In today's video, I review the TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 lens - a BUDGET, modern day vintage lens. I was on the market to find a fast aperture budget lens with a vintage feel and this lens hit all the marks. The TTArtisan 35mm lens is reminiscent of old film lenses. I would say it's comparable to the vintage lenses I own in terms of build quality and image performance (gasp).
Some key features of the lens include:
fast aperture of f/1.4, up to to f/16
clicked aperture ring - clicks in half stops (up until f/4, where it clicks in full stops)
manual focusing
39mm filter thread
Sonnar optical lens design
More information about the Sonnar optical design (along with other lens designs): www.pencilofrays.com/lens-des...
TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 lens (Fuji X mount): www.bhphotovideo.com/c/produc...
- the lens is available with Canon EF-M, Fujifilm X, Leica L, Micro Four Thirds, Nikon Z, and Sony E mounts)

Great job. It's the lens I'm using right now and one added bonus with this len is its close minimum focus which I enjoy very much.

• Anyone whos purchasing or purchased ttartisans 35mm f1.4- it has a 39mm filter thread & if wanting to use filters on front of Lens & you already have filters but larger sized ones, just buy some 'filter step-up rings'..for example: 39-52mm, this may save you money, rather than buying same filter/filters in a 39mm size too. Enjoy! 👍

Very useful video! I was skeptical (and preoccupied?) about Chinese lenses until I gave a try to TTArtisan 23/1.4. I am a vintage lens person, I actually have a couple of vintage gems (Voigtlander, Zeiss and I am planning to buy a Meyer Trioplan 35/2.8 also) but recently I wanted a smallish camera for everyday carry. The obvious choice was the X100V but is out of stock these days and the price is ridiculous! Also, I have some reservations about Fuji cameras as well and the fact that I don’t like auto focus makes the X100V even less palatable (its lens is focus by wire, so MF is an afterthought). After seeing some videos from TTArtisan users on KZbin I decided to buy the 23/1.4 for a try… it’s cheap after all. My idea was to pair it with my old a6000 and make a decent X100V alternative. And guess what: this lens is a hidden gem! It has almost the same character with my true vintage lenses plus it’s smaller, sharper in the center even wide open and doesn’t need any adapter! This way my old backup camera won a second life. Now I am considering buying a 50/0.95 for my full frame…

Thanks for this video, it helped me a lot to understand what I want in a lens. I'm still struggling to decide between the 35mm and 50mm ttartisan lens.

If you have a Fujifilm (or APS-C) camera, I would go with the 35mm. In my opinion, the 35mm focal length is somewhat narrow and I would even prefer 23mm for the wider field of view for more general use.

Would you use it to shoot video (meaning indie film, not commercial projects)?

I think you can use it for creative effect! I’ve used it for low light situations, or when I wanted bokeh in my shot. However, just keep in mind that the aperture ring is clicked, so you won’t be able to smoothly change it during a recording.

it’s a manual lens! it doesn’t work with the camera’s autofocus

there should be a setting in the camera called “shoot without lens” which basically allows the camera to take photos with lenses that are manual

The TTArtisan 35mm lens (for Fujifilm) uses the Fuji X-Mount, so it connects to the camera like any other Fujifilm lens! Either the copy of the lens has a broken mount, or you purchased a TTArtisan lens with a different mount. TTArtisan also sells different camera mounts for Nikon, Sony, Leica, and Micro 4/3 cameras.

Hello. Can this lens give the same quality as a nikon af-s 35mm f2.0 lens?
@chairsoutside
@chairsoutside Жыл бұрын
Since Nikon is Nikon, I’d assume the Nikon lens has better overall performance. However, you can get pretty sharp photos even at f/1.4. Either way, I think you’d purchase this lens because 1. you want something cheap to cover this focal length or 2. just a fun lens

Does TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 lens better than 7Artisan 35mm f1/4 m2?
@chairsoutside

If you mean the 7artisans 35mm f/1.2 Mk II - I think it depends on your needs. If you want more shallow depth of field, go with the 7artisans. I think they’re generally similar aside from the differences in aperture. I ended up getting the TTArtisan 35mm f/1.4 because I liked the design better and it was cheaper. I have also read online that a lot of people say TTArtisan lenses generally have a better build quality than 7artisans lenses.
