After many years of using Leica kit I moved to a Trimble s5 2 years ago and it still never fails to impress me with how quick it finds and holds the target. I don't get a lot of use from the gps search, as most of my work is on city centre building projects with poor views of the sky. I tend to rely more on mt1000 active target. When I do get realeased into an rural open site (happens every so often!) then the gps comes into its own when you are a few hundred meters from the gun and passing behind obstruction like small outbuildings and bushy ground cover. Would I go back to Leica? No thanks, although this means I don't have excuse to pack up when it starts raining!

Thank you for sharing your knowledge, I came over from SUE to Survey so I am a greenhorn and I know it’s real basic but I’m having real difficulty on getting the legs positioned so that the set up is balanced w/the bubble , Maybe a good technique you have ? Thank you

I worked with Trimble little bit only but it always bothered me that it lacked Power Search which Leica units had..... but this is actually pretty good, I wouldnt miss Power Search using GPS search

adamLE05401 I think it works better. Put an R10 on top of the rod and you would be amazed at how well the search works in the woods.

@@SurveyingWithRobert I work in mostly Leica using company at the moment but we'll see what future brings. If I was about to do own business than would go for Trimble probably ;) Thanks for the tip anyway and good work with your videos. I wish there were more surveyors youtubers like you !

I’m still having issues. It is not working correctly. I am running a Trimble S3 robot with a Trimble TSC three data collector one target control of page 2 my GPS searches on. It also says select data source do you use Trimble GNSS or auxiliary? No target

Robert, thanks for the video's you've been a life saver. Anyway, all of my settings look correct and im in Virginia North coordinate system and the GPS search wont find my data collector. Some days it does, some it doesn't. Was wondering if thats a common issue? I have my collector, a TSC5, set-up to auto connect and and auto enable and it says "GPS search enabled" but the icon/symbol never appears and never finds my collector. Thanks and i hope that wasn't to hard to understand. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks brother.

do you have problem connecting your tsc7 to your S5 robotic instrument.... i have problems where it wont connect sometimes i have to reboot trimble access and turn the instruments on and off a couple of times and it will connect eventually... but it always fails when i really need it ... i go to the radio setting and everything matches but it says port unavailable when it doesn’t connect.... if you can help please let me know thanks in advance.....

I have the same problem with my tsc7 running survey pro connecting to s5. It is the collector. No one has been able to fix it for me. Constantly rebooting.

Also if the gps is in a position (like urban center )that is not 'fixed' s5 will search automatically to find the prism (withought using the joystick)?

I think you are talking about auto search. It can be annoying. I prefer to set one of my app buttons with search and use that when I need to search.

Hi Robert. Is it possible to do a stake out with a not active mirror prism using S 6 survey station? Will it follow not active prism I mean.

it will follow a passive or standard prism like a canister -30mm prism from SECO

Robert was this GPS search being performed by the internal TSC7 GPS, or did you have a unit above you prism?

Elijah Voigt, no sir. This is using the GPS built into the TSC7. This also works the same way with a TSC3. Both have a GPS unit onboard.

You should get around 1500 feet. In the woods around 600 feet.

He is talking about integrated surveying. That is more accurate. Your GPS in your collector is less accurate. With integrated it will snap and find you. With your built in GPS it will search for you.
