This build is cool but in my opinion Moon Knight is personified perfectly in a Zealot Barbarian. It has all the martial prowess of a barbarian combined with the religious flavour of a cleric. The subclass is literally about not dying. Moon Knight's fighting style is often described as him not dodging attacks and instead taking them and using that opportunity to strike back, trusting his stamina to push him through. He's one of the only marvel characters that taskmaster won't copy as it is way too dangerous. That's why con based unarmored defense and reckless attack work so well here. He is leaving himself open to attacks in order to make his own attacks stronger. Multiclass or grab the fighting style feat for unarmed strikes. Your build however is probably better for MCU Moon Knight, as it is unclear how accurate his fighting style is to the comics. It's also perfect for the flavour of Moon Knight, especially in a fantasy setting with common magic.
@Gabe6002 жыл бұрын
I agree, this build works better for Hunter's Moon than Moon Knight
@angrygnome442 жыл бұрын
I agree that this build seems quite faithful (ba dum tish) to the live action/MCU version, but perhaps not the best fit for the comic versions. Moon Knight doesn't really bust out magic in the comics, and in the few instances that he does, it's always through some sort of maguffin artifact. In the MCU, however, we see him literally channel divinity in one scene. I also appreciate the love that See Invisibility got in this build, an oft under appreciated spell, and just comes free on the Twilight cleric. I'd have to sit down for a while to hash out a full build for a comic focused Moon Knight build, but I think I'd also start with Zealot Barbarian as a base for most of the build, for basically all the reasons you had already listed, with maybe a dip into Rogue for extra skills, expertise, and cunning action. Also, his crescent blades should qualify for sneak attack, though that would only be a bit of treat damage rather than a focus if it's only a dip. Another option to consider in this, should casting be pursued, is perhaps looking at Warlock instead of Cleric. While Khonshu *is* a god, Mark didn't find him through faith (and a lack of faith leading him to turn to Khonshu is actually a big plot point in the comics). Instead, Khonshu behaves a lot like a predatory and *very* hands on patron entity, always on his shoulder, either trying to order him around or goad him into a desired course of action. Undead Warlock might be a good fit, as Form of Dread could be reskinned into Moon Knight suiting up. A few levels in and you get your hands on invocations, and Eyes of the Rune Keeper could be a good way to read all those long dead languages. Fiendish Vigor could help maintain his relentless naturre, Devil's Sight could fill a similar role to See Invisibility, and Beguiling Influence could help to fill out skills sets held by the other personalities. Keep in mind, I'm not suggesting that he would need all four of these, but any of them could be applicable for which aspects of Moon Knight you wanted to play up in a given campaign. I might have to actually put this sheet together at some point, it could be interesting the compare and contrast how this MCU build operates compared to a more comic centric one.

For real though the "Correct" way to make Moon Knight in D&D is to make 3 Character sheets. Marc/Moon Knight fits the Zealot Barb/Undead Warlock build Steven/Mr Knight works as a Watchers Paladin/Support Battlemaster Jake/"Lockley" would probably be a Bard/Rogue Build, potentially Valor on the bard side because you get an Extra Attack for that one) "Extra Attack doesn't stack." Now that the power of the Moon has been displayed with Moon Knight, maybe you could display the power of the Sun with Birdman. No, I'm serious, part of Birdman's backstory is that the Egyptian sun god Ra granted him his powers, but he needs to absorb the power of the sun on a regular basis or he no longer has his powers. Weren't expecting me to mention a Hana-Barbara character from the 1960s, were you? Also, Zandor from Herculoids, another Han-Barbara character from the 1960s, might be an interesting build for that; although you'll probably have to read the two-part comic Future Quest to learn a bit out his backstory that isn't made readily available in other places, like the Herculoids animated series.

man, can I ask you the levels you took from each? this build seems really fun
@c.v.emmans2 жыл бұрын
@@sntcci For sure! Started with 6 monk levels-I needed Shadow Step. Took two levels of cleric for the channel divinity, then two more of each for back to back ASI's, and that's where we're at now, level 12. Since I only intend to go 6 levels of cleric I might just do those right away, and make Diamond Soul my capstone. The mid-levels of monk don't feel like they offer nearly as much as so I'm kind of fine putting them off. Diamond Soul is so good though, I can't pass it up. Now, I was lucky enough to roll good enough stats to max my Dex and Wis (the main reason I did a MAD build), and my Con isn't too shabby either. If my con was lower, I'd probably use the last ASI to take Tough. As it stands I don't need to do that so I'll have a little flexibility. Losing that 1 ASI would really suck with poorer stats.

Secondly: What an amazing build and two subclasses that we never knew of before and really getting me thinking how else I would be multi classing into, really well done and amazing work mate. ^^

Focused on using quarterstaff with polearm master and sentinel to lock down enemies and free shift with relentless avenger. All while getting extra radiant damage from dice from divine smite and divine fury.

I can see why you went with cleric monk, but honestly, I don't see Marc and Steven as really worshiping Konshu like a cleric would. It varies a lot in the comics, over time. There have been periods where MK worshipped the concept of Khonshu, and fulfilled his duties, while the god was full-on imprisoned as a result of his actions - working for the throne, hating the dude on it, you know?
@capman422 жыл бұрын
I similarly built a Moon Knight-themed character a while back and settled on a fighter warlock. I ended up going with Battle Master and Celestial Patron myself, but I can't say I didn't consider Champion and Undead, for much the same reasons.
@The_Crimson_Witch2 жыл бұрын
@@capman42 I went with champion because moon knight's fighting style is more brutish and excessively violent than it is skillful. I can see celestial, but Konshu is basically a mummey deity so in my mind undead fits more. To each to their own though
@porkchopsensei27422 жыл бұрын
Depends on the continuity. In the show, probably a warlock. Khonshu and Marc made a deal. In the current Moon Knight run, he's more of a cleric because he considers himself a priest (even though Khonshu as a deity is no longer his object of worship). He upholds the values of Khonshu and treats them as guiding principles. I think both continuities can make a case for paladin, though. The difference between a deal and an oath is slim at best, and MK is usually devoted to "Protecting the Travellers of the Night" which is an oath if I've ever heard one. Plus, Paladins use less spells than smites, which is more in-line with Moon Knight as a combatant. And paladins still get Channel Divinities.

With respect to those who have DID, if you simply MUST play a character that has elements of it built in, the Eladrin race of elves from Monsters of the Multiverse is a player race with different personality traits and abilities depending on which of the four seasons they are aligned with. The player can choose one and stick with it, or you can swap between them at the end of a long rest. These can easily be used to simulate someones alters if they choose to do so, but always see what your group/DM is comortable with.
