Of particular interest to coach enthusiasts is the Yelloway Trathen advert. This was when the iconic Rochdale and Plymouth based operator was on its last legs. At the time, the company was owned by ATL Holdings, a subsidiary of Carlton PSV. After a lengthy hiatus - returned to stage carriage operation on the 26 October 1986. Almost a year on (24 November 1988), the company was under the control of Crosville Motor Services. Which for the avoidance of doubt has no connection with the recently defunct Weston-super-Mare operator with the same name. Today, what was originally Crosville Motor Services is part of Arriva Bus and Coach. Arriva's precursors British Bus pulled out of local bus operations in Rochdale, Oldham, and Tameside by 1996. Before Hubert Allen retired from the company in 1985, Yelloway Coach Services had a tie-up with Trathen, enabling them to expand their activities in Devon. Prior to then (and the foundation of the National Bus Company), you could connect with southbound coaches by changing at Cheltenham. On a happier note, the Yelloway name returned to our streets in 2007. Now based in Chadderton it specialises in private coach hire, day trips and school bus contracts. Today's coaches have a contemporary version of the iconic cream and tangerine livery.
