Detroit Diesel inline 6-71TA plus ZF transmission; you probably remember OC Transpo's that had the Cummins Big Cam and Allison HT-747. Our Crown-Ikarus 286s also had the Cummins Big Cam and Allison.

Yes, TTC did sell a bunch of these to OC Transpo in 1997 and 1998 to add to their existing fleet when TTC’s Orion V Lifts, V CNG Lifts, VI CNGs and Nova RTSs were delivered. OC Transpo retired all of their Orion IIIs months before TTC (January 2003 if I recall)…

Awesome, I rode them quite a few times on that route during the ‘90s as I lived on Anglesey Blvd between 1989 to 1996. Afterwards, it was mainly 39 and 53 as I moved to North York and remained there until about 2000/2001.

It’s unfortunate that both TTC and Ottawa’s OC Transpo had the same ordeal with this design of articulated bus, but equally unfortunate that TTC went a decade without buying any newer ones from New Flyer like OC Transpo did in 2001. Had they purchased some of the D60LFs or later DE60LFRs TTC would’ve had higher capacity buses and saved money rather than buying more and more 40ft buses from Orion which required more drivers, maintenance, funding, etc.
