Also that two cycle premix is great. No ethanol so it doesn’t gum your carburetor over the winter. If you don’t use it anyone with a two cycle would love it.

I've got one of those 900 watt lunchbox generators H.F. sells for $90, along with a few cans of premix and I'm hurricane ready in FL, and it all sits on one small shelf. Just need to power the 'fridge is all I have to do; the shelf life of unopened stuff is like 5- years? anyway I can give the outdated to my lawn service guys, they love it.

That Lucas stuff is the shiznit. Primarily supposed to be used in engines that get infrequent use, 4 stroke boat motors and such. They also make a fuel additive for old leaded engines that saves the valves.

Hi Mr Pete, That old guy that auctioned off all his treasures reminds me of an old uncle of mine. Only an 8th grade education but a mechanical genius. He worked in industry in WW2 . We all will go through what he did sooner or later. I can only imagine how many you have tutored over the decades , both in your career and now with an audience across the world. They did the math after many miles and were proven to be useful products. Stop scratching up those old beat up pliers lol.... Love your auction videos. I’m a tool junkie with a lower budget than you as are many of us so when folks call you out for your criticism of “junk tools” just remember that you occupy a higher rung of the tool hoarder’s ladder. I wasn’t going to say anything but a while back you dumped out a box that you got at an auction and there was a nice group (maybe 3or 4 ) Stanley vintage Sweetheart wood chisels (they had red plastic handles), my heart just sunk when you declared them junk or scrap. I have a set of them and they hold an edge like no other in my collection. Thanks for the vids.

I buy that premix trufuel. A can of that will buck a few downed trees off your fence and then run your weedeater for a goodly spell. It comes out to be the same price as a gallon of gas and a bottle of 2 stroke oil. either way youre just gonna dump out the extra on an ant hill anyways. premix seems less wasteful.

I like Milwaukee tools but hate those Milwaukee drills with the trigger that is as long as the grip. If the bit catches, you tend to try to hold on tight. That keeps the trigger on. I have tried to throw one onto railroad tracks with a train coming. You paid too much for it.
@BeachsideHank
@BeachsideHank 5 жыл бұрын
Exactly the problem, like if you're up on a ladder and things get dicey, you have to virtually toss it aside whereas a single- finger trigger is much safer in an emergency.

According to the Craftsman OEM List I downloaded from VintageMachinery.com, Model No. 315.XXXXXX denotes an OEM of either Ryobi or Ryan. Diehl is also listed for portable power tools (which this isn't), prior to Ryobi. My guess, due to the recent vintage, would be Ryan, however it is rumored that most bandsaws are made in the same factory in Taiwan. a quick Google search didn't turn up anything about Ryan as a tool manufacturer.

Correct about wishful thinking in a bottle for the most part. Canned pre mix gas is good for here in California where we have ethanol in the gas. Somebody else already mentioned that. Marvel Mystery oil is just single weight oil with the friction modifiers from ATF in it and a additive that makes it stick. Good for temporarily hiding problems but does not fix anything. Everything they claim it can do, really just means you need to rebuild the engine.

I think Danielson ended up under the Snap-on umbrella. I have two of the Milwaukee 3/8 drills, early 80's vintage, I believe. As of five years ago parts were readily available. I used Lucas oil stabilizer in my class 8 truck, and Howe's in my fuel (I guess I'm easily influenced). I've used Marvel Mystery Oil in air tools and as a light lubricating oil (my replacement for 3in1 since WD-40 took over that brand). I'm going to guess the gentleman had a drag racer, Durham's Rock Hard water putty was used to fill the water jacket on highly stressed drag racing engine blocks. Did the saw gavel under $200???!!!

Sir. I enjoy your videos because I like the contents and I had been watching one with a belt turning the chuck pulley and I smiled. Well back in the mid 70s I served my apprenticeship in a machine shop in NO.LA. In what used to be the courtyard of a home of a brewmaster for a beer brewery which I never did learn the name of it. Right next door to the machine shop was a moving And storage warehouse that is now the NO. D-DAY MUSEUM on Magazine St. The point is all of the machines were run off of two main drive shafts which in turn ran every machine in the shop and every time I wanted to run a lathe,mill,power saw,drill press or if I wanted to cut keys in a sprocket I had to engage a clutch by reaching up above grab a piece 1x4” running parallel to the lathe and move it to the left to engage and right to disengage the machine. On two problems first changing the speed by tripping the belt on the pulley with a piece of wood about 10 foot long with your feet and your knees with a little swing of your arms. But the biggest being an apprentice I had to crawl up in the rafters to oil the bearings on the motor and pulley and the fact that it was a blacksmith shop for about 100 years prior. Belts flapping all day long and with three years doing this I wouldn’t change a thing and I would do it again. Thank You Jake.

Well, seems like everyone had something to say about your most recent haul... and I guess I do too. I noticed a can of turtle wax and some simonize. I have a problem with rust on some of my less used tools like an old drill press and band saws. a couple of years ago, I did a little experiment on a cast Iron lathe bed. I started by warming with a propane torch just enough to evaporate the moisture in the metal then put on several types of oil and both of those two "waxes". They both did better than all of the oils. Any thoughts? Well at any rate, Thanks for all of your great info and for sharing your life story one bit of auction treasure at a time.

Yes, the Vacu-grip handle is Snap On. I used to be a dealer back in the 90's. It was not a good job for numerous reasons. Artisan, now that is difficult. I am not finding much info. Their ratchet and socket sets were S-K : alloy-artifacts.org/other-makers.html#artisan. I have seen reference to Gambles and Artisan axes but nothing comes up about the brand "Artisan" other than tool pictures and adjustable wrenched listed on Flea-bay. Give the Marvel Mystery Oil a fair trial. Try it on rusted items instead of WD-40. I keep a can around for general purpose oiling.

When you say you aren't going to any more auctions, I'm assuming you mean for the rest of that day..and I believe the rest of us assume that as well! That is a very nice saw and I believe that tire will mount back on the wheel with no problems. Nice haul. That WD-40 does make an excellent lubricant for machining aluminum and brass..does well with tapping those metals as well. My dad used to rub it into his sore elbow and claimed it helped..although it may have simply been the rubbing that did the trick.. :-) Marvels oil makes an excellent honing oil for oil stones..I've used it for years and I never have to clean my arkansas stones with kerosene like I used to when I used "honing" oil...I've never tried it for anything else. Thanks, Mr. Pete! :-)

@@jusb1066 well im british so didnt know about postage terms in the usa i know that in the uk if u have fuel u find a way to use it or have it properly disposed of and 2 stroke gas is still good for testing engines cos it doesnt hurt a 4 stroke to run for 5 seconds on it as long as its only a small amount im sure he could find someone local who will take it

Regarding cheap tools, if person ever tried the cheap option of buying tools and busted the back side their hands open they would understand why you and I pitch them. Just not worth it.

Mr. Pete, a good idea for all of us who are drowning in inferior tools that we'll never use is to price them really cheap and give them to the local community non-profit thrift store. I hate to see a crappy hammer priced a $3 but at $1 or even $.50 some poor person can drive a nail or pull one and the sale is pure profit to the charity. Another good deed to the poor folks is to put a bunch of cheap tools in a cheap box priced at $3 - $5. Life's really hard for some among us.

That is good advice. I have already given many boxes and buckets of tools to our local Habitat for Humanity store.

If you don't have one, a engine hoist would have been a lot better since there was a lifting eye already in place. Welded up an extension for mine so I could lift my IR 5HP, 80 gal. compressor off the U-Haul trailer. At our age broken bones take a long time to heal. I also used it to get my Bridgeport off the pallet after I moved it into the garage.

I have a bunch of bandsaws from 36" to 8" and I gave up on tires years back. All my machines have Scotch 88 or 33 electrical tape for tires and no more problems! One has duct tape and that works too but it tends to fray and get loose. These are commercial machines, not a garage shop. I have a 36" with a 1" blade and that runs on the cast wheels with just the teeth sticking out past the leading edge. All good. Note that sawmill bands usually run on iron wheels so this is no innovation.
