To be 100% fair - and ignoring the joke - there's a lot of players out there who just don't value utility/mobility options enough, in any game (in D&D we tend to call such players munchkins.) Honestly, I feel like D&D is more fun when there's more utility options and ways for PCs to win, but not through hitting for bigger numbers. A great example was in Exandria Unlimited, when Aabria Iyengar's party defeated some fey crocodile creature by getting it on its back and basically tapping it out, instead of outright killing it. Wildmother was _happy_ with party.

@jonathanrich92813 жыл бұрын
Even better: As a Paladin/Wire Weaver multi class, double up on smites. Here’s how it works. Step one: Cast Thunderous Smite with a bonus action. It’s concentration, lasts for a minute, and the next attack you make that hits will have an added 2d6 thunder damage; also, the target must make a Strength saving throw or be pushed 10 feet away and knocked prone. (You could substitute a different Smite spell for this, I just happen to use Thunderous Smite on my Paladin). Step 2: Hit with a weapon attack, in this case your Kinetic Cables. Step 3: Activate Divine Smite. 2d8 radiant damage for a first level spell slot, plus 1d8 for every added level if you upcast it. So you’d do 2d6+2d8+1d4+(Intelligence modifier), though you’d need a little set-up time and you’d burn two spell slots every time you pull off this special move. Given how little damage Artificers get, though, it would be really useful. If you want to get really crazy, if you have two levels in Paladin and nine in Web Weaver, you could do this and *also* cast a cantrip as part of your attack, adding, say, a Firebolt or Shocking Grasp or something. If you took a Warlock level, or do what my Paladin did and took Magic Initiate, you could even do Eldritch Blast. I wonder if you could make the extra beams hit different targets….

I like this subclass because it keeps on the Artificer's theme of getting subclasses that play similarly to other classes while still being unique. Alchemist is an Artificer Cleric, Artillerist is an Artificer Wizard, Battle Smith is an Artificer Paladin, Armorer is either a Barbarian or a Ranger, and this subclass plays very similarly to either a Monk or a Rogue.

@@WolframKZbin I'm not talking about spells, I'm talking about how it plays. If you get the guardian armor, you're doing the same thing as a paladin. Protecting allies, in the front, dishing out damage, and helping out others who are in melee with you. That sounds exactly like a paladin play style
@WolframYouTube3 жыл бұрын
@@noblesseoblige319 The problem with Armorer, considering that I'm currently playing one, is that the damage part of it leaves a lot to be desired. The Armorer's supportive capabilities also leave something to be desired as well. They do get access to spells like Faerie Fire, Web, Cure Wounds, Lesser Restoration and Grease to a certain extent, but Paladins tend to be more effective in my experience, especially after they start unlocking their auras. Giving the Armorer cantrips doesn't make up for the fact that they get outscaled really hard by both full casters and conventional half casters. The better comparison, depending on the variant you play, either is Eldritch Knight Fighter if you're sticking by the UA version with Shield, or perhaps something like Cavalier Fighter or Ancestral Guardian Barbarian for the Tasha's version. Still, it's great flavour, and I love the character I'm currently playing to bits, but it would be remiss of me to not point out the shortcomings of the class/subclass

My favorite thing about this build is being able to cast cantrips out of the cables. For the longest time there have been a couple of homebrew ideas I have toyed with halfheartedly, and one of those was the idea of a Dex based caster class that uses bows as a casting focus to fire arrows made out of arcane energy, "casting" the spell on contact (effectively just adding a bow's range to the range of your spells, including touch-ranged spells). While part of the whole idea was that I just wanted to build a Dex based caster class, using touch-ranged spells at a distance was also a key draw, so I like the cables, even if the cables are limited to cantrips.

At level 9 you can make all uncommon Tattoos (2 and 3 level Spellwrought also uncommon ). Then at 17 you can make all rare tatts (4 and 5 level Spellwrought). Haven’t figured out the spells or the other higher level abilities.

I can imagine multiclassing this with 10 levels of Fighter and taking the Tunnel Fighter fighting style, the Cavalier subclass, and the Sentinel feat. In total, this gives the following: 1) 25 feet of attack range. (Explained in video.) 2) The ability to make opportunity attacks against any enemy that moves within said attack range and stop them in their tracks due to the 10th level Cavalier Fighter feature. 3) The ability to make unlimited opportunity attacks thanks to Tunnel Fighter which allows the user to use their bonus action to make opportunity attacks not cost their reaction until the start of their next turn. 4) Because of the Sentinel feat, the enemy can't use the disengage action to counter the build. Add a way to counter invisibility, and this becomes the ultimate area lockdown build. It turns any area up to 55 feet wide into a chokepoint.
@goodguyjosh31423 жыл бұрын
This is rad, I do think that it should give you a disengage action when you are using your kinetic cables, because the high-level ability that lets you dodge attacks with them would still provoke an opportunity attack.

I created a grapplIng hook once, to play as Fanny from MLBB. The way it functioned was: as a bonus action, you can shoot with this at a solit surface or object within range (60ft) and it will stick to that surface or object. You gain a flying speed equal to double your normal speed until the other end of the cable is released (you can do this at any time, no action required). If you are relying on this flying speed to stay afloat: you can only move in a straight line, can't move in the opposite direction of the other end of the cable, and you can't fly to a higher altitude than the other end of the cable It was kind of half-baked but it served its purpose

I feel this would be a great tool for rogues actually, especially arcane tricksters since you can use the cables to increase your own stealth use the wire as a lock picking tool, it is both thin and sharp enough at the end, and with the added dexterity of a prehensile wire it might be easier then with lock picks climb buildings with minimal difficulty whilst in stealth (vertical sneaking) imagine casting a cantrip from the other side of the room, causing the enemy guards to rush out by the left whilst you are coming by the right entrance using the wire as a communication tool, allowing you to talk to NPCs at a distance even though they are guarded and/or inaccessible making this invisible or casting a minor illusion at a distance, so you have a noose trap that you can always deploy with minimal prepping using a hand drill to send the wire through the walls, maybe even snaking in the wall cavities and the linings, effectively letting you spy on rooms at a distance techno-sorcery setting makes this busted as you can hack air-gapped systems from a distance plus, you can make this cable into an endoscope (as if you couldn't already) that uses zero spell slots/castings prestidigitation to set the cities archives on fire whilst you have the ability to be at a party in the nearby building so many covert uses, one of the best tools for a rogue and one of the reasons why grappling hooks were considered the most important ninja tool
@joaosturza3 жыл бұрын
the additional utility for a ranger is also great as you not only have rope and traps it allows you to non-lethaly take down even large animals and monsters, fell and prune trees, take down beetles and grubs that may burrow inside a tree for either removal of pests or as an emergency source of food it allows you to check the ground for traps of either be it Ankheg, mimics or giant trapdoor spiders for medics that is a boom for surgery as this is used in real life and a smaller incision is going to make surgery much easier on the patient, be it removing tumors of the daughters of nobles or taking out arrows from fallen soldiers

the uses in combat are vast as a lot of anime characters that use wires can show you can set up almost invisibly thin wires and make them extra sharp with magic to be able to cut them down the blades are also phehensile and obey your thoughts so they are effectively unblockable as you can just make them go around the opponents blade they are also a great way of delivering poisons, both in combat and for assasinations use with lectricity make this the ultimate tool of any high tech techno-sorcery playthru since you have a way to manupulate wires and elecricity of any eletronic or mechanical device

@PadraicSmith3 жыл бұрын
You'd probably think that the "use the wire as a Monk weapon" probably *shouldn't* work because the wire should probably have the "Special" property. Additionally the Eldritch Knight thing doesn't work. You have to cast a cantrip as an action; not as part of an attack. Weird rules thing but by explicit wording, it doesn't count, you aren't using your action to Cast a Cantrip, you are using your action to make an Attack. Whilst your attack allows you to cast cantrip as part of the attack (which btw is weird and how does that interact with Eldritch blast, what with it being multiple attacks as part of a cantrip?) your action is still to make the attack, so you can't Bonus action attack.

This is a great idea for artificer and I want to try it. I'll have to watch it a couple more times and probably join patreon but there's something I'd probably add (unless it's there I just missed it). That is a limited flight at a mid to higher level and a spider sense like ability also mid to higher level. Limited Flight: Spidey Batman and even Mikasa basically fly using Webb's, cables, & grappling hook. Make it make sense only when surroundings are conducive (eg. you can't do it in an open field) and an int. or dex. saving throw to maintain concentration smart enough to know where to or fast enough to put out a cable to stop from falling. Spider Sense: it's cool and a character that uses cables for movement and traps would have to be constantly aware of their surroundings to know where to put them thus giving them a "spidey sense" it could be as simple as giving bonus to or Advantage on seeing things in there surroundings (eg. Traps, opponents etc) or a bonus on dex saves and eventually advantage on Dex saves or giving them Evasion.

I agree, I think the wire length could also be attached to proficiency, showing a progessive build of skill over time, as well as give players 30' wire movement.

Are we sure that it's that preparation-focused? I don't think the wires get used up.

@@gamecavalier3230 Artificers can make magical items, have access to heat metal, can store a spell into an item and cast it a bunch of times, and can increase their Con to 19.
@imaginationave36873 жыл бұрын
@@gamecavalier3230 First of all, yes, Bards and Druids get the spell faster. But, since the Artificer has Prof in Con saves, the Artificer is better at keeping it. Second, Heat Metal damage is activated as a bonus action, AND Bob the human fighter isn't imposing disadvantage on attack rolls with his sword. 3'rd: Heat Metal is a 2'nd level spell, meaning you can cast it 10 times FOR FREE! Each one lasts a minute, and deals 2d8 fire damage every six seconds. 200d8s altogether. That's a lot of damage. 4'th: Yes, any class can cap off Con by level 14, but Artificer is mainly Int based, and their are a lot of feats for this very versatile class. The amulet helps you with multiclassing, because you can focus on you other primary stat without much sacrifice. And pair it with the tough feat, oh boy.

@@gamecavalier3230 You do know that the Battle Smith and Armorer have extra attack, and a lot of combat spells.

Everyone: "Great, now I can play as Spider-Man!" Me: "Great, now I can play as my favourite psychotic, flamboyantly dressed pirate warlord with diplomatic immunity, Donquixote Doflamingo!"

Bingo. That was the first thing I thought of when the “Weavers Tools” would be used as the Kinetic Cables. Anime microfilaments! Doflamingo. Walter C. Dornez. Boogiepop. God, do I love this subclass.

Great. Now I gotta make my DM accept this homebrew into his games so I can make a wire weaver kensei monk because that sounds fucking awesome. 1d10 with a 25 feet range and several attacks is too awesome not to do.
