12:30 Is there any option to make the waveform semitransparent? On the rigol dho804 other waveforms are visible under the front one.

Really great question! Not as far as I can tell - I couldn't find a way to make the trace semi transparent, but it seems to work in layers, so by say tapping on channel one it brings that to the front (upper before, and lower picture is after I tapped the yellow trace) tinkrelectronic.ca/images/sds800x/wf1.jpg Hope that helps! =)

@@tinkrelectronic Thank you, opaque waveforms is a big drawback, please, let me know, if you find how to fix it.

Hi. Thank you - a very useful introduction to this scope. Just wondering how easy is it to read the small text on the scope screen? I am considering one of these scopes but concerned reading the small text might be challenging so am also considering the larger screen on the SDS1000XHD. Some commentators suggest the SDS804X HD screen is very crisp so makes the text easy to read. What are your thoughts please?

Great question! I'm at the age where apparently the eye muscles weaken causing close up things to be blurry. I am able to read the small text on the screen (without glasses) usually from 1.5 to 2 ft away from the scope (provided I'm more directly in front of the screen). There is also under display options a feature to make the fonts larger. Now don't get me wrong, I would always love a larger screen scope, but the price difference is dependant on importance and budget.

@@tinkrelectronic That is very helpful thank you. I am probably a bit older than you as my eyes went the same way about 20 years ago. I am right with you about the larger screen but not for the price differential between the 800X and 1000X unless the 800X is really uncomfortable to read. Thank you again.

Great video! Thank you! Just wondering if you are able to test whether a Wifi USB dongle can be used with the SDS804X rather then connecting it to an Ethernet cable to the LAN? Hopefully you have a USB Wifi dongle that you can test. If not, no problem. 🙂
@tinkrelectronic4 ай бұрын
Great question! It does not support the only dongle I have at the moment (tp link) however what people have been doing is using a USB powered access point to hook up via a LAN cable to wireless. (similar to this) www.tp-link.com/ca/home-networking/wifi-router/tl-wr802n/

Any time! I was hoping to find an older dongle to try. But I must have misplaced it so couldn't test. I'm pretty sure the scope uses a custom version of linux, so my guess is if there is any support for wifi, it's probably pretty limited.
@tinkrelectronic4 ай бұрын
I did also test the W725N * I think that's correct which was the siglent dongle usb wifi adapter and can confirm it does not work. So whichever flavor of linux it's running does not have drivers installed for it.

Another question if you don't mind. My friend just got the SDS804X and the fan is quite noisy. He was showing me and after an hour I had a bit of a headache. I was expecting it to be whisper quiet. What is yours like?
@tinkrelectronic4 ай бұрын
Good question, certainly not wisper quiet. I was surprised it was more quiet than my keysight dsox1102g. (all measured with my phone laying in front of the equipment) The keysight is 49db, the Siglent 44db and my korad power supply is at 46db.

This vs. Rigol DHO804 ? Which one is more valuable? Can it be hackable like Rigol ?
@tinkrelectronic2 ай бұрын
I was originally going to purchase the DHO804, until I did more research. I cannot speak for comparison in person, but the specs are Rigol DHO804 (hacked) 250ish MHZ 1.25 GSa/s 50 Mpts vs Siglent (upgraded via generated key) SDS804 200MHZ 2 GSa/s and 100 Mpts and yes it indeed can be upgraded to an 824X HD. Hope that helps! =) The price in Canada was around the same and in my opinion the Siglent is better value. But it's all dependant on your needs.

I can indeed confirm something like a logitech M187 ( www.amazon.ca/dp/B0093H4XG8?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title ) does in fact work. It is small but perfect for bench use and uses one AAA battery. Hope that helps!

@@tinkrelectronic Logitech M185 works also but I'm mostly using my main PC mouse now that it's connected to my network, loving that feature. For some reason, I can't get the password I set to stick.

Nice, thanks for sharing! For the web interface? I did try the password to see, the implementation isn't the greatest. Every time I switched sections it asked for a password. Clearing the browser cache might help. I do think it's something they could improve on. Or you speaking of VNC password? I have not tried that yet.
