Quick question! In your opinion, which would be a better lens for interior photography? 7artisans 25mm F1.8 or the Pergear 25mm F1.8?
@rangersmith465211 ай бұрын
As I return to hobby photography after a decade-long hiatus, I find that a lot of "influencers" spend much of their time trying to impress viewers with their high-end gear and pixel-peaking-worthy results. I get the sense that most of us hobbyists are more interested in having fun and producing usable results (for our meager purposes) than in maxing out our gear specs and creating extremely precise images. That makes inexpensive lenses like this so compelling.

I have been shooting budget and vintage lenses for about one year. The biggest suprise is that I seldom miss the ability to auto focus. It is a great way to learn zone focusing and aperture settings. Manual focus is not really a problem when shooting video either, as you will never ruin a shot when your camera starts searching or loses a focus point.

I had this lens for a while now, and I love shots I've taken with it. At one point, I sort of didn't like it as much and tried to sell it for really cheap but no one was buying it. I decided to try it a few more times after a while and just learned to love it and use it if I need that focal length (aside from using my zoom). Also love how close you can get. Great lens, especially for how much you're paying for.

@matthieuzglurg601511 ай бұрын
I've had this lens for about 3 years now, and it's a pretty solid performer. However it was made for micro four thirds (and I would advise you to use it on an MFT camera as a 50mm equiv if you want to take full advantage of it). On APS-C, we clearly get outside of the area for which 7artisans have corrected it. What does that mean? Well center is extremely sharp but the corners are absolutely horrendous. This is especially apparent at closer focusing distances. Even when you stop the lens down, they don't sharpen up until about f/11 (which is not indicated on the aperture ring??), and that's also where the image softens up due to diffraction. In a nutshell, it's a really good lens if you want shallow DOF, with a subject in the center of the frame. For everything else, either shoot crop 1:1 or stop down the lens at f/11 or tighter, and accept the diffraction limits. Forget landscape photography if you want maximum sharpness with it. It's not a bad lens. It's a very good value for what it is even. King of budget lenses though? That just makes me want to NOT look at the other budget lenses...
@markwiemels11 ай бұрын
I don't mind some soft edges and corners, there are some very expensive cine lenses that give this same look, but that is a good thing for people to know. Thanks for sharing it.

I actually prefer to manual focus. It's how I learned photography way back in high school (B&W only, fully manual, developing the film and image prints by hand) and love the hands-on approach it forces. It's why, after having and loving my Canon 70D for a decade for its live view and video, I got a used Fujifilm X-T2 for its dials and ability to ignore bells and whistles with being forced to manual focus with the cheap lenses.

Recently got my first camera, a second-hand Fujifilm X-S10 body-only. With a lot of different expenses on the horizon I needed an extreme budget lens which happened to be the 7artisans 25mm f1.8. It did it's job but the lack of AF was a massive downside, especially when I was forced to be in front of the camera and not behind it. I've since acquired a Fujinon XF 18-55mm f2.8-4.0 which I'm in love with. That said the 25mm f1.8 is still with me at all times and comes out for specific low-light situations.

I have a copy of the 7artisans lens. I just wanted to note that you can get the same soft and high quality background blur at F4 if you are close enough to the subject in focus. I have taken some of my best pictures with this lens doing exactly that (using X-E1 and X-T3). You can get both the good sharpness and the nice subject isolation and background blur that way when the situation and lighting conditions allow it. Between these two I would personally choose the 7artisans F1.8 every time because of that. I just believe that the glass in this lens has the better potential to create beautiful images. It can do things on close range or wide open that the other lens can't. I say that even though I normally prefer a clicked aperture ring and I also like the visual design of the TTartisans F2.0 more but it's the results that matter the most. By the way I think it's a great match for my X-E1. The size and weight is perfect for the small body, the focal length is very versatile and since this old (but great!) camera has slow autofocus it's not much of a disadvantage to use a manual lens with it.

It is a great lens for the price, especially the close up performance. However, it might be worth noting that the edges are muddy and the manual focus experience can be challenging - at least on my copy. The focus throw is very short and a turn of one mm can be the difference between in focus and totally out of focus, even for subjects far away. So it can be a slow process where you need to rely on magnification for the best result. I would not trust the markings on the lens and if you try zone focusing you will have to stop down more than you would on another lens or be prepared to miss many shots.

BUYERS BEWARE: i have this lens for M43 and its true, the build and picture quality are very good for the price, however it has 1 major flaw - the scales on it are completely off. the focus distance is a bit off but its not a big deal, however the zone focus scale is practically useless and is there just for the looks. this being a manual lens it gets really frustrating since you cant rely on the scale and have to figure out the focus zone by yourself and adjust it every time you use it. im not sure if the problem is the same on all mounts but on m43 do not trust the scales or all of your pictures with be severly out of focus.

I have the Pergear 25mm F1.8 on my Fooj X-E2 and it’s the best 60$ I have ever spent on Photography.

Will buy one for my IR moded Fuji X-A2 so I don‘t have to take my wife’s lenses on my trips. A lens with 80mm and a similar price/result ratio would be great. The camera is not often in use and so my budget is limited

So funny, I found this lens almost a year ago, but it had a price error so I only paid 15 bucks... Didn't mind as much that it was the silver one lol

What ultra-budget lens would you recommend for astrophotography on a Sony A7s mark I?

Thank you, I'll check it out, it may be because Amazon has sold out already.

Sir, I have questions for you. 😊 (I make funny horror videos indoors with my classmates and friends with mobile cameras. We were planning to buy the camera and lens for a long time. Saw a review of the Brightin Star 35mm F0.95 APS-C in one of your videos. I like it very much.) Should we stretch the budget and buy the 7artisans 25mm F1.8 APS-C Prime Lens instead of the Brightin Star 35mm F0.95 APS-C ? Will it be suitable for professional film quality? Or do you have any good advice on this matter? -Thanks in advance! ❤

ahh thanks for reviewing i bought this with Meike 25mm F1.8 tbh if i gave head to head bit confuse sometimes which one meike which one 7artisans due almost same characteristic but i would say 7artisans win in terms of smooth characteristic image result but if talk about sharpness in my opinion Meike sliiiiiightly win
