Sailing is an art. It is not too hard to learn the basics of sailing but it could take longer than a lifetime to master it. Sailing a catamaran is not much different from sailing most other boats. In this video we bring you through the steps of how WE sail OUR catamaran.

Sierra, I laughed my ass off when you reminded this old sailor of his wife. Eye roll followed by a face, “So we can sail off the hook or whatever.” Hahahahaha. You two are a good team. Humor each other a bit. It’s good to practice what you’ll do if the motor or fuel is out of commission. And a good workout never hurt anyone. Well done!

When you're sailing close hulled or a reach in moderate to heavier winds, you can lower the windward dagger and bring the leeward up. This will help reduce the heeling by eliminating the fulcrum on the leeward hull. And, when sailing on a broad reach or a run, bring both daggers up. You may already know this, but I thought I'd share some cat sailing techniques.
@Tulasendlesssummer

The thing I like about mono-hulls is that when you are in the cockpit and looking forward you can see where the boat is headed. With multi-hulls it seems like the only "view" you get when sitting in the cockpit (unless you are way high up in a chair steering the boat) is what you are leaving behind looking over the stern or whatever you scan see on the port and starboard side. Certainly the "comfort factor" of multi-hulls as far as interior cabin space goes has it all over mono-hulls. However when you are at sea, what is more important, what you feel like "inside" or the experience you get when you are outside sailing the boat?

@@Tulasendlesssummer A windmilling propeller produces as much parasitic drag as a flat plate of the same diameter. 1) Drag increases at the square of increase of velocity through the water (slower boat speed produces less drag than faster boat speed). 2) This is also proven in light of drag being a product of velocity. For variable pitch propellers, decreasing blade pitch to 17* equals the same amount of drag as a stopped, fixed pitch propeller. At 45* blade pitch, the drag is just a bit more than 90* blade pitch. There has been numerous testing which show this. But yeah, reduced wear on bearings and engine (and engine mounts) is a larger concern.

Thanks for taking us all along on this great ride!

It is a little tiny lithium motorcycle battery, ill look at the brand tomorrow. It has been working amazing, weighs like 1-2lbs and the engine charges it. If it ever goes flat (which it hasn’t) I would just use the pull start and the engine would charge it right back up.

Billy do you know if your sunscreen will stain vinyl seats. I had a friend that his brand seems to stain vinyl seats sometimes and hard to remove the stain? I wonder if the one you use since more natural might be safer on the vinyl?????????? I was going to tell some people over on the yamaha jet boat site about your suncreen if it would be better on the vinyl.

The tinted version of it has left a mark on some materials but we have never had a problem with the normal non-tinted version

FYI I have noticed that your sound is very low lately. I could be me but I haven't had any issues with other channels.

have you noticed a change in the boat's performance after taking off all that weight?

Heck yeah!! We are at a pretty good weight for cruising but could she’d just a few more pounds. She reacts much faster and have seen higher speed averages. Have t been in conditions to test top speed yet though.

@Tula's Endless Summer Absolutely you can! Turn the lights on and jig for them at night. Highly nutritious and better than conch in my opinion.

What happens if you don’t reef at 15 knots and try twisting the main to bleed power?
@Tulasendlesssummer

Yup that will definitely work for a few extra knots and in puffs but I definitely wouldn't do it long term.
