I grew up with best motoring in my life and top gear. Some cars you can’t put into words how good they are set up right and built correctly. I’m so glad I found your channel! I love Mazda’s and own a ND Mx5 club sport. I’ve been wanting a FD RX7 for the longest time. I see my ND as a baby FD. I’ve owned a MR2 Turbo, 91 eclipse awd turbo, integra gsr, Camaro Z28 and a transam for fun cars. I plan to focus my life towards track days since I’ve not attended one yet. Hopefully all of life set backs will become better. I enjoy how you tune and mod your cars. A lot of thought is put into it. It’s refreshing to see real content and substance. Please keep up the great work!

Yes sir. I truly understand how you feel about your third gen. This video was amazing and I love how you added a lap timer on the video. I knew it would be close to the honda miatas time since i saw in some parts of the track the fd was of boost and the na miata appeared to be on power everywhere. The Fd 68 miles per hoir wow. She has some legs and on a bigger track she would probably smoke the honda miata. As for this track congrats to the honda. I would love to see both of them in a battle just to see where the the honda is faster. Dude thanks for the video
@TheSlipAngle6 жыл бұрын
Thanks buddy! Yeah, the FD's gearing is just not a good match for this track. It really favors short geared, lightweight cars like the Miata. On the big track where I can stay in the meat of the power, it would be game over ;)

damn, this car is almost mirror image of my build. I went from 60-1 to a GTX3582r and I had Apexi coilovers. Street ported engine. Power FC with commander for the brains.
@TheSlipAngle5 жыл бұрын
How do you like the GTX over the 60-1?
@viper22jc5 жыл бұрын
@@TheSlipAngle it was way better, the boost came on quicker, boost curve was wider and smoother. In my opinion it was like that turbo was made for a rotary engine. I had fun with the 60-1, but once I switched to the GTX it felt more proper.

Dope episode man! That FD is flipping siiiiick! I felt the pain when your tire blew though. Those aren't cheap! Recalling you went cheap on your Rx8 tires maybe you could look into Riken Raptor zr's. Right now I have zr's on my Rx8 and they run pretty good and strong. Whether or not they would stand up to your track madness I'm not sure. Ha!
@Kamal-sj7it6 жыл бұрын
I'd like to feature my car but it's bone stock except for some cooling mods. This Wednesday I'll be adding a transmission cooler as a secondary radiator for even more cooling. Then the typical water/oil temp and oil pressure gauges. After that some suspension work then forced induction...

I gotta ask, why do you use Tein Flex on your Miata and the FD? I just feel they’re really cheap and not the same quality as everything else in the build. Especially after riding on Tommy’s Ohlins, I’d think you’d be looking more into something fancier; maybe even Xidas :D
@TheSlipAngle6 жыл бұрын
Flex are not bad by any means. I'd like to move the FD to Ohlin's eventually but the difference in actually time gained would maybe be .2 seconds on a course this size. I think the alignment is more important. Tommy's car was fully corner balanced before testing it. The Flex are a great bang for buck dual purpose suspension. For my Miata's they are plenty. The MonoFlex on my S2000 are really good as well. Then Flex Z on my RX-8, not so much and those are going to be replaced with Ohlin's soon.
@thepanduuh6 жыл бұрын
The Slip Angle I was looking around for my NA Miata and everyone said to stay away from Tein. Maybe you got the early batches that were made in Japan, now they’re made in Taiwan/China and are nowhere near as good. I’ve decided to build my own Bilstein coilovers with my own spring rates and bump stop lengths of choice.
@petescarport6 жыл бұрын
The Slip Angle great answer. Always go with what you know and what makes most sense. Insane amount of options these days and you can really drop a lot of money. Thanks for your videos and all your knowledge
@TheSlipAngle6 жыл бұрын
That could be true Joe. I know Tein has taken a lot of measures to cut costs. I have straight up Flex in the Miata's and FD, it was before the Street Flex and Flex Z stuff. I don't like the Flex Zs in the RX-8, the spring rates are too soft and the rears hit the bump stops way too easy.
@TheBb6prelude4 жыл бұрын
I have a the tein flex 16 way damper coils on my 94 prelude. For what it is the car runs goood. All it has a energy suspension bushings, 225 15 proxes r1rs and the tein flex. I did pretty good on the track on the stiff to the max. Now add a bigger sway bar,strute bars and other goodies and it'll be way better.

What are those seats? Looks amazing for a Miata. They look like a perfect size for a small car
@TheSlipAngle6 жыл бұрын
997 Porsche GT3 buckets. The bases are the same width as Recaro Pole positions and they are going to be pretty snug in a Miata, forcing you to have a higher seating position than you may want.

Hey hear the turbo more than the brap. What kind of exhaust and also is this due to street port and not a full port. Just wondering because I’m looking at options myself
@TheSlipAngle6 жыл бұрын
Street port still makes the engine louder than stock. I have a custom midpipe I made with a big Racing Beat resonator and a Racing Beat catback. I like Racing Beat stuff because their mufflers actually do something. Most rotaries you see have no muffler or just an N1 style can with no resonators or anything. This car with a Magnaflow muffler and nothing else as like ass bleeding loud lol. Maybe I'm just getting old but I don't like really loud cars that let the cops know you are hooning from a 1/2 mile away ;)

Curious, why do you not a run a vented hood if you're running v mount set up? Have you not had issues with too much heat in the engine bay?
@TheSlipAngle6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, with the v-mount and the dual oil coolers, I have a hard time keeping temp in this car. If it is below 80' F outside I usually have to block off an oil cooler. Below 50' I have to block both of them off. On track the temps are within normal range. I like vented hoods but i also like the sleekness of the stock hood too.

How do you feel about pushing this card hard? I love my FD so much I am always worried about it on track even though it has been "reliable." So much of my car is similar to yours it's scary - it is black, 99 front , keeps the OG oem tails (superior to the round 97+s IMO), efini badged, has silver RPF1s although staggered instead of square, GT35R single, streetported. The only major differences is I have a regular standard mount intercooler setup and black cloth interior (R2 trim). So when you speak about your FD I am just constantly nodding and smiling in agreement.
@TheSlipAngle6 жыл бұрын
Hey Steve, with any car that is highly modified I feel like there is always a bit of uneasiness when out on track. Just a lot more variables in the mix and potential for something to fail. My FD has been decently reliable. It does have a bad habbit of killing turbo flange gaskets which is really annoying though, even with remachined mating surfaces.
