Fascinating. I just finished Fatal Throne: The Six Wives of Henry VIII tell all and have recently become obsessed with Kat Howard. I’m also reeeeeeeally curious about Sir Francis Bryan aka The Vicar of Hell. I’d love to know how much of his legacy is fact and how much fiction. Awesome channel!

Stefan Filipovits there is only one book I know of about him and it’s maybe 100 pages long. Did you know he was cousins with the Seymours?

Lindlelover Watterson I mean Anne Boleyn had a sister. I am also distantly related to her nephew through a mistress but like, so is a lot of other people. It’s been 50- 100 generations now.

I think it's uncharitable to call her "reckless and immature". She was basically a child who had a neglected upbringing. And, yes, she was abused. Adult men were kissing her when she was thirteen. The power dynamic between men and women did not allow her to say no without protecting fathers or brothers to stand by her

Taryn Tyler do you know what the standard age of marriage was for girls of that time? She wasn’t a child!at 13. She could have married at 12 and consummated at 14. She was most definitely immature and reckless, her own actions prove my statement. Rose tinted glasses do not tell the real story of history. Have you read Gareth Russell’s book on her?

@@TudorsDynasty Tudor era or not, Gareth Russell of course points out that she's almost certainly quite a bit older than this abused-child narrative claims, & her boyfriends were at most few years older than her, but people blithely state "she was abused by men in their 30s when she was 12". As to consent, this narrative holds that it's irrelevant because of her age- if she had sex before 18, she's incapable of consent so it's abuse by definition.

Anne died in 1536, Kathryn died in 1542. It is very unlikely they met.

Lindlelover Watterson that’s a good point and Anne was so preoccupied with her place at court that I doubt she made time to check in with her relatives or at least her mother who could have told her “guess what, Anne. Your aunt just had another baby. Why don’t you send a nice card and a baby gift.”

@@lindleloverwatterson3484 Catherine was most likely born c. 1522-1523, before Henry was even courting Anne. I dunno if Anne & Catherine met, but looking at contemporary sources would be the way to find out, not using our 21st-century logic- I think you have to know a lot about the era to theorise about it, & I certainly don't!

Wasn't it standard for a queen to give household positions to her family & friends? Or are there reasons to assume it was a kind of blackmail by those who knew of Catherine's past?

I think the uncle and step gran probably sent alot of the young adults to the Palace for employment after an education.
