Thanks for such a detailed tour and the associated historical explanation. Dobbaspet a.k.a Dobb's pete is Maj Gen Dobb's namesake. This is the major point of deviation on NH4 towards DDurga. Also DD had the famous tiger (The hermit of DD or Durgada Sanyasi) who was shot by the famous Kenneth Anderson (documented in his book Nine Maneaters and a Rouge). While this tiger roamed people would be scared to go to both temples. To continue to worship they found a place on the Tumkur-DD hills road famously known as 'Aarati Bande' which used to provide a direct view of the temples and devotees would worship shri narasimhadevaru from afar.

Between Tumkur district and the Arabian sea, there is the Western Ghats. Since water does not flow upstream it is impossible that one branch of the Jayamangali flows into the Arabian sea.

There is world of difference between the early Marathas and the later Marathas (who came after Peshwa Bajirao I).
