Winter 2021 jumped thru a lot of hoops to go to Thailand for a week. Including taking the chance of straight to the hospital for 10 days if we tested positive covid when we landed. Stayed at a Ko Samui resort in a cabin and its own pool for the cost of a Dayton Whoreday Inn. We're not resort people but that was worth it.

I LOVE to learn... "we were the last to go on the ruins because tourists kept dying". Nope... it's cause the number of tourists that are climbing on and degrading the ruins. And definitely not playing that game with a concrete rock. A rubber ball was always used. Its size and weight varied over the centuries. Most historians assume a weight of 3-4 kg (7-9 lb) and a size of a skittle ball (110-130 mm). The existence of a caoutchouc tree was necessary to produce the ball. These trees were found in the tropical regions in the Maya territories.[1]

I saw Koh Samui/ Koh Phangan same same - got "stuck" there for +1month at the beginning of Covid - we roamed empty roads on acid, or mushrooms, lived inland in Koh Samui literally under cherry blossoms... what a magical time, while everyone was washing produce at home, and were locked down - 0 guilt too ;)

53:45 As for brushing your teeth in Mexico, some resort destinations have their own water treatment center, and you can use that water to brush your teeth. I stayed in one of the resorts in Playacar which has a water treatment facility andi was able to brush my teeth. Playacar is near Playa del Carmen which is not far from Tulum. They may have been staying at resort is that community.

@arishaffir So I was in Cancún March of 2020 (right when the pandemic hit) and I was only supposed to be in Mexico for 2 weeks, then I was going to Thailand for 3 months... Well, my trip to Thailand obviously got canceled so I could either go back to the U.S and fist fight over toilet paper and hand sanitizer, or I could stay in paradise. I ended up staying in Mexico for 5 MONTHS at the beginning of the pandemic, and it was absolutely glorious! Had Cancún, Playa Del Carmen, Isla Mujeres, Holbox and Tulum seemingly all to myself. Had beaches all to myself, entire cenotes with only 3 people in them, and you could ride a bike around town as if you were Will Smith in "I Am Legend." It was a moment in time I'll never get back and I was so incredibly lucky. Never had to quarantine, never had to lock down, rarely wore masks and was in paradise for half a year with no tourists.

I could've given a much better run down of Tulum. It's only ruined if you don't know how TF to move around the cattle. The town is dope af and the beach strip is top tier. You can still find deals if you know where to look. These basic b's missed out on A LOT. Calle Centauro, La Velleta, the southern local end of town, kaan lum.
