I've found an easy way to tune your drums using a free frequency generator app. Check it out!

I downloaded the frequency generator app, but I am struggling to operate it right now.

It can be a little difficult to adjust because tiny movements make the frequency change quite a bit. But if you use the little plus and minus buttons you can do fine tuning.

Why you do this ? By ear ? The Softwere is nice but why you dont put a mic and send to a laptop and open a Eq with note frequencies ? Tell what note is the Tom or Snare

How do you measure or calculate the sound with the generator? Or does the generator automatically calculate pitch on its own if you the smartphone next to the lugs of your toms and snare?

Once you determine what frequency you would like the drum to be, and I would recommend you listen to notes on a piano to get the correct frequency, then you simply set the frequency to that level and hold it next to each lug as you tune the drum so that the tone of tue drum head matches the frequency.

North drums were NOT invented or designed by Roger North (to whom my best friend sold the original moulds)as he has claimed for over 40 years (ask Alan White, Billy Cobham, Bill Bruford), they were invented and developed by Graham Davies (rip) , a life long friend and it's about time he got the credit. He had the idea whilst looking at the flair on a trumpet and (eurika) imagined the effect visually and audibly it would have on tom toms. Among other inventions of his like the Octobans (Tama name not the original) originally designed with different lengths to be tuned to an octave, so a lot of them...12! A genius, started as a motor mechanic and even worked for Downton Engineering UK (who did engine developmant for BMC , Mini Coopers etc), their race cars which Graham worked on were legendary, and now so are his drums.👍🇬🇧🎺

I've mentioned your comment on the North Facebook groups to see what kind of reaction it brings. I'm very interested in what kind of discussion ensues. By the way, it appears you're form the UK--my mom was born and raised in Harrow. At 89 she's still alive and doing well. It must be that good, English upbringing! :)

@@christhedrummerkimball ..... Hi Chris, i imagine there will be some heavy comments on fb but still interested to see what Mr.North may say. He certainly did well to take the project forward to production and patent. Graham had other unique drum inventions that never got realised, equally visually and soundwise spectacular but with respect for him I will never reveal them. May I wish you and your dear mother a Happy New Year. Peace👍🇬🇧

@@okgo8315 Thanks! I checked with Roger North and he vehemently denies your claim, which I suppose is to be expected. We'll see who else weighs in! Thanks again for watching and for your input, I appreciate it.
