Thanks for watching. This trimmer was running fine until it started leaking some fuel. That was just the start of the problems. In the end I had to adjust the way the trimmer was started but it works every time now.

When I pull 4 times plus and it doesn't start,then there's usually a few choice words lol, I found out by watching your videos,that when it hits max speed turn it down a ¼ turn and it's perfect, usually I turned it down till the rpms just dropped off and then it seem like it had no power,so I also found out that it drops off at a half turn,so in the middle of that is perfect,thanks for the videos man and helping me figure this out,now my weedeater has great throttle response,it's lasted over a year at this adjustment and still does great

I have a general question regarding 2 cycle oil. I have an edge trimmer that runs on 50:1 gas oil mix ratio. The oil that was provided when I bought the trimmer was a reddish color (as opposed to the dark blue color oil). Can I use the same 50:1 mix but with the blue colored oil instead of the reddish colored oil in the edge trimmer, will it cause any long term or short term damage?
@HomeGaragechannel
@HomeGaragechannel 3 жыл бұрын
As far as a difference between what came with the trimmer and what you can find on the store shelves I don't think theres a big difference. You can use the blue oil which is what use. The most important part is making sure you're mixing the oil correctly. I don't think anyone would fault you if you tried to find the same oil that came with it though.

When I serviced them for Ryobi & did warranty repairs on them some of them didn't start right out of the box & they just needed a carburetor adjustment. My manager was caught by one which had an air leak underneath the carburetor base from brand new so it had an air leak which is why it refused to start. In older machines other variables such as a loss of compression is also a cause of hard starting !

Thinking of getting a set of those pac man carb adjusting screwdrivers. I found a set of 8 all different ones for $7 on amazon. I have a string trimmer by i believe it's craftsman and it isn't running right. It has a warm up feature which locks the throttle at about half open and it runs fine on that but once you press the throttle it disengages that and it tries to run but not very well. Any ideas? I thought it was due to using a gas oil mix of too much oil. Not sure of the ratio but I put in maybe half a bottle of 2 cycle oil per gallon and 4 oz of gas. My gas can holds 1 gallon and 4 ounces of fuel. I don't want to gum up the carb but I also don't want to blow up my engine.
@HomeGaragechannel
@HomeGaragechannel 3 жыл бұрын
what's the capacity of your 2 cycle oil bottle? Yes it seems your trimmer runs well on the start position which is part throttle and a lot of choke and when off theres not enough fuel. I would definitely get the tool and turn the screw closer to the filter about a half turn counter clockwise.

sure, does it matter if you choke it again when it's hot. If so, then the carb could benefit from an adjustment to start better, however the change could affect how it runs. it's a trade off.

that's subjective to each case. How much would it be to fix if you did it, How much time would it take , and in the end, would you have a reliable machine for years of use after you're done. For me, if it takes as much money in time and parts as a replacement trimmer, I wouldn't bother.

Happy New Year, buddy. I have the exact same strimmer, only difference is my carb only has one eyelet for slotting the throttle cable into were yours has five. Have you had any problems with the throttle cable going slack and the engine won't rev? The problem seems to be where the cable slots into the throttle lever housing on the shaft, it constantly goes slack from pressing down on the lever. I have taken it apart and it's a flimsy set-up. The cable slots into a recess in the housing but because it's cheap plastic, it won't stay in place. I have to loosen the housing screws, pull the cable back into place and tighten it up again. It doesn't take long before the cable goes loose again. Just wondering if you came across a fix for this? The only good thing I've found with these Ryobi's is the cardiovascular workout they give you especially when they're hot, they're nearly impossible to start. My strimmer will be the death of me after taking a massive heart-attack. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I wouldn’t even pick one of these up for free. Yes, they are in a certain price point but for another $100 you can buy something that will last 10 years or more instead of a season or two. Come on, not even an air filter. That’s a pretty good indicator that it’s garbage and won’t last.

It is NOT always just because of the caburetter. For my 30cc Ryobi I have had to clean the "spark arrestor" screen at the muffler FIRST. It was almost totally clogged up with soot after a few years and that caused the trimmer to stall.

Most half crank weedeater's have a starter in that area if you see one at the pull start on the back it means it's a full crank engine which means it has two crank bearings and a better made crank shaft most of the cheaper trimmers have half crank engines but a echo or something equivalent will have a full crank
@imanolberecibar
@imanolberecibar 3 жыл бұрын
The starter pulley goes between the clutch and the flywheel, when you pull the the starter it engages with 2 pawls located in the flywheel, this saves space and mony since it's a half-crank desing but it's very annoying when you have any issue related to the starting system with such design since you have the split the machine in two to get to the starter system

It’s a used Ryobi. Show the new owner how to start it, or they can buy a new unit….I doubt they would read the old directions anyway.
@kevinwoodcock7578
@kevinwoodcock7578 3 жыл бұрын
Those ryobis are junk... If the pull cord breaks on those things, the machine is basically wall art. The procedure to change it requires so much work that you would be under water if ya took it to a small engine shop. If doing it yourself, plan on 3 hours. I would personally stay away from any machine with a pullcord located shaft side. Just an insane engineering gaff.

@@HomeGaragechannel My buddy bought the unit that offers all the different add ons. He was 400 deep in extras for the machine when the pull cord broke after only a couple of years. It was cheaper for him to buy a new power head than get the machine repaired. After seeing how extensive the repair was, i wanted no part of it.. Crazy huh?

Spoken like a true desk jockey, It took me a whole 20 minutes to replace my string and spring! These engines will run just is smooth as an echo, The only problem these machines have is the fact that their owners have no idea what they are doing! I love how everyone in this comment section is thanking him because this video helped them to get theirs started, And then they say that it runs but not real smooth and still having issues starting! I can tell you with 100% confidence that almost everything in this video was incorrect, I can tell he has a little knowledge but not enough to make it run perfectly! First of all there are ports in that carburetor that are most likely clogged! If you’re going to do any type of carburetor repair you should do a complete tear down and then clean and inspect every port in that carburetor, If there is even the tiniest piece of debris in that carburetor he will never be able to tune it properly! You can’t tune a carburetor properly if it is clogged, Even if the carburetor isn’t clogged he’s not going to be able to tune it properly because he does not know what he’s doing! Believe it or not there is actually a certain order you have to follow if you want to get this machine to run perfectly, And I can tell you that going back-and-forth with the adjustments is definitely not the way! People need to stop watching KZbin videos so they can learn how to fix something, The way you left that machine and the statement you made about it running good enough for you tells me a lot about your character! Even though the carburetor was disassembled you couldn’t be bothered to clean and inspect all of the ports, You have the tool to adjust the carburetor but you were too lazy to check Ryobi‘s website for instructions on how to properly tune this carburetor! I hope you are not this lazy with everything that you do, I’m willing to bet that there is at least one woman walking around disappointed! If you do not know what you are doing you should state it in your videos or stop making them! It’s people like you who make these videos and then people try to do it themselves and fail and then go purchase another one! I am an actual Mechanic and I can’t even tell you how many times a person came into my shop because they relied on a video like this and they screwed up their car! These machines will run for many years as long as they are maintained properly, I have this exact machine and it starts with less than five pulls every time hot or cold! You do not need to adjust the starting instructions, Don’t blame the machine because you left the carburetor clogged! I can prove everything that I have said! If someone has one of these Machines and it was running properly and then after sitting for a while it would not start or run properly, You can mail me just the engine and I will make a video of me repairing it and then starting and running just as good as all the others! I can verify who I am and where I live so you don’t think this is a scam, My goal is to teach people that these videos should not be followed! If you want to remove this comment then you should consider removing this video also!
