Another stellar tune from Tuba Skinny. I kept waiting for bubbles to come out the end of James Evans’ attachment on his clarinet.
And if you’re a fan of Tuba Skinny and enjoy watching their videos you can now help support them on Venmo. venmo.com/Tuba...
Recorded 5-13-19.

This is the best thing I've ever heard, especially the clarinet solo. Well, everybody actually. Great feel. I grew up playing ragtime, boogie-woogie and stride and also playing with Dixieland bands. I love this stuff, and I've never heard better! Your friend, Flint Long

And Jason looking so laid back through it all! He has really taken over a string anchorman position, always there and providing midfield infill which is so important because otherwise it sounds thin.

I have to agree. I think the band is poorer when he is absent.

There must be over dubs. just the way the banjo and wash board jump out of the mix when they solo. I wonder why Erica's vocal doesn't? Great stuff. Just about the best trad band ever!!

Super quality video. Many thanks, Randy. It has been a very long time since we last saw a video of James Evans playing with Tuba Skinny. They take 'Yaaka Hula Hickey Dula' at a cracking pace. Two years ago I wrote about this tune and its curious 25-bar Verse. In case anybody's interested: playing-traditional-jazz.blogspot.com/2017/02/post-476-yaaka-hula-hickey-dula.html

Pops Coffee so Ivan, you probably know this - what is that attachment on the end of James Evans’ clarinet?
@PopsCoffee
@PopsCoffee 5 жыл бұрын
@@RaoulDuke504RC I may be wrong, Randy, but I think the whole instrument in this form is called a tipped-bell clarinet, or saxonette. I believe they were fashionable in the 1910s. And Alphonse Picou used to play one. This is not the first time James has been seen playing such an instrument. Perhaps he is trying to revive it. Maybe it also enables the player to hear himself better.

Reading the differing comments on clarinet players, I am wondering whether James Evans is there as a dep, or whether Craig is no longer in the band. We can't draw that conclusion from one video; musicians get sick, have other commitments, etc, etc. As to their relevant merits, James is a wonderful and accomplished player, but maybe plays too much for the TubaSkinny style; for me Craig often makes me laugh out loud with the surprises he comes up with; a real original and a follower of Pee Wee Russell

Sonja Clark James Evans was just sitting in for the day. From what I understand Craig was out of town visiting some folks.
