So happy for the lychee tree happily bearing fruit! My dear mum was not able to make her lychee tree bear fruit, but we had the following fruits at our disposak from our very yard: pomelo, coconut, avocado, sugar apple, soursop, lanzones, jackfruit, star apple, santol, rambutan, guava, cashew apple, and many more. Wishing Tu all the best!

WOW, that is amazing, which area was that? I think lychee needs at least one night below 10c to be able to set fruit.

A great looking tropical fruit garden in a warm temperate zone, i suspect his plants are thriving because of his local microclimate ? And he may have not have crammed too much in which causes too much root competition sometimes ?

I plant tropical fruit trees in my backyard according to the orientation of the sun. Also, on one side of the property there is a huge deciduous tree that I planted many years ago which regulates the air temperature in the surrounding area. This creates a microclimate for my tropical plants. Most trees can be acclimatised, but still only to a certain level. Tropical plants love hot and humid weather, but unlike cities in northern states of Australia, Melbourne summer is hot and dry. In a 40+ degree day, the heat will burn the trees if they are exposed to too much sun. Therefore, having a big tree that gives some shades will definitely help. In winter, these trees need a lot of sun especially early in the morning after a cold night. My big tree will have already dropped all the leaves by the end of Autumn allowing the sun to shine through. Melbourne winter is also wet which can cause root rots. So, I planted ALL my trees in a raised garden bed. Every tree is different, one spot is good for the pomelo, but the very same spot is not suitable for a mango. So, I have been moving them around the yard, it’s just trial and error, I guess 😂 Another option is to grow them inside a greenhouse.

The lychee mainly has problems with their roots getting too hot. The tree itself can handle the sun, but until they get that nice dome shape to keep the roots cool, they struggle. They need a very thick layer of loose mulch until that happens.

Hi Mark, how are you doing ? Yes we used to talk on Viber, way before Covid started 😂 I also came to your house to look at your plants. The jackfruit plant in pot is the crispy type that I bought from Daley 8 years ago. It shot up to about 3m, but left it outside last winter, and top half died. The I don’t know the name of big jackfruit because a friend bought it for me from someone’s backyard.

@@sabisingh1045 yes mate, there were lots and I wanted to keep the video short so I couldn't mention because it is his private space. The main thing he told me with mangoes is to spray the flowers with fungicide in a wet flowering season to improve fruit set. With the jakfruit keep them raised and well drained and build an enclosure each winter until established. Do not put the lychee in %100 sun in Melbourne were a few that I can remember
