Putting those Fedex and UPS MD-11's down was impressive, that plane really sucks on landing.

Incredible video! It looks like the airplanes are dancing as the wind shakes them from one side to another. Thanks for sharing!
@fhdowntheline182510 жыл бұрын
I think the Fedex /UPS MD11 drivers have nailed the landings better than other large jet pilots (assuming exact same conditions) . 12.15 JAL 767 chickened out at the last second.

It was already going so slow that even if it flares, the descent rate will not decrease
@andycyyeung110 жыл бұрын
with the Sri Lankan A340 at 06:50, because in a airbus the autothrottle is usually engaged during the landing so it "retards" the throttle automatically over the runway, the plane was a little high on the G/S and it retarded the thrust which caused the plane to slow and looks as if it was just falling out of the sky.

Landed here once. Insane crosswinds As a windsurfer I noticed through the plane white caps on approach. They need to add a different runway.

Yes buildings, mountains can create turbulence. Aircraft too can create turbulence, wake turbulence to be specific. The winds generated from the aircraft as it passes by creates turbulence. Still weather is the main reason

The pilot of the second MD-11 didn't put the spoilers up on touchdown, that's why the plane kept shifting from side to side.
@DeltaAirtran10 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily, the pilots arm the spoilers, which means once they touchdown, they automatically deploy. The reason why they may not deploy right on touchdown is because the throttles may not be idle upon touchdown, not all the wheels in the main gear touchdown firmly, etc.

Damn that Sri Lankan A340 hammered the runway! Really great video!
Because of continuous arrivals, there isn't a safe distance between the aircraft on approach and the runway to allow the aircraft holding short of the runway to takeoff

Increase the throttles then. I'm not going to argue what the pilots should have done because I haven't flown an aircraft the size an A340 in that type of weather and probably won't in the future. Just would be common sense to increase power and lift to keep it from sinking.

2018-01-18 I want all the audiences to see the following scenes in this picture and comment. 1)2’18”: Ground Spoilers of Fedex’s Md-11 are kept open even if it is in the air after a little bounce. 2)5’19”: Ground Spoilers of UPS’s Md-11 are kept open even if it is in the air after a bounce. I think, generally speaking, all the ground spoilers of an aircraft have to be closed while it is in the air. Does the ground spoiler system of MD-11 meet Airworthiness Standards? Thanks.

The Fedex at 1:20 . The end of the wing is bouncing and twisting. Doesn't that effect the aerodinamics as far as lift etc.?
@andycyyeung110 жыл бұрын
no the sudden flex is usually caused by a gusting winds and does not affect the aerodynamics of the wings. you can also see the pilots counteracting it but the ailerons and some of the spoilers.
@dogspitzen602710 жыл бұрын
Andy YCY The spoilers on most large planes now are commonly run by a computer.They're not flapping in the wind as they appear to on final touchdown. The main purpose of spoilers is to diminish the aerodynamic lift of the wing. You can see them flutter in response to whether their wing is lifting or dropping. Military pilots use them often to boost the effect of the ailerons in a snappy bank...lol!
@andycyyeung110 жыл бұрын
uta- lix nono I meant the input in the ailerons is large enough to trigger some spoilers on that side of the aircraft. ofc the autospoilers would have been armed for landing
