The circuits are the same in the 808 and 808 mini. Exactly the same, on every value of every resistance and capacitance. The TS9 has a slightly different final voltage divider configuration at the very tail end of the output buffer that raises the output by a fraction of a percent, and has absolutely no impact on the tone of the signal. There is FAR more difference in these pedals due to the tolerances of the individual components than there is between their designs. Most of the capacitors in the filters have tolerances of 10%. You might like one TS-808 mini and hate another one because the high pass filter in the clipping stage of the circuit of one pedal is 10% higher, and 10% lower in the other, but there's no way you can predict whether a TS-808 will sound better than a TS-9 or vice versa, because they might as well be the same product. Also, if they did a blind test I would bet money that they couldn't tell which was which.

@JustinHallPlus8 жыл бұрын
kc collette Good point. They all three use two BJTs each for the input and output buffers. Now it probably wouldn't degrade the signal much, but it's probably a bigger difference than the changed resistor values in the output buffers.
@rldays91798 жыл бұрын
In the end when you are up on stage and you got your Big sky or RV6 or DD7 or whatever the difference probably wouldn't show and if it did, the user would probably change their pedal slightly to suit what they like and to suit the venue. And then as your valves warm up it may change again....or if you are an outdoor venue or...or...or.. I just got a cheap TS9 and be done with it lol

I currently have a mini, and its really greet, but one of the best things is because it's small and narrow, you can get it nicely close to another overdrive, or distortion or clean boost like the spark boost. Then you can turn 2 pedals on and off at the same time, if necessary.

I'm 55 years old been playing since I'm 15. My first electric guitar experience around 1980 shortly thereafter a friend had a digital delay pedal then I remember a tube screamer coming in a Wawa pedal all of those with such exciting revelations in life. Then I got it Ibanez stereo chorus which I hooked up to two separate amps and I was the king of the high school scene. At least in my own mind LOL the tube screamer has such a great deep place in my heart specially because I'm a big Stevie Ray Vaughan fan but I love the ACDC type tones I've always able to count on Ibanez Tube Screamer like a solid friend. So thanks for paying such great tribute to my friend, our friend LOL

Hey Lee, you might not see this but I think better than setting up 150 different pedals for demos, set up a few different SMALL pedalboards with 5 different price points for 5 different types of pedals. In other words, get a small pedalboard with 5 overdrive pedals from cheapest to most expensive, then another small pedalboard with 5 different clean boosts, compressors, etc. I think it would get people to buy more pedals, personally. Buying pedals is always a weird thing in stores, at least here in the US, having to bug a salesman to go into the case and get a bunch of different pedals and set them all up for you to play, just feels like such a burden. Just a suggestion, from a customer of music stores!

I think the reason Rob enjoyed the Tubescreamers on a lower-tuned guitar is because a TS by nature cuts bass and bumps the upper mids up, giving those low strings a lot of definition and punch.

Potentiometers (Overdrive/Level/Gain) have a tolerance of +/-10% or sometimes +/-20%. So even though you have all your knobs set to 12 o'clock, they could sound "10%" different. If you want to take things to the extreme and assume that you have one stomp box with pots that are all -20%, and the one next to it has pots sitting at +20% of the given value, the pedals can sound "40%" different. There are a bunch of other factors (capacitor and resistor tolerance) that can affect it as well. I don't want to rustle everyone's jimmies. Just pointing out some electronics facts.
@orlock209 жыл бұрын
soad11dude That is true and the problem is much worse with fuzz pedals because they already sit on a fine line between usable and junk. With a distortion pedal, you try a dozen different pedals. With a fuzz pedal, you may have to try 12 different pedals that are the same model.
@soad11dude9 жыл бұрын
True! Fuzz pedals are usually a very simple design and don't need to be off by much to completely miss the mark and sound like ass. I'm happy I got an educated answer instead of somebody saying I'm wrong and writing an angry comment in CAPS!!!! Cheers.

@tonepoet8 жыл бұрын
You are absolutely correct. Only corksniffers really dissect this all to a point where it's beyond ridiculous. You audience doesn't know (or care) about the nuances that guitarists obsess over. And within a band setting..........very negligible. There are so many pedals that are variations on the Tube Screamers that really, what's the point? Sorry to rant, but you're correct.
@JarodGallantOfficial8 жыл бұрын
There comes a point when its not about the crowd. 50% of the crowd couldn't tell a 59 les paul from a guitar from toys r us. It also depends on every players individual ear. Anyone can tell the difference between an awful and a great tone, but it takes a well trained ear to hear whats great and whats better.Its also much harder to hear differences through a youtube video. The band point is good because it would be quite a bit more negligible in a live mix, except for the guitar player, who will play better if they think their tone is better.
@tds21173 жыл бұрын
There’s zero difference between TS models. The real difference is the potentiometers used, because of the difference in resistance. This would apply to two different TS9s even. Two made in the same week by the same factory could sound fairly different from one another. It’s a very inconsistent build. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aZSYcqVjnsaKiKc

It's cheaper to buy a TS-9 from America even with the shipping costs, you'll save £30/£40 altogether. Andertons will rip you off. I'm in the UK and had mine sent from New York because the prices are extortionate over here. Only had to wait a week and didn't feel like I was being robbed.
@monabri65008 жыл бұрын
+ouncy It's not just pedals - its's amps and guitars - in fact - everything with 6 or more strings and related items. Look st the price of a Fender Deluxe - that's why the UK is known as Treasure Island. Oh - I bought a Bassbreaker 007 amp from Andertons for £201 and - one week later - it was £43 more - explanations other than GG and PMT were selling at this price!
@ouncy8 жыл бұрын
monabri Yeah man, recently bought a new strat, Andertons were selling it for £680, after a quick look over websites that aren't usually listed on google shopping, I managed to get it for £528 from a different shop. Free shipping still. Saved £150. Pretty bad to be honest.
@Yohahn8 жыл бұрын
It's mostly due to taxes. When you compare the prices of andertons to chains in countries with almost the same taxes as the UK andertons are usually cheaper. If i compare the 5150 LBX here in Sweden, On Andertons and on Thomann the prices of Thomann and Andertons are cheaper then the swedish price. The price between Andertons and Thomann... Andertons(£430) and Thomann (€566) in swedish kronor £430 is 5160kr and €566 is 5250kr the only price i could find in Sweden is 5500kr. The price i find in america is $699 and that is 5820kr...

Compare the 808 and the mini with the same settings, please. I think the different knob orientation threw them a bit with those two.

Im sure a good portion of us like the commentary. Whos right or wrong here. Sounds like your having an off day. Which would explain your barashness. Thiscis one video out of many they have. Im thankful they put it out at all. I usually dont complain when someone gives me something for free. Thanks
