Steve, why couldn't you have just removed the paper to prevent it from catching fire? Or is it paper backing to insulation? Just curious, I will be doing this same job soon, and the pipes & valves are on an outside wall, so I am guessing there will be paper backed insulation in mine if anything at all, this is a 3 tenement house built in 1900? But I like your videos, and I have your number in case I run into a problem! Not far from you, 15 - 20 mins.

One of the worst bath/shower valves I've seen good job on install Steve. I had a older style Delta single handle shower valve that customer tried to take bonnet nut off and twisted valve that looked pretty bad this week.Lol.Thanks for the video.
@stevenlavimoniere10 жыл бұрын
on the delta i have found to put pressure on nut with a pipe wrench then tap with a hammer to free up nut or you will just twest off small 3/8 copper tubs that hold the delta valve together the tapping with a hammer help to vibrat the nut loose if not you have to change the whole valve in wall

i am not scared of soldering i have been doing it for over 30 years .if it was tight i could always put a piece if sheet metal between wood but i had plenty of space.if you notice i had my torch on low at times .not the beat for the tip but i can control the heat that way a acetelin b tank would have been better but there to flipping heavy .

Lol. I definitely know how to solder and pretty well in fact. Just like pex though, I think there are situations where propress really comes in handy. I can totally respect your thoughts on it though. As for symmons, I was just curious. Never installed one, just thought the trim kits seamed a little cheap. I'm a wolverine brass man myself. Really like your videos though, you do great work.

I'm only 7 minutes into this video and I am already laughing Steve. This is better than your "Toilet From Hell" video!!!! The drywall falls behind the tub. The stud wall looks like a bunch of ice cream bar sticks put together, obviously reworked in the past. That pretzel plumbing is funny. How the hell did someone do this to the plumbing? Trying to straighten it? It does not make sense. Are you sure you want to do this work? Edited at 8 minutes. A union on the shower head line? Most of the time (for 40 years) if I solder in tight places, I take a spray bottle of water and douse the areas behind the work. I do that until I am comfortable the stuff is beyond damp. My biggest fear is the heat of a torch travels up and will collect at the top of whatever enclosed cavity you are soldering in, unseen.

Nice job and great video! I'm getting up in age and I'm extra careful on stairs and in the shower now. You mentioned that was an outside wall. How can that work without freezing???
@stevenlavimoniere10 жыл бұрын
Nicholas CeeA it will be fine it there is insulation between the shower valve and out side wall don't forget the room is heated .so the wall is warm that is what stops the freezing is the heat in the room.but there is always a possablty of freezing if the heat goes out .i always try to put tub/shower valve on a inside wall ..this tub was already there and just a valve replacement.so it will have to do .the old guy was not about to change the tub to a left hand tub and redo the bathroom . .
