I think in addition to dj, british also pronounces du as dA, for example in duchess (reference from cambridge)

Hi there! You are absolutely right, we pronounce D as D when it is before a short u sound (/ʌ/ or /ʊ/) e.g. duchess. We only pronounce D as the DJ sound before a long u sound (/u:/). That's why I mention it's only after the long u sound at minute 03.41 🙂. Hope that helps!

I've been living I London for 14 years and I still have my American accent, due the fact that back home we learn American English. Also, for me personally it's easier to pronounce some words in American than in British and vice versa. So, you can imagine when I speak, hehehehe. But I believe if you make an effort to pronounce words correctly and people can understand you, it is already a great step. God bless you, my dear.😊

Hehe, I think it's totally normal to have a bit of a mix due to all of the different varieties of English! I've noticed I also say some things in a more American way sometimes, with all the American series and films these days. My British accent videos are just a bit of fun, really, as lots of people ask me about the accent. But there's no pressure or need to have a particular accent, I totally agree with you that with pronunciation the most important thing is to be clear and to be understood! ☺ Thanks again for your thoughtful comments, they've made my day!

Thanks so much for your kind words, I appreciate your comment! The "long u" sound in all the words you mention (university, lose, two, true) is the same. It's represented by the symbol /u:/ in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA). I write it "oo" in my videos as I know a lot of people don't know the IPA. The only difference is that in university there is a "y" sound before the "long u". You can see this in the IPA for the words you've mentioned: true = /truː/ two = /tuː/ lose = /luːz/ university = /juːnɪˈvɜːsɪti/ . For me, as Italian, long u sound, ie /u:/, is a bit tricky because Italians, in their phonetic system, make the u sound as a very close and strong sound, especially in the southern Italy. Definitely, British long u sound is much milder than that Italian - as if it were between Italian u and Italian e. Thank You very much indeed.

Hi there! Thanks for your comment and question. We only get the "djoo" sound when there is a long "u" (or /uː/ in the International Phonetic Alphabet) after the "d". "Duplicate" has a long "u", so would sound like "djoo-pli-cate" (/ˈdjuːplɪkeɪt/). The other words wouldn't have the "djoo" sound, as they have a different vowel sound: a short /ʌ/ sound (the sound in "cut"). So they sound like "in-dul-gens" (/ɪnˈdʌldʒ(ə)ns/) and "du-chess" (/ˈdʌtʃɪs/). To hear their pronunciation, you can search for the words in Macmillan dictionary: www.macmillandictionary.com/dictionary/ Hope that helps!

Think in English can never happen. Any person will think in his mother tongue. First then later he will think in another language. Will think about anything in his mother tongue first. It really depends on how proficient you are in the language. After some point you make the switch and start to think in the language while speaking it. It's similar to code switching. Sometimes, I'd be watching a show in English and if something comes up then my immediate response is in English and then the realisation sets in and I carry forward the rest of the conversation in my native language. Having talked to other learners of the language, I know my experience isn't unique either.

Main apne ghar me kai baar koi angrezi show dekh raha hota hun aur agar koi achanak kuch puchta hai to mai angrezi me hi jawaab dena shuru kar deta hun phir Hindi me switch kar leta hun. Aisa bht logon ke saath hota hai. Kuch time baad aap translate karna band kar dete ho aur seedhe bolne lag jaate ho.
