Seeing Kuya Doug as the fall guy back then in this video amazes me. Seeing him now in his own videos amazes me even more! I'm learning a lot here at home from your KZbin channel Tuhon Bill McGrath now that we don't have PTK sessions until June. I may not be one of your students physically but thanks to the internet I'm learning from the experts. I really appreciate your videos as well as Kuya Doug's.

Try to think of these techniques as modular units broken down into: 1. avoiding the attack, 2. delivering a strike, 3. applying a control technique. The control portion may be a lock, disarm or take down, or it may be controlling the distance. If you have a weapon, then creating some distance and drawing your weapon may be your best choice. Always leave yourself an escape route if a control technique fails. Regards, Tuhon Bill McGrath

i see what your saying but i think its still alot of thinking when being attacked when you could catch the knife hand and turn it to a shoulder or hip throw and ending with strikes or a sit in armbar for complete control if there are no other threats around but if there are then strikes would be good. just one fluid movement over your shoulder could be enough to end the attack but take further action for safety sake

@ironlou1 As Tuhon McGrath said, pushing him away provides you the opportunity to draw your own weapon. Creating distance allows the threat to be shot to the ground by application of gun fire, for example.

If it's too complicated for you, then you don't train enough.

@ZhuangziZhou This is from the Hand vs. Knife Level One DVD. You can order it from the Pekiti website. I based most of the fight scenes in my novels on Pekiti-Tirsia techniques and principles. You can read several free sample chapters on my book website, TheSwordofFire

those are alot of steps to think about while being attacked plus the slashing defense why would i want to slap someone with a knife away from me after gaining control of him all that does is give the attacker the distance he needs to start his attack again and that means you have to think your way through all of these unneeded moves agian. its a vicious cycle
