I’ve owned both the Search and Navigation. Kept the Search, been using it for a year on daily commute on public transit and air travel. The Search had a few features (double zipper small front) and size I need.

My biggest gripe is isn’t doesn’t stand well. The front enclosure gets bunched up & it falls over

Have had my Alpha Search for 2+ years now. It’s fantastic. The nylon just lasts forever. I went to a Tumi backpack after years of using a Tumi Alpha nylon briefcase. That Tumi proved to be pretty much indestructible - nearly a decade of every single day use commuting for work and many many business trips in airports and train stations. The crazy thing is that the briefcase still looks pretty minty new. Hoping the Alpha Search backpack lasts forever as well.

To prevent caving: Cut a piece of clearbook cover that covers 80% of side to side. Get a magnet. Attach the cover and add the magnet to the metal name plate. Works like a charm.

I recently just bought my first Tumi bag. I was in between the Search and the Navigation. I love the shepherd and that was then replaced by the search and I didn’t fall in love with the bag, I hated the way it would concave in if you didn’t have a microfiber cloth in it. So I ended up with the navigation. I love this bag! I think you should give it a try and would love to hear your thoughts on it! The expandable feature makes it just about as wide as the search but much more minimalistic and I think the design of the bag is more appealing as well

Tried both, thought the Navigation looked more feminine, so went with the Search.

Thanks for sharing! I was in same dilemma of whether to go with more spacious Search or compact Navigation. I finally decide to go with the latter for same reasons as you. There’s a trade-off for the extra capacity in Search, where the bag’s thickness makes one look as if carrying a turtle shell on back. Navigation in comparison is more flush and streamlined, which I think gives a sleek and smart look that pairs well with business attire (got quite a few compliments on biz trips). Best part about Navigation is how the construction of bag is able to support top portion from sagging in. Overall an extremely satisfying purchase for me.

I bought the Search and the Esport Sling for my 10 day Japan trip , I absolutely loved them both ! Worth every penny, if the caving in bothers you , I recommend putting your socks there if you use it for travel , thats what i did at first but then I realized it didnt bother me at all .

@Fr4nkB I used it for carry on , my seat didn't have a section to put my bag under , I never use luggages when I travel either , and even if my seat had an option to put by my feet I think I wouldn't, the bag is too nice to sit on the floor but if they ran out of room on the overhead then yeah I'll put it on the floor .

I’m looking at this one, the brief pack and even the B@R traveler and large cargo. I’m leaning to this. This would be for overnight trips with a lap top, some work files, a change of clothes for work and toiletries. Which would you suggest? I like the organization of this. Not sure if being recycled ballistic means less durable vs the FTX ballistic on the brief pack. Also - last question sorry - would packing cube work for the change of clothes or just too big for a backpack? Thanks! Great video.

I bought the Tumi Search and it’s awesome. I used it on an overnight work trip this week as my only bag and it was perfect. It held (with tons of extra room) my computer, iPad, work notebook and folders, cords, clothes for the next day and toiletries. I decided to use packing cubes to keep my work clothes from getting wrinkled and it was great. Love the search. I may use it as my every day work bag too now and ditch my 10+ year old alpha expandable brief pack.

@@MikeMCT I bought the Tumi Carson bag last year. When it arrived, I noticed it was smaller than I expected for a dude. I used it for work and travel along with my carry-on. I just gifted it to someone I know and they love it. I have a couple of AER bags which are very nice. But I tried on the search bag at the Tumi store at the airport that I work at. I don’t care for hard structured bags. I like them kinda saggy/pliable. I like the search bag. It’s roomy and looks soft. But I’m eyeing the Briggs & Riley medium cargo (work) backpack. I love good quality that lasts. Decisions…decisions

I have a Tumi Bravo Search. I think it works okay for an overnight trip. I probably would prefer slightly larger but very doable. I personally prefer larger because I like to bring a pair of running shoes and a book. If it were just clothes and a few toiletries, the bag should be fine

@@ricksplace-kp8ph not at all bad. I hear them from time to time but doesn’t bother me. I use my Tumi 5/7 days & it sits in my truck & in an outside sales guy who drives 20-25k miles a year.

The primary laptop compartment seems loose enough that it might not hold the laptop securely. Have you seen any issues with that during your ownership?

Not 1 issue & I carry my work Laptop or my 14 MacBook Pro depending on what I’m doing

how did you get tumi to emboss your luggage tag? when i bought my tumi a few weeks ago they told me that they have discontinued the service to emboss the luggage tag
