Yeah the nap story was good. I did that once years ago in road construction. I was the first one in line at the flagman and I was familiar with this particular const zone so I knew I was going to be there about 15 minutes. So I took a little nap, mid afternoon, and when I came around, I looked up just as the flagman was turning the sign around. Honest. LOL I couldn't believe it!

Great review.. I have 6500 miles on my 24 Chevy 2500 Duramax. I am seeing a mpg increase the last 500 miles. I was averaging g 13.6.. now I’m see closer to 16-17 . It did improve for me. I do like the power stroke also… in fact I like all three diesels. The front independent suspension does make the difference for GM.

We’re at 650,000 miles on our 2019 f350 with no major breakdowns. I have always said the GM trucks ride nicer. I would think that with the fords riding rougher that the front end parts would wear out, not any yet. We do replace the OE shocks with bilsteins, huge improvement.

Hi Michael! Informative comparison, thanks! I’ve been watching your experience with these trucks with interest, and thought I would add my two cents. I have a 2021 GMC Sierra 5.3 gas, loaded up. I don’t put many miles on it, and about a year ago almost to the day, I was stopped at a light near my house, and noticed the engine running rough. Light turned green, went by the GMC dealership and the engine felt worse. I pulled into a parking area, and every light on the dashboard lit up! Limped back to the dealership, it was broken lifters! At barely 7,000 miles! It’s not an isolated problem Michael, I know several other people that it’s happened to. It was fixed and returned in 2 days. I still have the truck, with about 14,000 miles, but like I say, watching your comparison with interest! Oh, I will say, I’ve heard of catastrophic engine or transmission failure with all three US manufacturers! It’s not a good feeling.

Unfortunately GMC’s full size trucks aren’t that reliable anymore but all the Fords from the 1500 to 3500 aren’t any better. The GMC 2500s with the Duramax and Allison transmissions are far more reliable than the Ford offerings.

One of your recent videos told me all I need to know about choosing by GVWR for the use of a 14K trailer. Manufacturers are now blurring over the 12K GVWR that restricts what you can tow without a CDL. Thanks again Mike.

I'm a GM kind of person. I have owned Fords and Rams. One Ram i bought, I was in love with it for 508 miles until filling up the gas tank and the motor blew up. The dealer never told me why or what went wrong with the motor. They called me a month later to come in and pick out another truck. They had given me a loner. So I picked out another truck just the same as the first. It had other issues of it's own, later on. The whole front end none of the bolts were tight and I mean everyone. Once fixed it was good. On to the Chevy truck i have now. Driving home which was 30 miles, wasn't sure i would make it home. The steering wheel would wander everywhere. So going down the interstate i would be in one lane, hit a bump and end up in the other lane. This all happened after the dealership was closed, at night. After returning to the dealer, they said nothing was wrong with it. And i came very close to punching the service manager in the nose. I ended up going to another dealership and they found out the steering box was defective. As i stood outside of the cab and turned the steering wheel the tires didn't turn. Me personally don't like sunroofs. The truck i have now was the one with the bad steering which I bought at the beginning of 2018, it has barely over 16,000 miles on it. I've been retired since the end of 2010 and really don't drive much. It's a 2500 HD 4x4 bright red with the black interior with console. I prefer the console over the flip over seat thingy that a lot of trucks have. That's all I got to say about that!

Here's my experience with both trucks. 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali Duramax (owned 9 months): Leaking rear window, adaptive cruise control not working, fluid leak from rear differential pinion seal, "typewriter" tick from engine. Great looking truck that has an outstanding ride. The Duramax is a thirsty motor compared to the PSD for sure. Found brake pad dusting on the wheels to be worse on the GMC than the Ford. Traded with 2600 miles. 2023 Ford F-350 Lariat (ultimate) S.O. PSD: 2000 miles: no issues. Exhaust brake on the Ford is stronger than the GMC.

The 3.0 duramax makes the power of the big diesels from 15-20 years ago, and gets incredible mpg. I'd honestly like to see a heavy half to fill the void between the line up that would make more sense for more ppl. Great job on your review. I have enjoyed a lot of your content. Your tractor related videos played a role in my Kubota tractor selection. My current daily driver is a 2023 GMC Sierra 2500 Denali short bed with the Duramax Diesel. I've loved the truck for many of the same reasons you say here, especially the soft ride and maneuverability. You mentioned that your AT4 has adaptive cruise, which is interesting because my Denaili does not. It has the controls and the display icon, but I've never noticed it to work. Be patient on the mileage issue. You should be seeing improvements soon. I noticed quite a large improvement on MPG once the truck passed 10K miles. I'm currently at 20K and I've noticed it improve a bit up to this point. When I purchased, the dealer mentioned that mileage would be poor for a few thousand miles while the motor "broke in". I've never checked mileage by doing the math at the pump but the truck displays an average 20+ mpg at highway speeds all the time now. It was pretty awful (similar to what you said) for the first 10K miles. You also mentioned that you expected the power steps to break. I noticed a few times around 10K miles that they would deploy and stow 2x when I opened my door. It didn't happen every time, but enough that I noticed it several times. I happened to have it at the dealer for an oil change and they asked if I noticed any issues with them because they had a programming recall. After the re-program I haven't had any problems with them. I'd love to see you hang on to both trucks for the purpose of long term reviews. Thanks again for the your insite and efforts. Keep up the good work. Cheers from Arizona!

GM didn't introduce Adaptive Cruise on any HD truck until the 2024 model year and is why I wouldn't have considered one until now. It is a standalone option on lower trim trucks, and is either included or can be added with other packages on mid trim and higher trucks.

After a lifetime of ford superduties this year I took the plunge and tried GM, a 2024 Silverado 3500 duramax. 5 months and 7500 miles later and man, I think I’m a convert. I regularly tow 20k and this platform is MUCH more stable than the F350. Also the torsion bar front suspension that I always scoffed at has won me over, I was able to dial in an extra 1.25” of front ride height and balance the firmness of the front suspension with the rear, and…..fit an honest 35” tire with tons of clearance. Then I went to the alignment machine and dialed myself in some extra camber, that pretty much transformed the handling to where I can take corners at speeds that my 350 would be in a ditch and the truck just stays flat and on rails. Off-road still goes to the ford because it has so much more articulation with the coil over live axle setup. But you choose your poison, what means the most to you. I have to agree about the fuel mileage on the 24 duramax, I’m averaging the same 12.2 that Mike is😢

"Taxylvania!" YUUUP! Thanks for a fair review. Both are great trucks. I am on my third F350 CCLB diesel (2022 model) and they are beast in parking lots for sure. I'm used to it. Personally, I'd struggle with owning a vehicle with massive capabilities and then not being able to slide a sheet of plywood in the bed, put up the tailgate and pull over the tonneau cover. But, that's my priority. I live in more rural area so LB is fine. I get great mileage with mine. It is sensitive to speed. I think you should do a real mileage performance review where you capture a loop and include a regeneration cycle in each. Also, thanks for posting real towing mileage. The GMC is 3.42, that is the only ratio they put in them with a Duramax. Ford i believe they offer 3.55, 3.73 and 4.10 in the F350. None of those would be better for fuel mileage than a 3.42 on paper. Transmission are geared pretty similar too so if that Ford has 3.55's in it they would be pretty darn close on the gearing. Close enough that it probably does not matter. I wonder if the mileage drop off on the GMC was because the truck was doing a DPF regen at the time that he checked it. I own a 24 Denali 3500 with DRW and my truck will do over 22 unloaded on a long highway trip so long as its not doing a regen then it drops off into that 17 range. Unfortunately GM does not tell you when the truck is doing a regen so the only way to know is a scanner app or something like an IDash.

Interesting about the fuel mileage. Usually they both get similar and both are a lot closer to your GMCs than the Ford. But it is what it is in that regard. The GMC “short bed” is 6’10”.

Thanks Mike. Great review. I can see where trading the Bronco would make sense. I have always seen vehicles like Broncos and Jeeps as fun play and off road vehicles but not very useful as hauling and towing platforms. The truck world has come a log ways to add creature comforts while still maintaining a good hauling and towing vehicle.

Great unbiased video. We have a 23 F250 Tremor and a 23 Bronco Sasquatch. I fully support trading the Bronco. Its a fun vehicle, but when it comes to comfort and practicality the truck wins. In fact, that’s been the case with every set of vehicles we’ve owned - usually a truck and an suv- the truck always gets the call for long road trips etc… To be honest my F250 rides nicer than the Bronco imo, that may be in part due to the Tremor suspension. As for the Ford vs. GMC, both nice trucks and the better ride is explained by the independent front suspension on the GMC vs Ford’s solid axle. For long term reliability in an HD truck I prefer the solid axle even though ride and handling do suffer.

My wife daily drives a 2019 sierra 3500 duramax. She loves it. She runs 20 mpg. So I think you'll eventually get better, but driving style means a lot in fuel economy with the duramax. It does love to drink fuel with a heavy foot. My warning to those wanting a diesel for daily driving would be a lot of short tripping destroys the dpf. My wife runs 70 plus miles a day and in 75,000 miles, no issues. Thanks for sharing, Mike. I love a good comparison review. Especially when you own the both and have experience.

I appreciate this review. Fair comparison. As someone whos towed a light landscape trailer 4-5k daily for the past 6 years I got rid of my 2500hd due to the atrocious ride and cost of maintenance. Ive picked up a Tundra a few years back and have never been happier. Plenty of power, comfortable and didnt break the bank. Long term reliability IDK yet but should be good knowing toyota. If I needed an HD truck again I think I might go ford and that's after owning GMs for 20 years. I just find their reliability to have slid quite a ways.

Interesting cause I'm a landscaper that had 2 tundras but sold the one to get a new HD. Towing and working in general with an HD it's a big difference compared to the Tundra. Tundra is still very decent for the easier jobs and lighter loads but also it will require more maintenance (new brakes etc) if you use it for work compared to an HD that it's made for it. Just my experience. I like having both. HD for heavier loads that the Tundra can't do and Tundra for lighter stuff
@Enchanted3DPrints

@@Pantelifts10 Yep different strokes for different folks. I got rid of anything i needed an HD truck for. Keep in mind the tundra can tow 10k which is plenty for me. It feels more powerful and stable at speed(my 2500hd would get thrown all over the place when I hit uneven surfaces). Ive got 62k on it now and just replaced my first set of tires. All other wear parts(including brakes) are in the green according to the sheet the service department gives you. I dont tow heavy. 3-4k 5-7 days a week since new. My 2500hd was rated for 13k. The motor was a dog and trans let loose at 120k. Not to mention the other 10k in repairs it cost me over that 120k( i could make a list a mile long of failures from major to annoying) . I just plain don't trust GM after 2 major failures at or below 120k( the other was an engine in a previous truck). I do maintenance on time and whenever is recommended by the dealer. Like I mentioned above, I would probably buy a ford if i needed another HD truck. Not sure what manufacturer you went with but I hope you have better luck than me.

I have a crew cab 8 foot bed Silverado and its a lot of fun trying to park in these tight parking lots. I just bought myself a brand new personal truck recently too a new Denali Ultimate. I kinda wish I waited a little bit because right after I got it the 24 3/4 and 1 ton Ultimate came out. Not that I need another HD truck but it would have been nice. That half ton Ultimate though is so damn nice. It has the LZ0 Duramax and it gets crazy fuel mileage. I have a house just a little north of you and I live on the beach in SC. I just went from up north back to SC for a few weeks and when I left up there I hadn't filled up in 2 weeks. I got all the way to High Point, NC and still had between an 1/8th and 1/4 think it only has a 22 gallon tank. I topped off in NC and drove another 5 hours home and I still had 3/4 tank when I got home. I drove around 3 weeks and still had a half tank. On the highway I have got as high as 39mpg. It averages like 27mpg just daily driving. The LZ0 is a 3.0 straight 6 diesel. 305hp and 475 ft/lbs. What gears do you have in these trucks. Maybe they are geared different that could account for the difference in fuel mileage. I guess these new 10 speeds kinda make up for it some but if you have something like 410 in the GMC and say a 373 or something in the Ford that can explain the difference in fuel mileage. Are you using additive in your diesel? I add every filling. They tell you to buy top tier diesel but there is literally nowhere around here that sells it. Even if they did I would still add additive.

Man. Both are gorgeous! That red with the black accent is striking. I really love the front end on the GMC and Chevy. The 2024 GM interior is a huge improvement. That being said.. I think on balance the advantages of the Ford take the day for me. (1) aluminim body doesn't rust. Yes it can corrode but I have never seen one 2015+ corrode through. I live in a heavy salt state. Its a lot easier to treat just the frame, and undercarriage with an oil or oil wax. (2) the interior seats, sunroof, power adjusted pedals, power adjusting steering wheel, full lay flat seats (I knap on my truck almost every day as most days are 12-15 hours before I'm home. (3) What I absolutely love about the GMC is the exterior aggressive look. (4) love the multifunction tail gate! (5) overall ride of GMC… however I prefer the solid axle of the Ford. Two quick things to help the ford a bit. (1) replace the brake pads with ceramic pads. It makes a huge difference. (2) get the short bed (3) if you really want to make the ford ride even nicer than the GMC… get the Carli E-Venture suspension system and put on 35’ NITO ridge grapleers or Toyo 35 AT tire. The ride is as good maybe better than the F-150 Raptor. It looks amazing but the extra 3” of height screams power step.

Adaptive cruise i probably prefer regular cruise, my wife loves the adaptive on our f150. Great review on the pros and cons of each. We love our 2023 badlands Bronco. Its nice if running errands fits in most places easier than a truck.

Like you Mike - I too have driven Ford, Chevy and GMC. I prefer a Ford, I had Ford and GMC for work trucks and the Fords lasted longer and were more rugged (my opinion). I think the Bronco is on the block. Stay safe.

I think you will benefit much more by trading the Bronco. Both trucks serve multiple purposes. The Bronco is just a ride, and that's it. GMC, daily use. F150, hauling the heavier things. Nice video, thanks.👍🚜❤️🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸

The 22 fords are my favorite. I think that was the perfect front end. I ended up with a 24 at4 2500 and love it. Both will cost us an arm and leg down the road once that warranty is up lmfao Great vid brother!

You have the best of both worlds. I agree with Melissa. Bye Bye Bronco, Hello AT4. It would be interesting to track the two trucks to 50,000 miles and see how they do. Good Sponsors for sure.😎

I heard this from a guy who had several slide in campers for his 13:20 trucks. Owned the three main brands. He said he preferred driving the Chevy unloaded but the Ford with a camper on it
