Pure music to my ears! I used to fly from Lagos to Moscow on these amazing Tupolev 154 B-2 aircraft. The sound of those Kuznetsov NK8's at full thrust will haunt me to my dying days. Would you believe I came to this page for the sheer nostalgia of hearing those Kuznetsov's singing their song? Beautiful Aircraft, beautiful engines!!!

What an awesome sound ! I love the good old TU-154. One of the best planes for "old-school" aviation enthusiasts like me to fly with. I realy hope to get a ride one day but the chances to a getting very rare in Europe. :-(

That does indeed look like a maximum power take off. Notice how they held the TU-154 stationary till those Kuznetsovs had spooled up to maximum power, before letting her roll. Also, right at the end of the video, did anybody notice the slight throttle down? Another indication it was a full powered take off.

Yes, it is common practice takeoff with a full load, or if the runway is not enough long.

@NattieChristopher: No worries:) The NK-8 and the D-30 do share a common compressor unit from what I know, hence the similar sound to the D-30 when they spool up, although the D-30 has a more throaty engine whine;)

@NattieChristopher Some of them -haas :) lets say, PW JT8D from 737-200.. also really love its old whistl, lovely. From extturnal and from internal as well :) But anyway, SOlovievs d30s and Kuznetsov NKs are the best sounded ever!!
