TTC: Orion VI CNG

A ride aboard TTC Orion VI CNG # 9217 on the 98 Willowdale-Senlac route. This bus was equipped with Cummins L10G engine and Allison B400R transmission and used Compressed Natural Gas for its fuel. This bus retired at the end of November 2006.

It's weird that Orion VI retired in 2006 while Orion V retired in 2015

9217 was the last unit to retire in the end of November 30, 2006 before December 1 arrive. Last Appearance November 30, 2006 Reason All the series fleet retired

From what I hear, shortly after it was converted (just after it was converted), it didn't have a single breakdown according to a driver from Arrow who is now at Wilson.

The problem was basically that the TTC didn't want to lose the wheelchair position by placing the fuel tank in that location. Don't know why they couldn't have just moved the wheelchair position.

I looked at some of the NYCMTA HEVs and it looks like they have Lead Acid. Actually, the problem about is that its running out of juice. We have already one OG that was converted from lead acid to a lithium-ion battery.

they retired it because the couldn't convert the bus in a diesel from CNG

IIRC, don't you guys have Lead Acid batteries on your HEVs? Cause we have a big problem with out NGs and OGs with Lead Acid problems.

service on this route is sooooo frickin infrequent. It used to be much better and was a dependable route. Ironically with the density of the area having increased in the last two decades the service is worse. Go figure!
