What I also find wonderful about this great musical ensemble is that none of them tries to stand out from the others. They are all united in the same faith in music. There is a complicity between them that is very rarely found in musical ensembles. it's probably because they were all street musicians before they formed this band.

Brass at my school in beginning band are pricks because they think they are better than each other and woodwinds and brass don't get along till 3rd year band when they are legit like a family of band people instead of woodwinds, brass and percussion. And people are divided for percussion, thinking drums ( only full drumset) is cool in brass and almost everything else as terrible. But, brass in beginning doesn't like snare or toms, or the big bass drum, not even cymbals. Only when they're on the full drumset. TL;DR brass and woodwinds are separate groups till 3rd year

This session was Tuba Skinny was at their finest ... relaxed, self-confident, tuned in to one another ... just superb ! I saw them later last year in Maine & the Hudson Valley, again this years when we brought them to Philadelphia; they are really unmatched ... their ensemble music bring out the best of these early New Orleans traditional jazz tunes. It is no wonder that these and other videos keep piling up the views and kudos ....

Boy, this is the `Nawlinz` my Grampa told us about. He grew up there in the early 1900s, and we heard many happy stories of his younger days. Tuba Skinny resonates his sentiment! They have really got it together, unlimited talent! I am addicted, I am hooked!!

Ensemble playing. It's really something different than the big bang trumpet solos. I loved the L. Armstrong version of this played with his all stars in the 50's but Shay & co. does it better: a band instead of an individual showcase.

As a clarinet player, I kind of dislike trumpet solos, because I never see clarinets being considered cool.. It kind of hurts on a personal level to the point that I started playing saxophone. Now I play saxophone in jazz band and and am happy with that. TL;DR hated trumpet solos and don't now because of this band giving everyone a moment in spotlight But still I love baby elephant walk band arrangement because it's literally a glorified clarinet solo

All the members of this group must have been raised in Nawlins and played since they were kids. It amazes how many pieces of music they play and know them all by memory. I love this group! Outstanding!

Bruce, I don't know about the rest of the band, but Shaye, cornet player and leader, was born and raised on the East Coast and her mother started teaching her piano at age 5. Her dad is Shane Cohn, jazz guitarist and her grandfather was Al Cohn, a famous jazz saxophonist who played and did arrangements for Woody Herman. Shaye was formally educated at NYU In classical piano and she has experience on many instruments. According to what I heard, she was in New Orleans just prior to Katrina and rode it out during the storm. She and some of her friends found her antique cornet in the rubble, fixed it up and started playing. She started playing with various street bands in New Orleans and it all grew from there,
