Not sure why everyone refers to this as a diving watch first. I see it more as a chronograph that happens to have 200 meter water resistance. A great combination in my opinion.

One thing, the smooth start with no stutter of the chronograph seconds hand is due to the vertical clutch, not the column wheel, and it's a significant feature to the movement. The fact that this is both column wheel and vertical clutch as opposed to just column wheel is what drives the quality and value proposition way up for this piece. Puts it squarely above the standard Speedmaster line.Nice watch. Would be all over this if it were 1mm smaller and 1mm thinner and had a display case back. But the general Black Bay design is chunky, and Rolex/Tudor are just not into display backs especially on a dive series. Thanks for the nice review.

While there seem to be many who may oppose this watch because there is a feeling of a melting pot of styles that shouldn't mix I think purely on aesthetics it's awesome. Vintage seems to be the trend for many enthusiasts and a trend that's growing. Many folks also disagree with homages. It personally doesn't bother me but it seems like Tudor has decided to do a homage of their own with cues from some older models and not just their own Black Bay. I wish it could be a bit thinner but I think the most unique feature is that main crown and how thin that is.

Thanks for showing and appreciating this watch. I've seen a lot of confusion and consternation in several blogs regarding Tudor's synthesis of diving and auto racing design elements in this watch. Personally, I think it looks great. Then again, I'm a total Tudor fanboy (I own three!). Is this the first Tudor you've reviewed on the channel?

The painted bezel just looks like a place for the numbers to wear off. Great movement used . Very retro ,new looking like old. Nice review. Always wondered why Rolex/Tudor don't just use AR on inside of the crystal .

I agree I like the vintage look of this watch. But all things being equal, I would rather have the Heritage Black Bay Black (not the Dark). very nice watch , its amazing what job both Rolex and Tudor have done taking their watch up-market . I found one of my old car magazines ( Road & Track )and leafing through it there was an add for A Tudor watch cost $145 .00 US dollars , it was 1978 . An old Timex of the time still in the box was $45.00 . Found both looking through old boxes . A smart company will always survive ,even in these days when mechanical watches are as useful as a fifth leg o n a race horse ! Rolex & Tudor went from telling time to telling others how rich you are but Timex just kept telling time .That goes for all the upscale watches .

What do you think will happen to the value of this watch over time? Where do you think it’ll bottom out at? I love the idea that all the controversy about this watch will eventually make it appreciate similar to how the original Daytona (although obviously not to the same degree).

Tudor should hollow out the snowflake so you can atleast see the sub dials as the hour hand goes through the hours of 8-9, 2-4 besides that it would make it their own version of a Mercedes style hands that we all know Rolex is famous for. Nice watch/review.

its a common misconception that a column wheel means no stutter. in fact, the column wheel gives you the crisp actuation feedback, whereas the vertical clutch, with no play when it engages the wheel, is what gives you the smooth, stutterless movement

The snowflake hour hand has always struck me as incongruous, disruptive and visually jarring. Your presentation was A1 for content, in addition to the high quality audio. (Clear, without a trace of echo)

When it comes time to service it have the watchmaker put the submariner Mercedes style hands instead of the snowflake.

To quote The Urban Gentry the Tudor is a "Slow-release charmer". I thought the same about the snowflake hour hand but over time I've really come to like Tudors a lot despite the signature hour hand. I see it now as a trademark of the brand and don't mind it at all.

Nice watch, good review. Just one thing bugs me. People wearing a watch on the top of their hand rather than the wrist. You can never get a proper size visual when people wear watches wrong.

Agree wear it behind the wrist bone, people who say it doesn't matter try dropping to the ground and doing a push up, once you get the watch out of the back of your hand then you will wear it correctly.

Unlike you I haven't seen the Tudor BB chronograph in the metal, but I find it a mix of styles and messages. Snowflake hands on a chronograph? Tacky bezel, rather than a count down timer on a dive watch? A helpful date that just looks out of place to my eyes? 2 registers, rather than 3, so the Watch times put at 45min? Is this an amalgam with Tudor milking the BB success? I think so. I prefer their Tudor Heritage chronographs line, as I think they have a clearer identity. I'll be seeing this BB Chronograph for myself in a couple of weeks at a Watch invitation event I'm attending, so I'll let you know if I change my opinion. Whatever of my quibbles over this watch, as always I enjoy your reviews. Thanks.

I like the overall look of it but some of the decisions just don’t make much sense to me personally. Either way, I’m sure it’s a great watch. I would think that the snowflake hand would obscure the subdials for a total of 8 hours of each day and that might get annoying if you ever actually use your chronograph. I guess if the subdials are basically just decoration for you, it probably doesn’t matter too much.

You need to get a circular polarization filter, they look like a filter at first but they have a rotating bezel to tune it.

I really don't like the dial design. I have a gen 1 red BB and that for me is a design classic, this dial just looks confused and lost as Tudor try and milk the BB line. No doubting the movement is a good one and the case looks good but for me I am really not fussed at all.

I really like the watch, but I have some serious concerns with it that are holding me back from buying it. 1.) Size. It's a thicker than 14mm and it's over 40mm in diameter. 2.) steel bezels do not age well - very prone to scratching. (Ex: Look at older Rolex Explorer IIs that have been frequently worn) I wish the bezel was ceramic.

I actually like the fact that the chrono pushers are different than the crown. Then snowflake hand seems incongruent with reading a chronograph, but then so is a dive watch chrono. Do you think they will add different colours for this model?? That would make it more interesting for me. Sunburst blue for example...

Different dial colors, I wouldn't count on it. Black Bays all have this standard matte black dial. The different color versions of Black Bay differ mainly in bezel color... With thus having a steel tachy bezel, it makes me seriously question if there will be any different versions of this watch in the BB collection at all.

I just got a steel bezel black dial Daytona this Tudor looks much like it. I do like the date function on the Tudor. I had the Tudor Bronze, and I thought it would hold value. It did not. I could not even get half what I paid. Tudor is not as strong on resale as Rolex. The buyer said most people just don't know what is Tudor and its connection with Rolex.

I like it, but wouldn't buy it. I think the 45m timer does look nice. Though i have personally never really used that chronograph feature extensively to explain why 45m is bad compared to 60m. I wpuld also say I wouldn't want the snowflake hand on a watch with 2 sub dials. Other than that great review as always

One thing that bothers me is the lug width. Looking at the watch, I can help but think it would have looked better with 20mm lug width... That bracelet looks and feels to wide for the aesthetic of the watch. Maybe it's just me.

Great video as usual! personally I dont like the partnership...then again Im not a B01 fan..I dont think the design "feels" like a Tudor either...Tudor made a great step forward in releasing their inhouse movement..and now took a step back imho The hour hand..the lumed round hour markers..the date window placement...just not feeling the aesthetics for a chrono in general either.. case and pushers are nice (steel bezel daytonaish) ...rest looks out of place

Sorry, I just don't get it. A snowflake hand that obscures half a sub dial, a sub dial with a 45 minute scale - which is completely counter intuitive, coin edge machining on the crown and pushers that doesn't match.. I don't believe that it is a timeless design, in my opinion this watch is a mistake by Tudor and will eventually be regarded as something of a blind alley in terms of design.

Agreed! Snowflake hands look awesome on the Pelagos but here... I was just thinking the same. Some hands more like baton hands would be better. More like a Speedmaster basically. I don't care for the red text much and the square date window should be round IMHO. But having said all that.... the rest of the watch is really sexy to me.

As a graphic designer who spends most of his time working closely with typography, I cannot overlook the lazy and amateurish setting of the numbers on the bezel. They set them in tabular spacing, and didn't optically adjust the spacing. Thus you have large spaces between each 1 and the next number. Also the numbers in the date window look terrible, as if they have been distorted to take up less space instead of using a correctly drawn condensed font. The 6 looks to be higher than the 1. I've seen the same problem on the North Flag, too. They really need to do better than this!

Possibly, that might work. My main gripe is the horribly distorted numbers in that date window. A novice error. Any designer would use a properly drawn condensed font. (Why the rectangular date window anyway - square would have been fine.) Also, I think white numbers on black would look better than this. The date window jumps out far too much on this watch with its bright white. The hierarchy is all wrong to my eyes. And why the space before but not after the colon...? This watch is a complete mess...

Steven Fernandez I like the fact that it's rated the same as a dive watch, but that doesn't make it a dive watch. There's no unidirectional bezel or anything that looks like a dive watch. So basically it's a chronograph that you don't have to worry about getting wet.

I have the Black Bay Burgundy and it's not an exposed o-ring, just a trim ring that matches the bezel color. I'd guess it's the same on this chrono.
