I've never understood why people struggle with the idea of reflavoring spells as tech. It's the simplest way to add a lot of variety to the Artificer with minimal amounts of extra writing. Alternatively, you have to write a series of fantasy effects that use a limited resource to solve problems in flashy ways... aka spells. Either way it ends up mechanically similar to spells. So why not just give them a list of spells that match their intended flavor of inventor?

@@gazelle_diamond9768, I totally agree with you! Lots of people were upset by the idea of reflavoring spells as technology. Of course, according to Arthur C. Clarke's 3rd Law of Science Fiction, we say that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic". By logical extension, you might say that "magic is indistinguishable from sufficiently advanced technology". By this, I could say that any spell in the spell book is a form of technology that we just don't understand yet. In theory, with enough mental gymnastics, you could make any spell sound scientific. Try me. Name any 5 spells, difficult or not, and I'll try to turn them into sci-fi for you.

@@carsonrush4152 Heroism is one that's not exactly easy. Or any buff spell that is concentration for that matter. In general, the biggest problem with depicting certain spells as tech is concentration. How do you "concentrate" on a tech? You'd have to actively be holding that tech active, but that brings about many questions. If you have a useful solution to this, I'd be happy to hear it.

@@gazelle_diamond9768, you probably think of a concentration save/check as how well you're currently focusing on maintaining an effect. And that can work for many forms of tech. You could also say that it represents the level of focus you had when you built your tech. Your focused efforts to produce a high quality effect are tested each time the person or device is injured. For heroism, perhaps you created small darts that enhance their body with a mixture of drugs (for fearlessness) and nanobots (for temp HP). Since HP can represent your ability to shrug off physical trauma and stay active, it might just be a painkiller and healing aid. It could be freaking PCP mixed into a health potion. When you cast the spell, you flick darts at your targets, infecting them with the concoction. Or perhaps you've calibrated a brainwaves device that helps nullify the effects of fear and pain in their body, possibly triggering an adrenaline effect. You keep adjusting the settings on the device in order to accommodate changing conditions, and thus traditional concentration checks. Maybe the darts carry simple water that you focused your will onto, inbedding emotions of bravery into the magically charged water. Your concentration is required to maintain the alterations in the makeup of the water. Most sci-fi tech is a mixture of "applied phlebotinum" and "unobtanium". Applied phlebotinum is any energy source or scarcely understood phenomenon that can be used to power, activate, or cause an effect. Unobtanium is any material that is the perfect combination of mechanical, thermal, electrical, biological, of some other properties necessary for an application. For instance, I used nanobots, biochemistry, brainwaves, and psychic water as my applied phlebotinum, and darts as my unobtanium (a light delivery system). There are many other popular applied phlebotinums: DNA, hormones, generic chemicals, acids, pheromones, computer hacking, lightning, radiation, quantum anything, gravitons, quarks, gamma radiation, meta materials, smart materials, alloys, new metals, graphene, carbon nanotubes, composites, and so much more. With enough jargon, you too can BS your way through a pseudoscientific explanation. Give me some more. I really enjoy this. Go look up "Applied Phlebotinum" on TVtropes.com

Unless that player is Conan, the Cimmerian, black-haired, sullen-eyed, sword in hand, a thief, a reaver, a slayer, with gigantic melancholies and gigantic mirth, to tread the jeweled thrones of the Earth under his sandalled feet. Well in this build, Tulok gave Mando Medium Armor. Hence why Mando started off as a Variant Human with the Medium Armor Master and 16 DEX. You can go First Level Fighter for the Defense Fighting Style, then swap over to Ranger till at least Fifth level to get Mariner or Archery, Sharpshooter Feat and Extra Attack.

It change the skills you can start with, the saving throws, any tools and any weapon and armor... Not to worry tho. Going to fighter from any class gives all armor and all weapons... So really just saving throws and starting health.

Which the only difference is really how quick you want spells or want action surge Also you dont get heavy armor if you start as another class then go fighter, so if you want all weapons/armor, you NEED to start fighter

I do really like the reflavor that all of this gives you, essentially turning Mando into a spellcaster so all his gadgets are stuff he just has as he levels up. A very fun way to play a character when the idea is just to play that character and not to make it "accurate" in terms of them being *actual* gadgets. I've come to learn that being a Mandalorian is one of the most fun and surprisingly easy things to slip into as a Dex Fighter though, as after about 6 levels and some loot that they just sorta picked up, it became clear that our Eldritch Knight was just becoming Mando. We started leaning into this, and he started going to find things to compliment it. I got to do some fun things like reflavoring a Peregrine Mask to be a magical fuel source for a wing-pack, giving him a "jet-pack" that sprouts metal wings and fires a missile because while gunpowder is hard to come by in my world, explosive liquids reverse engineered from a cyborg angel are not. I also had an ancient gardening tool used by my world's Illithids to mist their plants, but as it turns out if you put a potion of Dragon's Breath in there it sure does make a flamethrower. Essentially what I'm saying here is, if you figure out a thing you want to do in your world, ask your DM about it. Most of the time if you have a good one they're gonna work with you to make the character you wanna make. Will they hold off on giving you explosives until a tier where they become something you can plan for? Yes, but we will give them to you. This build is really fascinating and a really fun way to see how what we did in my game could have gone vastly different, and really shows just how flexible flavor can make 5e's systems! Remember, the rules are a guideline, not a lodestone.

Another comment, Zee Bradshaw talked about something I never considered, which is flavoring your spellbook to more than, books. It would make so much sense to flavor the spellbook as your Armor! You still have the disadvantages of not having your spellbook, it still makes sense losing spells when losing part of your spellbook if the gadget or armor piece is destroyed, and getting extra spells is just scavenging other peoples "weapons."

Circle of the Land (Mountain) Druid. There's a bunch of terraforming spells that are just what you're looking for. Alternatively, guild artisan background and var human to get the skilled feat and grab a bunch of tool proficiencies. 2 levels of knowledge cleric and 7 levels of transmutation wizard gives you access to the fabricate spell and any tool proficiency that you don't already have. Now you can use the fabricate spell to make literally anything you want. You could also go with conjuration wizard to get the free object conjuration feature.

A loner father figure doing his best but he's a half-orc as well? I gotta get me one of those. Pros: better strength and con along with relentless endurance will keep you in the fight if someone gets too close to the child, and the hold person/monster crit becomes even scarier. Instead of Create Bonfire, I recommend Frostbite. It’s a Con Save cantrip that does d6 scaling Cold damage, and is the only evocation cantrip that has a saving throw, meaning it works with both potent cantrips and enhanced evocation. If the enemy happens to fail their con save, they also have disadvantage on one attack during their next turn. Call it a miniature ice bomb or something like that and have fun.

I actually played a warforged monk that did pretty well at playing like the mandalorian. Sun soul so had the blaster, flamethrower, and would have had nades later, buncha athletic abilities and punching stuff too. Good times. Had a plan to fit in a wand sheath and a wand of magic missiles to recreate those little needle things.

Later, our Mando plays a bit with what i would call a Dex finess Spear, or a reflavoured rapier. Not wanting to spoil too much, but spear design is very dex based as it has a small spear head and shorter overall length (very much a shortspear) This makes the use as more of a jabby jab stabby stab, closer range very rapier like weapon with the occasional use of a Polearm Master like bonus attack

NOT Battlemaster? Mando literally uses "Know Your Enemy" in Episode 4 to spot the rebel dropper, has a tripping, menacing, precision hit. Seems to have a technique for every scenario and we just go with cavalier cause... he's good at stopping people from hitting others with his no melee? He road a beast that one time which he clearly didn't wanna? Oh, and not to nit pick, but we really went with archer over defense? Beskar steel and we go archer? It's not OUT OF CHARACTER just seems really inefficient. You went 12 levels into wizard so it's not like he's really a martial anymore.

Yes but for most of the first season Mando did not possess Besker armour. And it showed in the damage he took. And even when he did get Besker it was only the chest piece and helmet if I remember right. On the other hand Mando showed himself a excellent marksman and somewhat decent brawler. So it's more in character to pick ranged combat over making him a tank.

I think an Artificer would be an interesting flavor build instead of Wizard. If you went with the Artillerist, your pulse rifle could be a Tiny turret that does 2d6 force damage and doesn’t need to be reloaded, plus you could get the Firebolt cantrip along with Thorn Whip for his grappling hook. Instead of Fighter, go with Ranger, specifically the Hunter, since he’s really good at tracking down bounties

I don't remember Ezio ever going dual wielding. As far as I recall the only AC protagonist that dual wielded were Shay from Rogue and Edward from Black Flag.

@@clothar23 of course you can, in fact you use them to fight all your battles in ac 2 ac 3 ac 4 etc. Given the focus on combos and finishing moves they have equivalent to other weapons

@@Anonymous_Hayabusa What combos ? They only thing you can do with the hidden blades are backstabs and basic parry and riposte. Meanwhile every AC protagonist has shown themselves to be competent with nearly every sort of melee weapon and more than a few ranged ones. Not to mention poisons , explosives , and various other traps. Though I will admit the Hidden blades are the iconic Assassin tool.

Episode #202 of the Fire Emblem stats: The Mandalorian. Honestly, I could just make a copy/paste from the Boba Fett video so... I'm gonna do that. Mando has a bunch of skills: heavy armor (the suit of armor), reason (both the blaster and the flamethrower), and flight (the jetpack). He's weak to faith because he's one of the few main characters without Force sensitivity. Compared to Boba, he has similar speed and luck but has average stats everywhere else.

My Mandalorian would take 3+ levels in Artificer (Armorsmith). My thorn whip is my grappling hook. Then multiclass into Wizard. My preference Wizard subclass is Conjuror (doesn't necessarily work with a Mandalorian, but whatever).

Very much like this build. I will admit, I wouldn't have thought of using Wizard with Mando, but it really does work. Just one question, though. Instead of Cavalier for the Fighter subclass, what about perhaps Gunslinger? Like Percy in Critical Role. It’s something that you can enable like on DnDBeyond, and I think it would fit Mando really well. Just my opinion, but that's what I would have done, personally. Especially with the trick shots that come with the class.
