Tub Liner Removal | Dmax X-Terrain 2021

Remove the tub liner from a 2021 D-Max X-Terrain 4wd to make room for ute slides. The ute slides I'm going to use are from Pod Trailer here in Melbourne, as they sit 10mm from the tub base and allow many fridge options to be installed in the slide, whilst allowing all the room behind the fridge to also be used with slide ease of access.

Great vid - Ive been looking for an image of how the drain looks after the liner is removed. Im looking at re-routing the drain like yours for the first few months before I decide on a new EGR Rolltrac and spray liner.

The thought of raptor coating the tub has crossed my mind a few times. I'm going to see how my slides go first, should negate anything touching the paint from then on.

Great vid mate. Wondering if you can explain tbe use if the clamps? The sail plane has double sided tape so do tou have to lift it and replace the tape?

@@TerenceMcGourty Oh... that was to hold it down because I had loosened its bolts to get the liner past those mounts.

Nice one, appreciate the upload. Any suggestions on how/where to setup additional anchor points? Two just doesn’t cut it for the terrain model.

Depends what you want to achieve. If you want a factory look, buy the ones on the rear of the tub and you could install them anywhere at the front, not front wall, but front sides are reinforced and the base, which allows you to add reinforcement underneath if needed, ie. bolt through and add a metal plate behind the anchor to bolt through that too. The easy way is aircraft track. You can lay that between the ridges and secure loads to your hearts content. Or lay it across the tray at the front and rear.

Great video. Can you just cut half of the base tubliner out and leave the rest . I just need a extra couple of mm to fit my fridge slider and fridge in so the roller cover can shut without hitting the fridge. Cheers

Sure you could. The only issue with cutting any of the liner, is that the liner stops doing its job and water and crap will get between the tub and liner more readily, causing issues. In all honesty, you're better off removing the entire thing, and if worried about the paint toughness, put raptor coat into the tub.

Did you see any other spots for tie down points at the front of the tub after you removed the liner? Such a pain there are only two!

You can install tie downs anywhere, just find a spot which you can drill through and then reinforce the other side, ie. use a plate on the other side of the bolts so the pull is not against a small area like a washer. Because I'm adding Pod Trailer ute slides, which are not compatible with this tub liner. This tub liner didn't even match the base pattern, in that it sat on top of the base notches, adding 20mm to the height. If you put 1 tonne in the XT tub, you would crush the liner as its not sitting across the metal floor and instead on the notches. You also lose 90mm of space at the front. Tub liners in general I don't find pleasing. Water sits between them causing rust. Water on the metal tub will dry by itself, but not with a tub liner. You have to trim the tub liner to fit things to the tub, ie. dust seal to seal the rear tailgate. Trimming tub liners is just nasty IMO. Defeats their purpose. Don't get me wrong, some tub liners are amazing, but not this one. I would honestly prefer a spray in tub liner if any were to be used, as atleast that is using the tub metal and not sitting above it, out from the sides of the tub, etc. The XT tub liner is garbage for any type of real world use. If you don't use the tub, then I don't see the point of owning the Dmax; buy an MUX instead.

Hey Levi, the base saved 20mm. The liner didn't follow the metal tub base, instead it sat on top of the existing base. I thought it would have sat into the existing base and the ribs would all match, but I was wrong. The tub liner ribs sit on top of the existing tub base ribs. For me, 20mm was massive for fitting the Pod Trailer slides which in total only sit 10mm to the base of the pull slide itself, allowing me to fit many fridge options under the roller cover. I'm going to fit an Engel 60lt fridge/freezer as a result of getting rid of the liner. If I left the liner, fitted tub slides, my options became more limited. That 20mm mattered for my use.

@@wai4wd thanks for the share and info mate, I'm yet to receive my XT was also challenged with limited options for a fridge, currently looking at the Brass Monkey 50L (455mm high) still debating if I should remove the tub liner or not

Hey mate I’ve got the BT-50 SP (basically a XT with a Mazda badge) and I’m only realising now how much of a waste of money it was. If I could go back I would buy a mid tier car and spend the rest on mods! There are so many things I want to delete from the car but that defeats the purpose of buying a higher tier model…

Yer, I really wanted the interior bits, which is why I got the XT. In all honesty, I wish it didn't come with a tub liner and roller cover.

Sure. You just have to remove the entire roller cover and its surrounding plastic work. Rip all that off and the liner will come out in one piece, as that is how it goes in. The liner first then the roller cover and shrouds.
