Ant, you've out done yourself! Breakdown of my enjoyment: Opening up, I'm hyped. I'm excited. A new upload. The first 10secs open us up to the intro of our setting with a title "TUNER EVOLUTION Philadelphia 2021," a smooth swooping shot (slowed) of an Evo, and a brief shot (again, slowed) of a dude wearing Tuner Evo merchandise which shares a little history about the event through the 15th Anniv. design touted on the back of the shirt. This time taken to introduce these three things gives the audience a setting and an expectation, and was a necessary amount of time spent doing such things - no more or less, needed. The slowed shots in addition to the song's lowered bass, seemingly through an equalizer, keeps us leaning in. Then 0:10 hits. ASS! Big, fat, 240sx rear end. With a little bounce as it steps into the garage, and up the raised concrete. Hot! From there, we have our arrival-to-entrance shots, tying in our sequence of events. Basic story telling, that's overlooked far too often amongst junior/armature automotive cinematographers. The flip side of this being that too much time is spent on arrival-to-entrance. Some can get away with more than others. 0:15 - 0:17 Silky transition, taking full advantage of the song. The introductory track then goes on to capture full swing of the event with shots of the crowds, cars, and entertainment inside the venue. 0:50 -0:56 gave me TFATF Race War vibes from the BT-sounding synths in combination with the shot angles taken of the cars. 1:31 the track structure progresses, establishing a second layer. 2:11 the track structure progresses further, leading into a seamless transition of the next track. 2:41 we are about 11secs into the next track. Ant, amazing job blending, per usual. 3:12 we are halfway through the introduction of the lovely S2000, the track switch-up begins the build-up for MY FAVORITE drop this year! So hyped. Big fan of all the still shots littered throughout thus far. 3:18 is a hell of shot - in love with the front 3/4 shot in a wide angle! Exemplary use of the rule of thirds. AND the drop (3:25)!! With an eye-level (with respect to the S2000) running shot, the car being brought into full frame. A great transition to a HOLY low angle shot (3:28) of the E30. Like any low angle, this brings a great deal of attention to the car in a way that gives it omnipotence. It doesn't help that the shot was taken in a way that appears we are sneaking up on the car, as though not to disturb it. The car is a dark color, and its stance is bigger than most E30s - this further illustrates its presence on screen. The drop in bassline of the track in combination with the way the car has been brought to our attention gives off a brooding vibe. It takes three shots to introduce the car to us. AND THEN, the bassline rises! And as it does so we move to an opposing force, the very bright white Mugen-flavored RSX. Again, the opposition in cars from the former shots of the E30 to the latter shots of the RSX is highlighted through a running away effect of the camera. Beautiful! From when the drop began it seems the caliber of cars had increased (opinion), which further cemented my position on this being my favorite. If it wasn't a big body car complimenting this second track, it was big turbos (RSX), big status (NSX & ST185). Skipping the third track and onto the final, I enjoyed the introduction of the winner along with visuals (6:28). Smooth rolling shots of the RSX with a high BPM track behind it. The shots broken by the expo center pillars fell into time with the music, further adding to the experience. Big fan of the crawling viper shot (6:38)! Amazing trio (6:58) - shot would've been perfection if J.R. (love you bro) wasn't there. 7:55 - 8:12 is special to me, as I dreamed of owning one of these for my first car. To see so many of them all in one shot, is as if all the heroes of a movie franchise were together in a single shot. Every single one looked to have been built properly! I was very pleased with this as a closer. Bonus: 5yrs ago you brought Steve's RSX to us!
