This whole family line is cursed to be greedy. The father was a greedy kid since his childhood and so did the son turn out to be. In the last scene, the son brought too many dolls made out of wheat hoping that Hastar (the god) will give me more and more gold but we saw what happened. The father died in the process but he was happy in the end seeing that his son turned down greed.

I think you guys misunderstood the main character a little bit, during the 1947 time jump when the kid is training , the father actually wants him to be good at it but as one of his legs is deformed , the dad has basically given up on his prospects and hence thinks that him training is useless coz you need good feet to run. But since the last three time he returned empty handed , he has to take him there because the kid is naturally faster than him, that's exactly why he tells him not to bring the dough doll into the womb because it was meant as practice, so he didn't want his kid dead at all he was just trying to give him more practice before the d-day as he had a deformed leg. The dad obviously loved his son but he never could express it himself nor did he want to keep his authority over the kid strong because there is no time to second guess decisions once you're in the womb( like an army general ) , and evidently , the first time he gives his son's idea ( which is greedier) a chance is the time he dies. Tries to tell us that there is a threshold to how greedy one should be and you should know your limits.

The father was getting old and slow which meant that he could be cursed by Hastar or even killed so he trained his son to climb the rope and rip the pouch open and take the coins. The son wasn't deformed. The son was just young and fast. The son was also even more greedy and lusty even worse than his father.

The movie just re-released a week ago or so and it's doing way better than the last time. Already collected more money in 1 week than the total collection from it's original release in 2018. Just one addition to the re-released version is that in the end when the boy closed the door from outside a narration comes up saying that the Story will continue from this same moment (scene) onwards in part 2 of Tumbbad. And it will release soon (no date or news of release out as of now). So Tumbbad 2 is confirmed. 😊

Quick trivia: The child actor who played Vinayak's son is the same actor who played the Grandma in the first part of the film. Yeah! It blew my mind too. :P

Father seems happy at the end cause he kinda proud of his son..his son break the circle of greed which always passed in their generation.... In first gen, Granny collect gold coins In second gen,mom gives handjob for one coin In third gen,son wants more than one gold coin In forth gen,that boy wants the whole bag which contains infinite numbers of gold coins So,in the end he breaks the greed curse. Fun fact : the movie took years to make because the rain shots of every single scene are natural rain ( it rains heavy in parts of western india) and the producers avoided use of CGI and artificial rain as it costs a lot. Which in return saved a lot of money and movie was completed in just 20cr ( approx) which is not even 10 percent of what costs most bollywood and hollywood movies! The boy who played the son's role is the same who played the great great grandmother in the beginning. This one is truely a MASTERPEICE❤ i recommend 2 movie Not horror But suspense and thrill 1. Andadhun ❤ 2. Ratsasan❤ 3. Drishyam 1 and 2 (bollywood one AJAY devgn) These are 100% great You can do a poll too just to checkout

The movie is symbolic and more about nature. Just observe the background. 1st generation is cautious use resources wisely & in the background has very dense forest and so the rain is very heavy. 2nd generation: forests become less dense and during the times of 3rd generation there is neither forest nor rain. The original marathi book clearly links western ghats, forest and monsoon.

i notice one thing from seeing this movie. At the end, the rain stopped it's probably because Hastar is dead. As in the beginning it was told that when the goddess saved her son and the people of Tumbbad made a temple to worship Hastar, the other gods were angry and the rain never stopped in tumbbad as a punishment kind of... for the people of Tumbbad. And then the last scene it was shown that all Hastar were dead (I assumed Hastar is dead because the kid was safely able to climb up there otherwise he couldn't) and the rain was stopped.

In the end the son has a choice to take the purse with unlimited coin and continue the tradition of greed in their house or end it all by refusing it and granting freedom to his father. But looking at his father in that state he realizes what greed has caused to their family. First they got materialistic which is not bad in itself, but then lust and debauchery enetered their house, first slyly and then openly. Then came in envy and unhappiness in form of his mother not being happy. The kid himself was attracted by lust at such a young age just because he had exposure to it. The son realized that one vice will bring in more vices and eventually lead to their downfall. So he decided to burn his father and reject the cycle of greed. His father was finally truly happy that his son was able to take the right path that he never could. The father knew in his dying moments that his family will now lead a greed free and vice free life.

I wanted him to take the loincloth because I was simply curious whether it would work at all. I thought it stops producing more gold coins as it's not attached to Hastar anymore. It's simply a piece of cloth with a limited number of coins in it. So it might still save some trips into the womb but simply not worth it.

@@research4719 everyone is greedy. His was not an extreme form of greed but a sustainable one. He took only one food doll and collected the money. He took the risk and was awarded, similar to everyone in this world who earns money. As long as he was extracting the gold sustainably, he was successful in his endeavour. However, his son thought of getting all the gold at once which highlights the greed but it also highlights the need. The need to hoard gold as due to changing times, that area was going to be declared a national property, father was becoming old, son lacked experience and was not big enough. Thus the greed of the son led to his demise. As Gandhiji has said, there is enough for everyone's need but not for everyone's greed. When he limited himself to fulfilling of need,i.e, sustainably getting gold, he was safe but once greed took over, he perished. It is most appropriately manifested in today's consumerism and overly materialistic society.
