Long time viewer, great work as always. As a Dolphins fan, I have to say, I appreciate you not just jumping on the "time for retirement" train. I'm not saying he should or shouldn't, but at the end of the day, he's the only person that can decide that. It's easy for everyone on the outside to make decisions about his life and career. Also, I'm with you, looking at the short term issue... even if he comes back in say 8 weeks... no one is going to be comfortable with the situation. There aren't any timelines where everyone is going to say "ok, now we feel good about him taking a hit". The other problem is from a team investment perspective, it's tough to build an entire system around Tua with the knowledge that this is always going to be a risk if he does decide to keep playing. I think last season gave us all the impression that maybe the concussions were just a specific issue from the first one not being treated correctly, but otherwise he was good to go. This specific system isn't one where there's good alternatives for quarterbacks. Tua has limitations, but very few are able to throw with the accuracy and anticipation that Tua does, and the system is built around that. No easy answers.

Im a huge Tua critic. That said I care for him as a person and wish him best in his health and decision he makes about playing. I also think he played a pretty good game here other than the the pick 6. McD, CGrier, the receivers, amd the OLine did him no favors.
@rainman11Ай бұрын
Everyone will rip him for the picks (as they should) but I feel most were bad luck rather than him not being able to read the field and making poor decisions. The first pick literally hits his WR on the shoulder and pops up right to a defender. Second pick was a combo of both Tua throwing it high and Chosen slipping on his route. And then the last pick was definitely a terrible throw but I at least understood what Tua was trying do. He just lacked the arm strength to get it to the sidelines and it didn’t help the oline got dominated on that play as well.
@iec7587Ай бұрын
@@rainman11 He was bad, he usually is when Hill/Waddle arent WIDE open 1st- the ball hits the receiver in the back shoulder,. why? because his throws have no zip and take forever to get there. He also had the seam open 2nd-he has to throw it earlier than others because of lack of arm and he throws it to the predetermined spot 3rd-because he doesnt have the arm strength to throw it away
@rainman11Ай бұрын
@@iec7587 part of the reason why waddle and hill get so wide open at times and get a lot of YAC is because of Tua’s anticipation. Now you ain’t wrong in that Tua has to play with timing and anticipation to make up for his lack of arm strength on certain throws. However for the most part a lot of the play calls that gm were designed screens, sweeps, etc. and Tua having get the ball out super quick was really to mask how bad that oline was and to counter bills 2 high safeties look not wanting Miami’s pass gm to beat them deep. Again 1st pick had nothing to do with arm strength, ball hits the WR right in the shoulder you have to catch that period! To say the WR didn’t catch it because it lacked “zip” is ridiculous…If that’s Tyreek or Waddle that’s an easy completion. 2nd and 3rd picks I said Tua deserves blame and his lack of arm strength can hurt him especially like it did on that pick 6.

JT, I'm a big Dolphins fan. I'm not the biggest fan of Tua the qb, but he's a great guy and I obviously always root for him. My question is, it seem like he's always backing up and throwing off his back foot. I know the oline is a turnstile, but I don't see him step up in the pocket enough. Wondering if you think it's his size, or lack of trust in blocking?, and do you think his size and lack of arm strength limits some of the things we can do with play calling? I see alot of other qbs checking at the line, calling out protections and not using a wristband. I would think he's mastered the offense going into year 3. He seems to excel when defenses play man or blitz, but not so much when drop 6 or 7 into zone coverage and force him to go thru his progressions. I'm sure some of it is definitely oline related, but just curious on what you see. Love the show, and your takes. ✌️

@posmoo9790Ай бұрын
It's over bros. that was normal football contact. that contact happens dozens of times every single play. he can't play anymore.. the fact that it wasn't a hard hit is what makes this so frightening. If there is any positive to take from this it is if he had been hit really hard we wouldn't be aware of just how fragile he really is. people would be saying well you can avoid the really hard hits - get back out there and slide. this event makes it clear it's too dangerous. you can't expect the other team to be afraid to hit you because they could give damage you permanently. and any hit has the potential to injure him. -Dolphins fan

"Where's Hill and Waddle?" That was a recurring theme in the game. I'm fine if they are out of the game IF Achane is the play. I don't even care how you get him the ball. JUST GET HIM THE BALL! I've never seen him drop one and the dude makes plays... most of them go for 15 yards. Yes the phins use the crackback toss too much but even when Buffalo keys on it Achane usually finds a way to create 7-15 yards, Give him the ball up the middle and he's getting 3 MINIMUM and if you've spread Buffalo out with everyone doing their job he's breaking it to the house. Unfortunately, the o-line, tight ends or the fullback are always missing the one block he needs. KEEP RUNNING IT, HE'LL BREAK ONE! After looking at the replay, Tua didn't miss Waddle by much (He makes the catch but was just a hair past the sidelines). You were right about the drop back making the pass a very difficult one. Tua didn't hesitate at all, I just think Waddle is too fast for that type of play to work unless it's a curl or stop route. Thanks for putting this out. I'm sad for Tua and praying he makes a speedy recovery... not for the team but for his future as a man.
