Dear Laurent, Im electronic engineer, so Ill help you to better understand some informations Asus write about the components. About lifetime: its not about chokes, but about electrolytic capacitors. Biggest problem of all electrolytics is lifetime bedause in depend of technology and especially manufactoring technology the electrolytic fluid inside the devices dry out (and smells hororrble too!!!). Normal lifetime of cheap "generic" parts is even about 2000 working hours in depend of ambient temperatures, continious voltege etc. More expensive parts have greater lifetime as well- its because more complex fabrication process. In Automotive and Military standards you will quickly find the information about the data of qualified capacitors as well, so, its a piece of marketing from Asus, for sure, but the parts are really more stable compared to just "generic" parts usen in cheap and mid-range Boards as well. About Chokes: its no any lifetime here, but higher peak-current possible here to better handle the peak-loads and keep the even capacitors easy to work- its nice. About surge protection on all connectors: everyone MUST have it, even chiepiest ones. In this board Asus marketing talks about "extremlx nice designed protection"- yeah, well, its nice, thx for it, but its more marketing. Its really better designed as "generic" protection, ok, but all users and customers from Asus just wait exactly "better designed products", so, never mind, marketing guys..;-) Hope my small info helps. Best regards from Germany, Sebastian

Absolutely does. .. thanks for taking the time to go in such details. Talking of 10,000 / 5000 hour life span i absolutely meant capacitors and not chokes.. so sorry if i did otherwise. Yes, i no capcitors are usually graded for 2000 hours life span... but going from 10000 hour to 5000 makes little sense when Asus advertises an absolutely invincble motherboard. But.. again i absolutely appreciate the input... its really nice to have someone as knowledgeable as you to correct me / contribute to the channel. Please go ahead anytime u feel like it. Im pinning this comment for future reference.

i dont own this board but its one of the only budget z390 boards that does have multiple 3.1 plugs for front panel highly needed as i rarely use the back ones unless its for special things. my concern is around using a 9700k with this board and the vrm's i will not be over clocking and i will be using a haf xb evo case with all the fans i can possibly fit into it. except for the 200mm top fan but will be using a d15 cpu cooler in dual fan mode. so lots of air flow inside. also not that its a big deal but i thought it had rgb headers not sure the difference between addressable or not etc. someone please fill me in on this as online it says "A well-tuned system deserves a matching aesthetic. ASUS Aura offers full RGB lighting control with a variety of functional presets for the built-in RGB LEDs as well as strips connected to the onboard RGB headers. And it can all be synced with an ever-growing portfolio of Aura-capable hardware.". as for usb type c i dont use. same with gen type 2 etc dont use. i dont use sli, i use wifi for when i bring the pc to my buddys house and he only has one ethernet cable for his own pc so i need wifi i hate adding extra pci adapters etc. i use bluetooth audio devices as well as bluetooth gaming controllers such as xbox controller for racing. im ok with one m.2 slots just will be using it for os system

Addressable RGB let u control every LED on a RGB strip individually. A normal or classic RGB connector only customize the entire strip and all the LED on that strip receive the same color or effect. Nice comment btw :)

Hi Laurent.. Thnx for the review. So what is your suggestion in terms of motherboaed at this price level as tuf boards did ? Since I am building new pc, this was my favorite motherboard (firstly will be used with i5 9600k than planning to upgrade with i9-9900k), after your review I have some doubts.. You mentioned MSI z390 ACE in comments below however its 100 box higher than the TUF. We all know to go for expensive one but the goal is here finding the efficient one in terms of price/performance reality.. So I really would like to hear your idea at this price point if you may, does pro gaming model work properly with i9 9k series rather than the plus gaming ? thnx in advance..

Yeah $170 I was iffy on that too but if you guys have a microcenter near you they’re taking $30 off this motherboard (along with a lot of others). It was actually priced at $164.99 (before tax) but I ended up getting it for $134.99 so I do think that was a good bang for your buck I know very very little about computers as this is my first build but it seemed like a good pickup from what I read and how much it ended up being on sale for I did read mixed reviews about the WiFi so I’m kinda worried about that. If anyone has used this MoBo, how is the WiFi for you guys? Oh and P.S. Bluetooth can work with airpods ;)

@@Laurentschoice I was going to buy it (currently for $ 147), but mainly because of the appearance, namely the yellow elements (yes, yes - I am a freak;), but the aesthetics are also very important to me). I have a TT Core P5 computer casing, so in order not to cover these yellow elements too much (including the motherboard model designation) I wanted to connect the graphics card to the second PCI-E x16 slot. Unfortunately, the ASUS specification states: 1 x PCIe_1 3.0 / 2.0 x16 (x16 or x8 + x4 + x4) 1 x PCIe_2 3.0 / 2.0 x16 (max at x4 mode) So I can put such ASUS RTX 2060 ROG STRIX into PCIe_2, but it will work slower than in PCIe_1, even though it is the only card in the configuration? Perhaps, however, it will work just as quickly when it will be the only one? In the TUF Z390-PRO GAMING model, they already describe slots like this: 2 x PCIe 3.0 / 2.0 x16 (x16, x8 / x8, x8 / x4 + x4 *, x8 + x4 + x4 / x0 **) 1 x PCIe 3.0 / 2.0 x16 (max at x2 mode) ... but this motherboard is visually less interesting for me ... and more expensive ($ 199). Please HELP! BTW Cool canvas channel, interestingly discussed details. Thumbs UP, SUBSCRIPTION AND NOTIFICATIONS ON :) Currently I have 2 older motherboards from the TUF series: ASUS GRYPHON Z87 and I can not say a bad word. However, based on what you say, I conclude that it is getting worse with ASUS standards in the TUF series. The new TUF GAMING X570-PLUS motherboard is also not sensational.

I bought one of these boards and have a concern about the configuration of the SATA and M.2 slots. The board comes with 6 SATA ports but shares those with the M.2 slots. So if you populate both M.2 slots you lose 3 SATA ports and are left with only three usable SATA ports. I also have a problem installing M.2's and running a GTX1070 in the 1st 16x PCIe slot. I think that a better design would be to not share the resources so much between M.2's, PCIe and SATA. Other than that it is a great performing board. I just wish there was a little more honesty about the features. 6 SATA ports sounds good until you want to use M.2's and find out if you do you lose SATA ports.. I do not know if this is typical on other boards but I found this one to be extremely limiting. Also the second PCIex16 slot is only x4 if you don't put anything in PCIex1 slots 3 and 4. So that's it. I have 3 unusable SATA ports and 2 unusable PCIex1 slots. Too much of a trade off and a little misleading in the specs. The graphics card problem might have to do with the CPU (i7-9700k) but I can't find anyone else having this problem

Hi Laurent, Thank you for this review. What can I say? I was very much looking forward to the TUF review. I think in my previous comments/correspondence with you about this I had a miscommunication as I fully thought this review was going to be about a different beast - the TUF X299 Mark 1 board. That's the board I am looking at buying early next year with one of the refreshed Skylake CPUs. Anyway, I was very interested to watch this review as it went along. Like you, my heart sank a bit when you described some of the quite surprising shortcomings and omissions that, quite frankly, are unacceptable in such a board. Dropping the 10,000 hours down to 5,000 hours is lunacy in a board like this. 2 USBs on the back panel is unforgivable and probably unworkable for many users. No USB C is mind boggling! I could not believe it. I rushed to confirm that the X299 still has all these things done properly and, at least based on the ASUS web site, it does. I could never consider this TUF 390 board. It beggars belief ASUS could produce such an under-specified thing when they are shooting for the TUF and '"military" reputation. Incidentally Laurent, I could stand corrected, but I doubt this Z390 TUF board has the 5-year warranty. My understanding is that the 5 year warranty is reserved ONLY for the TUF X299 boards, being the Mark 1 and Mark 2. I looked everywhere on the TUF Z390 website pages and no mention whatsoever of 'any' warranty. It is, however, mentioned large on the X299 TUF page in its own little section and prominently displayed. I recall a year or so ago reading a few comments on different forums where ASUS was denying cover after the 2nd or 3rd(?) year when the owners thought they had the 5 year warranty on the TUF Gaming. ASUS stated that the 'GAMING' TUF was a different warranty to the X299 TUF models (which are not 'gaming' boards). Things may have changed and I feel with the truncated feature set on this Z390 board a 5 year is the least they could do to compensate. Oh well, what can you do? So Laurent, I think now is the absolute perfect time to do a full review on the TUF X299 Mark 1 board and investigate exactly how it compares to this Z390 imposter. I love the way you tear things apart in the descriptions and leave no stone unturned and I love the way that you are fair but still say if something is not up to standard if that's the right call to make. Thank you again and keep up the great work, it is much appreciated. Would love to see that X299 board reviewed!

But thats were im lost. Manufacturers dropped PS2 for 10 years... and boom.. now its back....

I think this is because of compatibility issue with USB3.1 but still pretty random on a gaming board.
@icy10075 жыл бұрын
@@dymsza- Yeah, it is because they don't have any USB 2.0 ports on the rear I/O anymore. USB 3.0/1 requires drivers.

I wish I watched this review before I bout this board. This is the worst motherboard I have ever bought. I have had nothing but problems with the USB ports and sound issues. Their customer support team has escalated 3 of my issues to level 2 and they haven't called back. In the end I was told to update the BIOS and that made the M2 drive not recolonized as a boot device. I had to take it to a shop to get it fixed and when I got it back my windows 10 was not long recognized as a activated copy. I will never buy any Asus product again.
