For portraits I will stick with my Olympus 45mm f1.8 its getting on a bit but is very light, gives lovely sharp images and gives beautiful background blur.

Hi there! Thanks for review, Peter. Looking forward to your portrait pictures, maybe in comparison with the Oly 45mm/1.8 or another portrait lens?

If the focal length appeals to you, it is cheap enough to give it a try and see if the character of the lens fits your style.

I have an old Zenit 44M 58mm lense with the same arrangement of focus ring and aperture. I used it a lot back in the day. I recently procured an adaptor to mount it on my E620. I feel that for portraits it is many times better than the kit lens.

Nice budget portrait lens. I already have a Olympus 45mm lens, so I am good, but a nice lens for someone starting out their lens collection.
@jshanni20663 жыл бұрын
That straight-bladed aperture might give very nicely defined sunstars, though you'd have to juggle diffraction effects at smaller F-stops. And the lens is a modified sonnar design, so you'd expect soft and glowy wide open, but plainer and sharper stopped down. I think it looks pretty versatile if you like old style sonnar rendering. Its a shame it's aps-c based, it could be even smaller if it was only mft sized.

I've watched both your review and Jimmy's review. For the money, a person needing a reasonably priced 50mm, the lens is great. The thing is that I am finding very good value in the 4/3rds lenses by Olympus. That's like 2013ish ? Anyway, I found nothing on KZbin on the Olympus 8mm f/3.5...with an inexpensive 4/3rds, AF adapter to M4/3rds adapter, voila...I got 180 degrees field of view....hundreds of dollars less than the 8mm f/1.8 pro....It's like 4/3rds lenses are utterly forgotten...

4/3rd lenses are rare. Not very much videos about them. I have only one, the 50-250mm f2.8-3.5: kzbin.info/www/bejne/np7XaouKlNRkhsU

I agree that the bokeh is a bit strange.

Greetings from southern Indiana, USA! I liked your evaluation of this lens. But it doesn't make me want to add it to my MFT lenses. It reminds me starting out in photography with a camera that had a needle to help with correct exposure. With one hand I controlled the shutter, the other the aperture. And the focus. Now I've gotten used to the auto features on the cameras and I really don't want to go back! I saw something about a Sigma 56mm f/1.4 for MFT. Did you do a review of this already? It was not cheap, but not horribly expensive -- about $500. I would think it would have the auto features. And I see you have a comment earlier about the phrase being "dirt cheap."
@ForsgardPeter3 жыл бұрын
Yes I know about the phrase... English is my third language. I might just correct that. I have not tested the Sigma 56mm f1.4 lens. I have used it once and it is quite good value for the money.

@@ForsgardPeter Greetings from southern Indiana, USA! Three languages! WOW! I speak one and a half, and I'm not always sure what that half is. I think it depends on what country I'm in. Thanks for the info on the sigma lens. But it is close to other lenses I have so it's not a likely future purchase. But the knowledge of it is good to have.

98 Euro? How to they produce such a cheap lens. What are the working conditions and the earnings for the workers like in the factory? I guess, not good at all. I would never buy such a cheap lens. It's ethically not justifiable and smells like exploitation of the working class. High quantities also push the climate warming, because many photographers buy a lot of cheap lenses instead of one good lens that is produced with ethical and environmental working conditions.
@letni95063 жыл бұрын
Maybe it's how much these lenses should be. I cant help feeling part of the price of the most expensive ones are a sort of luxury item tax. It's not as good as the more expensive ones so should cost less. And some lenses are made with almost full automaton.
@ForsgardPeter3 жыл бұрын
It is always a question that is this lens too cheap. It is also a problem that we do not really know how these lenses are made. The same goes with every lens and other gear.

Peter Forsgard is Finnish and his English is superb. All non-native English speakers will have an accent, and that accent will make certain words sound different to English ears. So it is a matter of listening better, not Peter speaking more clearly. This channel is very informative and helpful, and we should be grateful for it.
@felixcat43463 жыл бұрын
@@ForsgardPeter I'm an expert in this area and I can tell your overall pronunciation is very good. The error was made more to a lack of interest in the subject.
