I remember summer nights when I was a kid, lying in bed with the window up, listening to the races... and we lived over 5 miles away! I guess they were pretty loud but I still miss that!

Went many times when in my early teens. Too bad the people in the area screwed things up.

Just because of a bunch of Karens we lost one of Tulsas coolest things.

I spent every Saturday at the Tulsa Speedway during my childhood. Then the Karens screwed it up.

Mufflers to this day are not run on race cars. I got an idea, if you don't want to hear the cars, don't move near a race track. It was there long before houses were.

Our next door neighbor raced a stock car here a few seasons. We used to go, it was cool!

And as soon as the track was ousted, she moved out of the area...🤬

Yes, I heard that as well. I also heard from Mark Downing who worked for FastLane racing newspaper. That there was some under the table dealing with Stanley Durrett to move the Speedway to another location. So the fairgrounds board could renovate the track for pari-mutuel horse racing. Ironically the same exact thing happened to the dirt track over in Fayetteville Arkansas. With the exact same thing happening, with regards to the lady there, moving away after the track was finally closed...

Track was there before the whiney asses moved to the area. Used to be one of the best tracks in the country. Now it’s rusting away. Sad.

@@51-FS Nope, this is the big track at the Tulsa Fairgrounds. Big 3/8 mile track. Was AWESOME! When the asshole neighbors had it shut down, they moved the “Tulsa Speedway” to 56th St North. Now, there’s a “New Tulsa Speedway (1/4 mile) by the drag strip. Same owners.

If people would not build right up to race tracks with housing additions and then start complaining about noise after the fact. They'll do it to airport's too! But they won't build nowhere near a sewage treatment plant go figure!😉

The Fairgrounds Speedway track was built in the 1970s (I think) which was after all the houses were already there

No, the track was there, long before any of the housing addresses were built. Because a number of individuals including my late dad used to race at the track. And that is one thing they talk about is there was nothing there. When the track was initially built. I've even seen photos that Mark Downing, who worked for FastLane racing newspaper. Had of the area. And there were no homes anywhere close to the fairgrounds Speedway when it first was built.
