For sure the first two gears there was some spin, but after that it was purely banging against the limiter due to not shifting early enough. You can also clearly hear the revs gradually pick up and not go straight to limiter which would indicate spinning.

I'm going to have to say the 2 Liter MK8 sounded quite a bit better on the idle revs! The MK2 VR6 is pretty amazing putting the power down on the roll. He just barely missed winning the 2nd with a slight mis-shift into on 5th. Probably should of stayed in 4th. Too bad about the dig races and issues with MK2. The MK8 has some seriously impressive #'s. Thanks for the VW content! I'm more old school but props to both.

Both gorgeous cars but I actually prefer the MK8. It’s the best example of the breed and just gets on with business without fuss. Not taking anything away from the VR6 Rallye though. My opinion might be clouded slightly by my incoming large repair bill for one or two of the turbos on my diesel Volvo 😡

Always find these fellas with money to build fast old school cars can drive the wheels off them half the time, growing up in the 90s and early 2000 and being abit of a grafter you had to know how to drive cars hard and be at one with how as car acts even with just how you go into 3rd gear as most folk over compensate letting the selector naturally slip into 3rd gear because when the cars in natural it’s ready to go in the location of 3rd and 4th gear. If any gear change is tricky at speed it’s 5th. Never miss the 3rd gear because it’s game over then

SLIGHTLY byast being an old school man. That was a damnnnnnn cool showdown. Imagine Mike (G60) Tyson Vs Muhammed (MK8R) Ali. One savage brawler - One technical and precise fighter. Give the G60 a DSG box and it would win on pure savagery. Give the MK8 a manual box and it still wouldnt be savage enough to win. Savagery, big testicles and a ,"F**k This" kind of mentality wins races. G60 wins on soundcheck too 🎶 ❤ I think with some voodoo magic on the gearbox/clutch/shifter, some tweaking with suspension/damping and some tuning to the launch. that G60 would smoke the 8R. That said, the MK8R didnt come to play today and thats what matters, its a beautifully made machine. Quality match up Jamie bro. Get these boys bacm down to do it again. Jamie - do you remember Abz' R32 Turbo on LLF's page a couple of uears ago? I think it was 550bhp the first time, then he came back on with 800bhp - any idea where thay car is as i know it was for sale at the beginning of the year on Ebay. I reckon that needs to be lined up next to these boys, oh - and it it Luke in the black mk5 R32, he is defo in with a shout. Best sounding engines ever produced them 6 pots.

By the looks of it, That is 800hp turbo and you can clearly see that this engine needs to rev higher to get better powerbandand average power number. Whenever he shifts he loses about half of the power. With 600hp and proper powerband this car should run low 11s on the quarter back easily! And wod send this mk8 home

This was an enjoyable race between to very respectable fast cars, i believe the drivers of the cars also done justice enough to compete in this challenge... Just reading through some of the comments and some individuals' argue' that one of the drivers is at fault, which consequently causes him to loose the race... I doubt that many of you' have experience a car of this age or driven one (vw MK2 G60 Rallye 1980's) with less than half its power, muchness the 600 plus BHP the Rallye entails. its just so amusing to hear the technical slanders thrown at the driver which resulted in him loosing the race .... An experience car guy will note, that this Rallye makes so much power & TORQUE 'it wheels spin's in top gears to, even after 70mph plus, which will give an impression that the driver is hitting the rev limiter like a novice ...but even if he hits the limiter as everyone is hearing via the on-board cam, that doesn't mean hes reached full in-gear speed, one still needs to hold it in gear until the traction is restored to the wheels and revs drop enough to maintain forward motion for the next gear change... Then there is fact of maintaining forward motion of the vehicle by the inertia initially created by the LAUNCH..... Not easy to understand by todays drivers, that only have their experience's with PDK,DSG'S and all the other automatics variants .... One thing we can all agree on , we've acknowledge which is' the faster car,, and faster than a full on computer aided machine (VW MK8 golfs),.... For all the people saying he cant shift, that gearbox 02M its not impossible but its really shit to shift fast. And it brakes the forks inside even on stock power. That start in 2nd gear doesn't help him on the rolls in my opinion the moment he steps on the gas and its already on rev limiter, better start in 3rd have a little boost lag but freight train to 4th and 5th gear. The gears on the 02M are really short.
