27th), coming within a tenth of Tokue's 2017 time of 56.7. Tokue also had a B18C, but it was bored to 2 liter.
Komi's EK9 underwent a serious transformation over the off season, reducing the overall weight of the Civic to an impressive 760kg. A new tube frame front end, Workshop Takumi dry carbon aero, and new gearing tailored to TC2000 all helped to thrust him into the 56's. The engine, built by the Kyoto based Impact!, has lasted Komi 6 entire seasons without major issue (the block had to be replaced last year), and is actually now a B16 block bored to 1.8 liter, with a B18C head (IIRC).
Get a close look at the build in our latest Machine Check! video, including an in-car video of his 56 second lap. Look forward to a full gallery to follow //
