A couple of things. First, this lens is a Sonnar optical formulation. This is an old design from the 1930s. Old doesn’t mean bad, but it does mean a particularly recognizable look. Notably, Sonnars are sought after for portrait work. It has significant uncorrected spherical aberration. When shot wide open, it’s not necessarily soft, but has been described as rendering rounded, organic details. I agree. There are modern Sonnar implementations, e.g., the Zeiss C-Sonnar. I have this lens, and it’s not cheap. Optically, it’s not dramatically better than my copy of the TTArtisan lens. Second, it is possible that you have a below average copy of the lens reviewed. That points to possibly quality control issues rather than fundamental design problems. I’d find that surprising, however, given that they probably shipped you a hand selected copy (given that it’s engraved.). so, curious.

this lens is quite an interesting look - really appreciate how it tapers off at the tip making the over all form look much smaller. wonder how this compares to the 7artisans 35mm f/1.2
I do enjoy viewing your photography, but I have to say, most all your images are post processed with blown out highlights; too overexposed for my liking...

7:11 Sorry but I missed you here. Everyone else says this is one the SHARPEST lenses they have ever seen and you say "Not Sharp" "Nothing above ordinary"?!!! I'm totally confused and please elaborate on this as to you have a bad copy of the lens, you are not sure what Sharpness is or Really this lens is not sharp and everyone else on YT are liars. I seriously ask the question and please note that there is no sarcasm or unfair nasty troll in what I say. Just want to know the truth.

Andrew, I think your story telling has so much improved over the past years. It‘s a joy listening to you talking about your journey impressions. I always loved your reviews but they more and more turn into a piece of art. Thanks for all that effort you put into that and please continue the good work! I‘m telling this altought I know your lens reviews and the inspiration they were for me did cost me a couple of thousand bucks in the past :-). For me it was money well invested.

Woah, it has clicks? That's almost an insta-buy! :D Seriously, I recently bought a Meike 23mm 1.8 more as a gimmik, not expecting much from it but a short "yay, a new toy arrived" rush, but I loved it after just a few days. My ONLY issue with it and almost all cheap China-lenses is the clickless aperture. And judging from your photos, this is a lovely lens too, same as with the Meike I don't like the clinical perfection of highend glass especially in portraits, although I really fail to see anything wrong in your landscape and architecture shots too. But, I need to ask, this looks almost exactly like the 7 Artisans one which comes with a hood, sure it's not the same? - Edit: Bleh, silly me, as if I hadn't looked at the 7 Artisans before and knew it was clickless...

I own the 7 Artisans 25mm f1.8 for my Fujifilm and I love it for dining out or bar photography. It seems to suit the dark indoor settings well and when taking images of something mundane like a bar scene or dinner scene it add something I can only call old school charm to the image.

Forgive me for being petty, but the company offering this lens is “TTartisan” (no space, no “s”). This is in contrast to “7artisans” (no space, but with an “s”, and the first “a” sometimes capitalized, sometimes not). (As 7artisans became more commonly known before TTartisan, I think English speakers have become used to saying “artisans”.)
@ziv2liv Жыл бұрын
I know this is from 2 years ago, but I just stumble upon this video. Yes, I have this lens and the TTArtisan 17mm which does have room for a filter. Based on your photos and my experience with this lens, it desperately needs a CPL filter. It also seems to me that it better for B&W photos since the colors are pretty shallow.

Thanks for sharing. I've just bought this lens for my z50 from Amazon. When I took out the lens from the box, I found that the plastic cap on the mount was locked. I tried very hard but couldn't turn it neither way clockwise nor anticlockwise. This is a small and delicate piece of toy. I don't want to use force. I wrote Amazon and the seller about this and asked for a replacement. The seller responded quickly but they advised me to rotate the cap to the opposite side. Of course, It didn't work. I finally used my hairdryer to some warm air on the cap for a few minute. Then I turned it clockwise. It worked! I believed it must have been closed too tight before packing in the box. I can understand now why you have trouble taking the lens off from your camera now. 😅😅
@ninjastronghold3 жыл бұрын
i must dissagree . my copy is acceptably sharp wide open and hits top from f2.8 , also fits perfectly in mount. amazing lens, just like its bigger brother 50mm f1.2. amazing value for money, leaves all chinesse competition miles behind.
@maxdmachy3 жыл бұрын
you mentioned the TTartisan m-mount 35mm f 1.4, different design, more elements. Does anybody by any chance have any experience with that lens. I got one because the ordered 7artisans 35mm was out of stock. I like the kind of lens. However my copy is unusually bad compared to other recent cheap lenses I own. I certainly care less about sharpness than Andrew. However if a lens is really soft even in the center at f5.6, that's strange. Andrew, is that question here okay? If not, please delete the post

I’ve got the ttartisan 50mm f1.2…it’s a great lens, sharp and it has nice background separation from the subject…the only negative (at this price it’s expected) thing is that you get a little bit of chromatic aberration…nothing you can’t fix in post though. In general I think that this is a more “hobbyist” lens than a professional one, because of the lack of autofocus…you can’t shoot a wedding, events or products without autofocus…first you’ll miss important moments and second you’ll be exhausted trying to nail focus. I keep this one for myself and not for professional work. Ps. Great video

Very cool shot at 3:35! I've never really liked the TTArtisans lenses enough to buy them when used Voigtländers are roughly the same price or cheaper. And they always seem to have a higher optical performance to me. The Voigtländer 35mm F1.2 is one of my all time favourite lenses, it really is rather wonderful.

As usual I like your videos. This time around the rural photos felt a little depressing. Maybe that was the intent or maybe it’s a reflection of how I’m feeling today. In regards to the lens the price to performance ratio definitely makes it tempting. Using it as a learning tool or stepping stone comes to mind.
