I really appreciate having this lens and the 17mm 1.4 in my kit. It does a fine job and I like having an inexpensive way to play around with these combinations of focal length and maximum aperture. For me the outputs are just fine.

Love this lens. Find myself grabbing this more than the XC 35mm F2 for walkabout photos. I replaced the lens cap with a plastic pop on one. I solely only take photos so I prefer manual lenses for my style of photography. Great lens and great video.

I've owned this and the ttartisan 50mm 1.2 for a few months and I love them both, the 35mm lives on my xt3 by default. I'm looking to buy a wider angle lens next, I've heard good things about the Pergear 25mm f1.8, would love to see a review of that.

I have the Pergear on order. Although the shipping time was 1-2 months estimated. I'm wondering how the 23mm TTartisans will be.

Great photos as expected. Thanks for sharing. Looks like a good school lens so students learn proper convention settings to avoid first learning with a PASM layout.

I have many Fujifilm cameras, including those with the most current sensors, but my favorite body for this lens is my older X-E2s. That sensor with this lens gives a very vintage almost analog look. My real Fuji 35mm f/1.4 lives on my newer cameras, so I know this focal length and the rendering from the best (IMO) optic for this brand. But this tiny and inexpensive lens is a very good value if you wish to go old school.

Hi Damian. Great video. I have a X-T2 with a 18-55 and wanted a budget prime as I wanted to not spend loads whilst I discovered if I liked a prime and if it would suit me as I continue to discover what photographic style I have. I was especially nervous with it being a manual focus. I have to say that I got used to the aperture ring at the front very quickly and have come to terms with the difference in how I need to think if there is any movement in the shot that needs focusing on. I can live with the vignetting as it does not worry me too much and I like the look. I have had to learn more about chromatic aberration and how to deal with it either at the shooting stage or the editing stage, but again this is not so bad when you think of the cost. Sun flares can be an issue sometimes, but again you learn how to compensate and get an alternative shot rather than a worse one. All in all I really enjoy the journey this lens is taking me on so far and am very pleased with it. Would I recommend it... I have never used a more expensive fuji prime so can't compare but guess it would be better to spend loads of cash on one if you can afford it....especially if you are a pixel peeper, but to someone that wants a solid well made little lens that is a fraction of the price of a a Fuji that seems to give great results in finished shots and helps you learn more about photography and your particular photographic style on a budget... without a second thought, definitely. Off the back of this I am just purchasing another budget lens... a Zonlai 22mm f1.8. Lets see what that is like. Have you used one? May the adventure continue.

Hi, it's great to read your opinion!! Thanks for sharing your experience. I think you've summed it up really well, and I agree with what you've said. I haven't tried the zonlai no, could be another interesting one.

I think the Fuji 23mm 2.0 needs another look. I think It's beautiful. I think I'd like to shoot only bokeh without subjects to get a catalogue of bokeh shots to use in photoshop just like a catalogue of skies is handy.

In your experience, better this TTartisan or the previously reviewed Meike 35mm f1.4 on a Fujifilm body?

So many reviews of this lens complain on about the screw-on lens cap like it even matters. A decent plastic pinch cap costs almost nothing. I appreciate that TTArtisan are paying some sort of pseudo-homage to vintage lenses with their designs, including screw-on caps and slip-on caps. Anyone who shoots Pentax pancake Limited primes will have the same issue with such old-style metal caps. My old Takumar has a metal slip-on cap that slips off more often than not. I'm just happy to leave a metal hood on permanently and forget about the cap.

I have this lens, I only recommend it to starter photographers, the lens is great to experience wide aperture mechanics but it lacks character, it has a weak sharpness, it's colours are not close to be compared to the real fujifilm lenses. But for this price point, it is great value, If you are on a higher level of photography I highly suggest you take a look at the fujinon 35 mm f/1.4 or 35 mm f/2

I think that's it Sam, great value and sometimes that lets people get into something they previously couldn't.

I got mine on the back of the 50mm f1.2, which is superb. It's not quite as good as the 50mm, but it still is pretty dam good. Honestly my XF 35mm f2 is better and provides quick AF, but not by much and is around six times dearer and it's also heavier. The TTartisans is better than any adapted 35mm I have tried and obviously lighter and more compact. The f1.4 aperture is bit optimistic. Sure it provides a nice bright viewfinder image for focusing, but its not particularly sharp. Use it from f2 and you're good to go. Still it's there if you really need it. B&W images are really nice from it. I like the build and design. IMO the aperture ring is just where it should be, as it's easier to see and read. It's better than the Meike 35mm f1.4 I had for a while, in terms of usability due to the lightly clicking aperture ring and an accurate hard infinity stop. It also seems to be better built. The IQ is about the same. Like Damien suggests, it matches the XE series of cameras well. Mine spends a fair bit of time on my XE3. Also, the old and smaller X-T1 is a good match too. If I liked wide angle lenses, I would be after both their 17 and 23mm lenses, but I don't so I'm not! Although maybe I should be :-).

32mm f2.8 you say eh🤔 might not be so great for Fuji but Sony for what I remember doesnt have a decent ~200 £/€/$.... Also, they could have made it a more interesting 28mm,....make it an f2 and I'd happily leave my xf27 home.
