I agree. For guys using these trucks for constant towing (like hotshot work), the Ram probably makes the most sense. Exhaust brake is the best, transmission is stout, sounds like the Cummins lugs the best, and with the most reliable emissions system seems like a no brainer for a person that's going to put 500k plus miles on a truck. For work less than that the drivability of the other two come into play more.

Ive had all three new modern diesels. I am a ford guy and always will be. It painful for me to say, but the lml duramax will tow mt. Everest and never break a sweat, hands down the toughest on out there. I pull a 24k gooseneck with an excavator in the nc mountains, ram cannot keep the trans, also truck redlines the entire time when engine brakeing down the hill. My 18 f250 has by far the best engine braking down the mountain with tow haul and wxhaust brake. Its an 8% grade for 5 miles. I only have to hit the brakes once. The ford tows just like the ram with low end torque, its just got a way better trans. The 2011 2500 dmax, you have to floor it around to tow as it has no ass on the bottom end, but once it's in it happy 2800-3000rpms it will pull any grade. There is on hill that is 18% grade, and I said that correct, the ram cant even touch it, the ford actually stops and wont go any more 1/2 the way up. The GM actually pulls it all the way through! Say what you want but I pull with all f250s, 2500s, and I rank gm and Ford equal. Ram a no go.

Great video, thank you very much for comparing this in such detail. I looked for a heavy duty truck earlier this year and purchased the Ford Tremor Powerstroke. I am not brand loyal and considered also the RAM w the Cummins. Unfortunately I didn't know about the GMC Duramax. I used thg Tremor to tow a 8k lbs travel trailer 17k miles cross country and it did really good doing so. The exhaust brake works sometimes great and other times it seems it doesn't work at all. I wished that would be improved. Is the gas mileage improved after you tune these trucks?
@curtisbull15832 жыл бұрын
I have watched all five of your videos this morning, and for the most part I agree with a lot of what you guys say and think you guys put a lot of good information together and did good putting puttin all things together as a complete package. One thing I think you should have put more effort in to was a discussion of reliability. Excluding 19 and 20 Rams and certain years of older Duramaxes, ford would be in my opinion the less reliable due to their fuel system. I know some guys go thousands of miles with a cp4, and some guys don't even make it out of warranty before they have a cp4 go down. There is good reason that Ram ditched the cp4 after only 2 years and GM also ditched the cp4 in 2017. Ford is still using that Pump. And in my opinion that's a terrible pump to use terrible quality for us consumers especially at the price point. The next questionable thing with the Ford is the non-serviceable 10-speed transmission. In my opinion that's stupid for a truck made to work and towheavy loads. Ford is pretty much given us a throwaway transmission, if they were cheap that would be one thing, but they're not cheap if you could even get one in the first place. A machine made to work should have a serviceable transmission and should at least have a dipstick for checking oil level. Which the new 10 speed in the Ford does not have. I'd say the RAM and GM would be a few steps more reliable than the Ford and that should be a major concern to anybody looking to buy an $80000 plus truck. I had a 21 F350, I had it for a month before I decided to trade it on a 21 Ram. I will say the Ford is a rocket ship and definitely a race truck out of the three, especially over the ram. But with tuning that is less of an issue. Although I still give Ford nod for power. Other than that the ram was just a nicer truck, way better exhaust break, nicer interior definitely a quieter interior. Have not spent much time in a GM, so can't comment on that. But a sound quality inside the cab between the Ford and the ram was no comparison to me or my wife. The ram wins hands down. Ram also has a couple cool futures and such the foud does not, one thing with the ram is you are able to view any of the cameras at any time while going down the road, Ford does not and I believe still does not have that option. The last thing I'll point on that you guys did not, is how much easier the Cummins motor is to work on, for most things, changing oil on the other hand is definitely more of a pain on the ram then the Ford, but other than that when the time comes you have to do repairs I'd much rather be doing it on the ram over the Ford or GM. Whether I was paying to have it done or doing it myself.

I have to wonder when you're referring to shift and lockup schedules of tuned trucks if they manipulated by the tunes? I know the Aisin transmission cannot be manipulated, where my RAM 2500 with the 68RFE and trans tunes made it a COMPLETELY different truck to drive.. I feel if the others had custom schedules that this comparison would still not be fair for RAM.. I know it's hard to hit every point when doing these comparisons..

Only the ford had transmission tuning. The Duramax and Cummins both had only engine tuning.

What about longevity of the v-8's? There is a reason Cummins quit making the 903 v-8. The V-8's have less low end torque. Maybe they have improved but after many years of working on diesel engines of all sorts the inline 6 will out last any v-8.

Wish you guys would sell Allison trans tune to me. Trans tuning isn't illegal to sale for a deleted and tuned LMM Duramax. The trans tunes are not deleting anything, just adjusting shift points, down shift, and TC lockup. Love your trans tune videos, contacted you to buy the trans tune and got rejected. Lost all my business and respect and have let my fellow diesel drivers know about it too. What a shame. PPEI will sale me their trans tunes, even knowing the truck is deleted and engine tuned by another tuner. They know and understand trans tunes are perfectly legal to sale regardless if a truck is deleted or not.
@Duramaxtuner4 жыл бұрын
We did not refuse to sell you the TCM tunes because your truck is deleted. We only sell TCM tunes to trucks that have our engine tunes. There is a difference. The only way to get transmission tuning right is to match it to your engine tunes. See, if we tune your TCM and have no idea what parameters are set in your ECM, how can we diagnose any future driveability or tuning issues? The answer is, we can't. We value your feedback. However, we will not be selling products to customers unless we know we can stand behind it. While I am truly sorry to hear that you are unsatisfied with our standards, we stand behind our advice to get TCM tuning from whoever tuned your ECM.

This is nice video but they are all 3 very close so why not look into the build quality. How is the engine designed or how reliable is the transmission. How easy is it to work on or how easy is it to do maintenance. The cummins is an old design engine and cast iron and seems like would be .ore bullet proof. I've heard the gmc and ford have aluminum heads. If a trucks ride is slightly better but the other truck is more reliable, I pick reliable over anything. Why not add in a review how to change oil, the transmission fluid. Maybe take a look at the design of the engine and transmission.

I'd take the Ram 1st- best looking, best interior, Cummins torque and exhaust brake, option of factory rear air suspension. I loved my '18 Cummins Aisin Ram, only real downside is the Aisin isn't tuneable. I'd take the Ford 2nd, I like the alumiduties. The GM twins can burn in hell. They're absolutely HIDEOUS!! Like Pontiac Aztek levels of hideous. GM needs an emergency restyle of those abominations. I also don't like IFS on an HD truck. Also, as a point of emphasis- all the new diesels are whisper quite. The reason everyone skips that topic is the endless questions and debates that stem from it. Driving habits, elevation, load, and so many other factors come into play with MPG. In our experience, high teens to low twenties are should be expected from a tuned, unloaded emissions equipped truck.
