Please keep my piggy Monty in your thoughts today. He's had constant problems with his congestion (wheezing, hooting, some nasal drainage and crusty eyes) for months - he has seen a few other vets but it's been an ongoing problem so we think it must be something else. He's at an exotics specialist vet for a CT scan of his head, nose and lungs right now to find out what's wrong and treat him appropriately. This is my first time going to an exotics and the price did make my eyes water BUT they DEFINITELY know what they're doing - they have so much experience and ask you so many questions, making sure they understand the problem 100% before treating and always checking with the owner.

Zelsii , we had similar issues with our piggy peaches, he was on a high powered antibiotic for a couple weeks, then vet changed it to a different high powered antibiotic. It finally went away. But in the meantime we examined his food, bedding etc for possible causes. We stopped buying loose hay and got compressed hay discs from oxbow. The dust from loose hay seemed to aggravate his breathing. Now he's ALL organic food, snacks as veggies. He's all better now thank God but I was so afraid. Gunieas don't seem to have a strong immune system. The other thing we gave him Extra Vit C tablets and immune boosters I believe from oxbow too. We'll pray for your baby! 💞😇🙏

Thank you Rezzy for sharing your story. We've also tried changing those things but he carried on showing symptoms no matter what changes we made. The CT scan showed a potential abnormality in his nose which could be tissue, inflammation or infection. It also showed enlarged adrenal glands that could point to Cushing's Disease. Unfortunately Monty is still at the vet. He didn't recover well from his sedation and after taking him home and monitoring him he really didn't seem okay. He was very lethargic, miserable and uninterested in all his favourite food. He also had very, very smelly urine. I took him back and he had gut stasis, bloat and a UTI. The first two most likely caused by his decreased appetite from the stress of the scan / hospital as well as pain / discomfort from the UTI. The vets have him on all the appropriate medication and have said he is nibbling some food / moving around slightly but is still getting critical care. His gut stasis and bloat have improved because he's on medication and they're making sure his gut keeps moving so he is stable. The only troubling thing that remains is his UTI and making sure he recovers from that. He's been with them for 2 days now and I'm waiting to speak with the vet today about how he's getting along. I've had suggestions from people to just let him pass away because it sounds like he's but what he's struggling with can be cured and I just want him to come home and carry on being a happy piggy.
@srezzy13267 жыл бұрын
Zelsii oh my, you can't give up! We'll keep praying Monty makes a speedy recovery!
@countesscringe7 жыл бұрын
Good news! I spoke to the vet and Monty is doing very well. He is eating more, brighter and more alert as well. His symptoms have improved dramatically and the medication seems to be working. The vets are going to do an x-ray to rule out any bladder stones and then he should be clear to come home - but we're going to let him stay with the vet 1 more day before he comes home just to make sure he's ready. :)
@countesscringe7 жыл бұрын
Don't worry! Monty's x-ray is clear and he is improving. Vet says he's happy for him to go home but we've decided he's staying with them for 1 more day just to make sure. Hopefully he can come home tomorrow and be a happy boy. x

I have a question ... You have probably already mentioned this somewhere along the way but how often do you recommend giving our Lil piggies baths ?
@skinnypigs17 жыл бұрын
Short haired pigs just as needed, maybe once or twice a year for a full bath. Long haired pigs might need it every 2-3 months. I do bum baths if needed here or there too.

Is nt that cute!.Rarely guineas drink like that!I had maybe over the 40 years having, give and take , about 300 guineas. My dear wife sometimes placed the male with a herd of females and I had to impart to petstore weaned babies or to folk wanting a guinea. Once I had in a travelcage three and store could'nt take one,having it's toe stuck in the gauze, in transit. So I took it to the contributary of Jordan river and it went nuts and had to get it quick.It would be too vulnerable in nature by itself.When I took it back home ,it sat next to water bottle drinking all the time.We called it : 'Wawa' . If I was to tell how much the departed guineas over time meant to us,I be writing a small book. You had your darling Calvin,Willy,Wilma I had one guinea named Tiffy. He was so affectionate.Always wanted to be held.And we had once too many and too much mainenance and was doing some drywall job for a person living in an olivegrove.Could'nt pay attention toTiffy and it died suddenly,we thought of a broken heart. So I dug a grave in that olive grove/orchard.Law of the land does not allow any disturbance to olive trees.When I came back to place it's body a slightly deflated heartshaped helium balloon had landed on the site,saying:"I love you!"

I have had my boar for about 6 months now, ( we used to have 2 ) and he is so aggressive towards me! I’m scared to pick him up because he bites ALOT. My mom says I should give him to a good home because I don’t want a pet that hates me! Please help! Edit- he started rumblestruting and peeing on me. I’m starting to think it’s a dominance thing🤔
@skinnypigs17 жыл бұрын
What happened with your other boar? Biting is a sign of fear or pain. How is he housed?
@maddianderson4987 жыл бұрын
skinnypigs1 he is in a 3x4 c and c cage, and the current pig I have now was very aggressive with the other boar
@skinnypigs17 жыл бұрын
So where did the other boar go? You said you had 2? You gave him away?
@maddianderson4987 жыл бұрын
skinnypigs1 I got them from my parents friends who’s pig had babies. After about 2 weeks of the boars fighting we decided to give him to my friends who have a herd of 6 and he fit right in
@skinnypigs17 жыл бұрын
Sounds like guinea pigs might not be the right pet for you perhaps. They are prey animals and some are more scared than others. Biting is a sign of fear and is not that common in guinea pigs. I have a video on taming tips that you can try with him, patience and understanding is key when owning naturally nervous animals.

If you see that much of drinking regulary, the guinea possibly has diabetes. you can google diabetes in guineas to check out what to do.
