I just want to take a minute to thank you for the detailed videos you put out. Most content creators would skip threw the technical bits and time lapse for the sake of keeping peoples attention. But your technical stuff definitely keeps my attention! Thanks for not being like everybody else dude! :D

Fantastic! Engineering your own chassis adds at least 100% effort to the build project versus plans building!

I agree, really adds spirit to the build. And it's fun. ;-)

Good video. Thanks for putting it together. I know exactly how you feel with regards to being on an island with a build. I know no one doing a project similar to mine. And, there really isn't anyone covering it on KZbin either. Furthermore, none of my friends, associates, or acquaintances are even into cars (project builds). That's why I watch KZbin.

I hear ya man! I'm pretty sure without the internet or KZbin I wouldn't be building this thing! Hopefully these help you some and thanks for the comment!

Just a heads up for future projects. I own the EvoSaw380 and can't even begin to explain to you how much time that saw has saved me. It's made my builds so much more precise too. The blades aren't cheap but they will without a doubt get you through a few big projects and pay for themselves with the time and headache they save on builds like this. If you keep fabricating you won't regret having one of those saws.
@DougBugBuilder6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, looks interesting. I'll take your word for it. Looks like setting the mitering fence isn't to difficult. If I decide to get one I'll ask you for an Amazon link. Thanks for the tip.

Hey Doug, it’s looking good 👍 having an accurate base to build from like this will make the rest of the build a lot easier. Don’t stress about the videos mate , your content is always good and we enjoy coming along for the adventure. I know the struggle of doing big projects on your own it can be hard to lift your mood, some days it can get really gloomy. I appreciate your videos mate it keeps me on my toes and ready to attack another week. Cheers mate 🤘rock on brother 🤙

Thanks Craig, gets frustrating when making a video draws out and loses its mojo. lol. You're right, getting this base accurate will be a great start for the chassis. Thanks for the comment.

Doug Bug I can’t imagine the difficulty of filming and building at the same time, Mr’s Craig says that I can only do one thing at a time. Well I think that’s what she said, I was doing something at the time so was a little distracted

You need a fabrication / weld table , nice work.
@DougBugBuilder6 жыл бұрын
Yeah right! That would be awesome. I only have the one car stall in the garage to work out of. So I don't really have the space for a dedicated weld table. Maybe one day I'll find some space to put one. It would really help with some items. Thanks for the comment.

Dan, do you have the Bend Tech software? Or do you just want the literal dimensions for the base?
@danielcollier74386 жыл бұрын
Doug Bug I do not have the bend tech software. Should I make the investment?? Was wanting the dimensions of the base
@DougBugBuilder6 жыл бұрын
Well I can't advise on that or not. It's $300 for what you need. If you're doing a full chassis I think it would help. But that is up to you....;-) Email me and I can send you a screenshot with the dimensions of the base. dougbugbuilder@gmail.com

I have a buggy I want to build and I was looking at the chassis you are building, what is the thickness of the tubing you are using? My build is thought on light off roading and I will use vw parts for it. Hope you can help me
@DougBugBuilder4 ай бұрын
Most of my tubing is 1.5" OD .095" thickness, most of it is ERW, but where the engine is and suspension points is DOM.
@EnsVibes4 ай бұрын
@@DougBugBuilder awesome, thanks a lot. Id be using square tubing for the bed frame and the rest will be DOM on the lower side, I'll use 1 1/2" .125 mild steel for the roll cage

I definitely didn’t use software for anything but I could see it helping.
@DougBugBuilder6 жыл бұрын
My first time desinging one from software. I think the most helpful part was seeing it before building it. There already have been some things I changed after seeing how it looked in the software. Also haveing all the cut lengths and total build length needed and weight is kinda fun.
@Luka-ox4qk5 жыл бұрын
@@DougBugBuilder which software fid you use? If you can answer of course.

@thedirtheretic27286 жыл бұрын
Also, what are you using to remove mill scale off the steel. That stuff is mint.
@DougBugBuilder6 жыл бұрын
Dawn dishsoap and a stiff bristle brush. Depending on the metal they have sometimes it comes out pretty shiny, sometimes not so much.

Doug Bug I’m going to the store!!!
@tmsrsm5 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the video. One question, when you clean the steel with soap and water, doesn't it rust quicker?
@DougBugBuilder5 жыл бұрын
I think in most environments it would. But in Colorado here on a sunny summer day it all dries up before you can barely put the steel down. In a more humid environment I would most likely just wipe the steel with denatured alcohol, or maybe simple green.

what kind of welding machine you was working with ?

If im building a car from scratch what materials would i need for the chassis. Is hollow tube, hollow square. Can i buy the materials at homedepot, will it be cheap? Thanks in advance.
@DougBugBuilder5 жыл бұрын
My chassis is made out of 1 1/2" OD ERW tubing that is .095" wall thickness. You can't buy this at a hardware store. You need to find a local steel supply house in your area. If you use ERW or Electraweld tubing the total tubing cost will be about $1,000. Hope that helps.

Which material it's chassis made of
@DougBugBuilder4 жыл бұрын
1 1/2" x .095" DOM and ERW. The base is DOM, most of the tubes above that are ERW. And the material in the rear is more DOM. And the tubes under the engine and transaxle are 1 3/4" DOM.

Which material is best for chasis
@DougBugBuilder5 жыл бұрын
Chromoly tubing, but it's crazy expensive. Then DOM and then ERW.
@jcl12016 жыл бұрын
So will the new build have the bug body on it ?
@DougBugBuilder6 жыл бұрын
This chassis will not. I am worried that without the bug body it will look pretty dumb. But I figure I'll see what this one looks like, if I need to go back to the beginning and design a tube chassis that will have a bug body wrapped around it I will.

Google locost build table. This link has one in it down a bit - grassrootsmotorsports.com/forum/build-projects-and-project-cars/justins-garage-odyssey-fordduratec-based-full-bodi/60289/page1/ Guys use 2 pieces of mdf between steel studs which makes a crazy rigid table that is torsionally strong.

Why tube frame??
@DougBugBuilder6 жыл бұрын
Not sure I can give a specific reason. Really like the A Arm suspension, I think I see it as something that would make the buggy better on the trails. And mostly I like the challenge to see if I can make one, and how good I can make it. That's about it, in reality the chassis I have now is pretty good.

I know u said your printer isn't working but here's a video showing a trick we use to build our frames and make the cuts a bit more precise and it speeds up the process a bit. Idk if the program your using has this feature, but maybe it's something to look into. kzbin.info/www/bejne/lXOoapSbmrmoqa8
@DougBugBuilder6 жыл бұрын
I didn't know Solidworks would take the tubing that far with layout. Bend Tech will do a variation of that, it prints out just the ends with the miters so you can trace them. When I get to the round tube work I'll have my printer going. Thanks for the link though, good to see how other software does it.
