Jeep Key Fob Dead Battery Secret

I know of that feature, but remote battery is still good for five years (knock on wood). But did not know if it would still operate if the remote battery was dead. I ordered a replacement battery (thanks for that info). It was $2.95 on Amazon and will keep it in the Jeep just in case...

I came across your video about this today. Recently, I had/have this issue crop up "Key-Fob not detected", however, it's not from a dead fob battery as your very detailed instructional video showed me how to open and check the battery in it. It was still good. It seems that the jeep may have lost programing on my key fob. If ;you know how to do this it would make a good follow up video for you. In the meantime I will have to continue my search. Thank you for a very informative vid!

Surprised that the never used spare fob battery died within a couple days of regularly used fob dying. At Target, Energizer CR2450 batteries come in pairs. Suggest using 1 and saving a new one sealed until needed. They're good for 10+ years, sealed and unused.

Good to know. Hopefully I have a couple years to go. However, my wife's car has a dead key fob that is ready for a new battery. Should be able to get to it in about 3 weeks. Thanks for the video!

No hard key lock on the 22 and newer wranglers. I own a 22 and it has no key locks. My 18 JL had the ability to use the hard key.

Hey Rob....This video will help a lot of folks...I have a 2014 Jeedp that the fob just drains after a few days (it is my backup fob) however, when i use it i have to go thru the dead fob startup that you covered. I have cleaned the inside area of the fob w/ lens cleaner & Qtip but can't figure out why the drain....Very frustrating, any thoughts on continued batt drain?

Hard to say. There could be many reasons or just a defective fob?

Thank you for this, do you have a question any way to disable the horn from honking when locking the vehicle? I just got a 2022 gladiator I’ve had it for two days now and just find that horn hoking a little annoying

Not too sure myself? There could be something in the settings that disables it🤔

@@robmotiveplus If I find out I’ll let you know, I’m used to when you first push the button it locks if you choose to push it a second time is when the horn beeps briefly like it does. It’s only to acknowledge the locking if you didn’t hear it lock the first time.

It’s in settings, on the media display, doors and locks I was able to remove the horn hunking on first button it only honks now if I press it twice very nice thank you for helping me think about this

I have a bad habit of not reading the manual until something is wrong or I find a button I didn't know was there and wonder what it's for. My wife did that in her 4Runner. Had a button and didn't know what it was. Turns out she had heated windshield wipers that melt the ice from the windshield! That would have been nice to know the previous two winters.

What drives me crazy is the emergency button on the fob? I keep hitting it by accident or it goes off while the fob is in my pocket. There has got to be a way to disable that button. Any suggestions?

I have openedf key fobs on other car's fobs and put a small piece of skotch tape on the curcuit board under that button.

All vehicles have a special spot to put the key and start it when you have a dead key fob

💥💥 HELP…. Please if of course you know. My daughter just changed the fob to her 2018 Compass but the car still doesn’t detect it. She popped out the emergency key and she says that it will NOT turn to unlock the door. How is that possible…?? 🙏🏼🙏🏼

If you change the fob, it has to be linked to the specific vehicle. Otherwise all fobs would work on all vehicles.

@@robmotiveplus my apologies. “Changed” was a typo. We figured out the dilemma half hour ago and I told her to go back out and try again. She called me up freaking out saying that her car was 10 spots down and this time face out when last night it was pulled in. She had the wrong car. 🤣🤣 her boyfriend changed the battery last night in the fob and she found out today that he had it in backwards even after I told her to make sure to tell him to put the. + face down. What a mess but now all is good.

That looks like the fattest lithium button battery I’ve ever seen. Yet, it doesn’t appear to last twice as long. I’ll have to get one on order…my Jeep is nearly a year old. Of course, it’s still at the shop following my squirrel attack, but it’s best to have that replacement on hand. Thanks for popping your fob open to show that fatboy!
