A masterpiece of acting from all the acomplished actors in this classic film.

Deeper than what it appears: the ''esprit de corps' for a life-time, the soul of the INCEPTION of an army......profound study of this subject. Excellent. Thank you.

A true master class in acting from Milles and Guinness I’ve watched this film several times now and it just gets better and better. Oh and I always watch taking a dram… 🥃

🇬🇧 For me, quite a unique film, giving us an early attempt that scratches the surface of the psychological breakdown due to PTSD. Either from experiences of war or from being a POW. ⚔️ Though both protagonists were opposite in character, they suffered equally. The realisation after the suicide, looking himself in the mirror, he felt guilt, but was also a trauma 'trigger' which brought back his own haunting memories of war. ⚔️ He tries to mask it with his boisterous banter and drink to help him sleep and numb the pain. The ghosts of war can haunt you, and if they do, then you need to seek help, to live again... Ubique 🕊

I had a nephew, who after serving two tours of duty in Afghanistan, had a meltdown back home. He was shot dead by military police (PTSD). He was buried with full military honors. War is hell. I miss him. 😢

The acting was excellent but I may be too 21st Century to fully understand the plot.

For military veterans this story line is a pure gem.

@@gadgetgus Thanks for your feedback. I had not picked-up on the fact that the character played by Alec G. also had PTSD and was dealing with it differently. How do members of the general public pick up on clues to help those who suffer from PTSD?

The film does a good job of portraying the life of the Officers of a British, or in this case, Scottish regiment and their Mess, which many current and former military can relate to, even if many things have changed over the years. The lack of understanding of PTSD, which clearly afflicted Barrow, and perhaps Sinclair was a feature of the period, which many veterans sadly suffered from in silence, ot the bottle, etc. PTSD can have many symptoms, but is generally the result of hormonal imbalances that can be triggered by various stimuli that reminds its sufferers of past trauma. Sometimes it fades away with time, but it can also linger for decades if left untreated or managed.

The film has a "narrow viewer" band. For a military veteran, this film is golden.
