Keir Starmer reiterated messages from the king's speech with the opening of parliament, saying that his would be a 'government of service'.
Subscribe to Guardian News on KZbin ► bit.ly/guardian...
Starmer said: 'Under his [Sunak's] watch, the last parliament was the first in modern history to leave living standards in a worse place than they found them.' He accused the previous government of focusing on the 'horse trading of Westminster politics rather than long-term national interest' adding that Labour will 'close the door on it forever'.
Rishi Sunak congratulated the prime minister on his election victory, telling MPs that Labour 'had successfully tapped into the public's desire for change,' adding that his party would hold the government to account to ensure it delivers on the commitments it made to voters.
