Update 10-2022: The last fix only lasted a few months and I was resetting the system using a code reader every day for 18 months. I finally installed the Hewitt Technology bypass kit and was able to remove a lot of the original Toyota system junk. What a waste of time and $ this has been. Go with the Hewitt Technology kit first. Update 06-2020 More codes, so I replaced the bypass valve unit - big job it required removing the intake manifold. Update 04-2020 - My Tundra went into limp mode last week, after delaying the job of replacing parts. Yesterday I started by replacing just the 2 air pumps and the trumpet. I ran the code search again and all is good for now. I'll wait on replacing the valve unit until needed. Fyi, I replaced the pumps by working mostly within the wheel well, except for the 2 wiring connectors under the hood. Fairly easy job - but you should have an assortment of push connectors to get everything buttoned up again. An autopsy and disassembled the air pumps and found water in only 1 pump. I installed the updated trumpet to avoid flooding them in the future. Nice informative video - Thanks! 2007 Tundra 5.7 original code was P2445 - engine light on. Scan reading "secondary air injection system pump stuck off".

The trick is you undue the nuts on both side of the tubes going down to the exuast. Then come back up and undo the two bolts on the driver side. Then slightly lift up the driver side tube. Once you do that, you will be able to wiggle out the valves itself after you've undo the top three bolts. Hope that helps. Took me four hours to replace all the components mentioned here. Good luck.....

The trick is to take the 4 t25 torx head bolts out of the valves and just replaced the valve it self just make sure the valve plate is facing the correct way when installing them.... that’s how I did it and no problems since.

I had this check engine light come on in July (2007 Tundra with 120,000 miles). I took it to Foothills Toyota in Burlington, WA and they replaced the pumps (not sure about the valves) at no charge. They emphasized that the check engine light (P2442/P2443) MUST be showing when they check it or Toyota will not authorize free repair (so don't clear the light if you check it yourself!)

Those valves are not "very expensive". A net set of pumps costs roughly $140. What's expensive is the labor that the dealer charges. If you can turn a wrench, you can replace the pumps for under $200 and you won't need the bypass methods that cost three or four times more.

Sir. I need your help please. I have a 2008 5.7 Toyota Tundra just like the one in your video here. At the 1 minute 50 second Mark of your video you place those valves down (as you're talking), and you place them down on top of a hose. The hose has like some sort of heat protectant around it and it swings across the top and connects on the manifold and then it goes the other direction towards the airbox. CAN YOU PLEASE TELL ME THE EXACT NAME OF THAT HOSE? And no it doesn't connect to the PCV valve. When that hose connects into the top of the manifold it is held on buy a little clamp that you squeeze with your fingers. I'm hoping you can give me the exact name of that hose because I would like to order it aftermarket and I need the name. I know it's some sort of vacuum hose. Thx

I didn't get what it was as far as P2441 or 2442. I have a 2008 Tundra ( 5.7 liter) with 93 K on it. Is it under warranty and do I have to replace all this stuff? Guess the big thing is warranty. My truck wont move, I disconnected the battery for 30 minutes but the eng. lite is still on. there is no power. I googled the 2440 code says air diverter which is what I clean the last time, that worked for a week . Here I am on square 1. Looking on Ebay to replace that part, hope to get that in tree days. I inspected the diverter that the rubber seal that is visible underneath is fried. Is this A free repair on a 2011 Tundra? I have less than 80k miles.
@PlainOldJim8 жыл бұрын
+mikoloe the rubber seal failing is not part of the extended warranty. And also a seized diverter valve should not inhibit the truck from moving. It sounds like you have a much larger issue at hand

I can give you this advice. The extended warranty for this repair is 10 years or 150000 miles.. my 2008 5.7 how to check engine light come on 2 1/2 to 3 weeks ago at 127000 Miles. I was over the 10 years by 7 months.. water and condensation has got into your air injection pump through no fault of your own since it was a faulty design. However it was not recalled so this repair is not free. I'll tell you what Toyota is doing. If you are a Toyota loyalty customer which usually means you have to have done all your repairs at a Toyota dealership and what helps more is if you bought more than one truck which I have bought three- you can call Toyota Motor Corporation and they will speak with you about your problem. This is a very expensive repair. You cannot get your car inspected because this is an emission repair. My repair here in El Paso is $2,489. I reached out to Toyota Motor Corporation and they are aware of the problems, even though I was 7 months over the 10 years since I was a loyalty customer they return my call today and decided to cover 80% of the cost. So I'm out $493 in my pocket. If Toyota Motor Corporation doesn't help you it's a very expensive repair. FYI, I was told by the dealer to drive the truck very slowly and not accelerate swiftly or depressed the accelerator all the way down because this will create more emission in the system and could damage the catalytic converters. That would add another two or three thousand to your bill. Drive the truck is extremely slow and do not accelerate quickly. Keep the RPMs low until you repair it. Good luck

07 tundra 5.7 liter. Truck has just 45k miles on her. Had this done by dealer under warranty. When I hit the freeway from the dealership I noticed it makes a dieseling sound like the exhaust manifold is leaking. Keeps making that noise, sounds like a leak. Before I take it back (at my expense apparently) I want to check it out myself during the holidays. Does this require removal of the exhaust manifolds or just the intake. Or could there be a leak from the exhaust manifold? Isn't there a valve that feeds into the exhaust ahead of the cat or is there a tube from the check valve down to the exhaust? Thanks
