Sheers fly wheel key. I bet they hit something hard with the blade ❤

Sheared flywheel key because it's trying to or wanting to yank the pull cord out of your hand.
@HomeGaragechannel2 сағат бұрын
that was my thought as well.

Valves and out of time and cylinder is probably full of gas could also have internal cylinder scoring due to dirt ingestion being run with no air filter

I would have to check the blade for damage first, it can tell a story. I don't see flywheel keys come apart often but when they do, it's usually because they used it for accidental stump removal.

Sounds like a sheered flywheel key, possibly bent crankshaft which often ends with loose or even broken engine mounts, carburetor service and hopefully it’s not too far gone do to missing filter element. I like the simplicity of this machine, wish Briggs used a bigger diameter cranks on this engine
@HomeGaragechannel16 сағат бұрын
my thoughts too.
@Renault_75-34MX17 сағат бұрын
I'd say sheered flywheel key. The sheered key caused the flywheel to be off timing, meaning spark is also off timing, so the engine just gets flooded with petrol instead of igniting it. The flooding is probably what caused the resistance because fluid don't/barely compress. Another guess could be no spark, which also could lead to flooding.

I’d just change the transmission but most the mowers I repair for resale and I couldn’t in good conscience sell a mower like that. It’s a good fix for your personal mower though I guess.

Id prefer a tecumseh over a briggs. Back in 2006 I picked up my very first carter double seat go kart. It was equipped with a 6.0hp power sport tecumseh. After 18 years it still runs strong. The only part I have replaced on it is the carburetor and thats about it.

nice and I've heard those are some great go karts too.

I run my gas generators out of fuel when not in use, and I run them once a month under almost full load. my main generator is a 6kw diesel light plant. diesel generators must not be run dry.
@HomeGaragechannelКүн бұрын
of course, otherwise bleeding them is a huge pain.
@JoshKilenКүн бұрын
@@HomeGaragechannel not to bad if you know what you are doing, but my light tower uses a Kohler KDW 1003 engine, and it has unit type injectors, pretty easy to rebleed, just supply them with fuel.

Nice repair video, bro! I’ve never seen a lawnmower transmission torn apart. I am a small engine mechanic, but still fairly new to the trade and haven’t had to tear into a transmission yet.
@HomeGaragechannel2 күн бұрын
thanks man. If I was working at a repair shop or if I owned it, I would not recommend this fix because of warranty issue not to mention time. Most consumers would never pay to have this repair done and with no guarantees either.
@Autistic-Uhbuddy17 сағат бұрын
@ I hear ya. My dad opened up a transmission (may be a CVT as it is variable speed, no “set” speeds) on a 20 year old Husqvarna mower one time and fixed it successfully. He gave me the mower and I still have it. I’m looking to sell it. The unit is a 1999 model with some kind of plastic or fiberglass deck, still in solid condition. Has a 5.5 hp Briggs Quantum on it. So yeah,it’s 26 years old now, and still fires right up.
@HomeGaragechannel17 сағат бұрын
nice, but you don't want to hold on to it and use it? Sounds like a great mower.

Hey that’s a great fix! I definitely would’ve given the same repair a shot. I always keep some of those General Transmission gear boxes around for 22” Toro and AYP mowers, but honestly I’ve never come across a bad one yet. I’m sure it’ll happen sooner or later, though!

Any fix that works is a good fix. I would have done the same repair, or pull it apart, take careful measurements, then make replacement parts from alloy for longevity.

Thats a great idea, melting the pin into place, it's cheaper to do that, then buy a new transmission, especially if the person I'm doing the work for is on a budget, and can't afford a new transmission, and needs the mower to last for a season or two, maybe more
@HomeGaragechannel2 күн бұрын

like the way you cleaned your trimmer I learned something didn't know you could spray it off to clean it was afraid it would cause starting problems. thanks
@HomeGaragechannel2 күн бұрын
I know right, I was afraid too the first time. I would still be careful "where" you spray though. Stay away from the openings in the muffler and the air filter of course
@gearhead3662 күн бұрын
I would attempt to repair. A self-propelled mower with a broken drive system is harder to push than a simple non self-propelled version. This, IMO, is the weak link on Toro mowers, and that transmission looks a LOT like the one in my Toro. Thanks for the tips on a possible repair.

something i thought about; you could have technically used a 3d printer to print new gears with stronger plastic, but im assuming you don't have one so thats probably out of the question. something else i thought about was to melt the gear on the other side so maybe the same thing didnt happen
@HomeGaragechannel2 күн бұрын
you are correct, In fact I think I asked that before on the original version of this repair... "should I have melted the plastic on the other gear".. Most people said I should have too. But this mower is long gone so hopefully it's still holding up .
