@@iPixelFace 2nd opinion: not likely. This is my first video but I'm honestly disappointed. I have nothing but compliments for his content, presentation, and ability to break down complex processes...but this did nothing to explain the tuning process lmao. Title should have been "Engine management explained" and honestly anybody who didn't know any of these basics already should not be in charge of deciding whether they need a tune or not. I'm far from a pro at anything but I went from knowing squat about tuning, to unskillfully being able to reverse engineer ecu programming(the first step into tuning a stock ECU) in a matter of 2 months all because of a NATS failure which has nothing to do with tuning... And to prove how much of a pro I am not, last night I discovered the NATS failure was brought on by loose harness pins...I "learned" how to tune for nothing but even i can recognize this video is pointless for its intended purpose

Before, I thought that engine turning was a waste of money that would alter the OEM equilibrium of your engine and that, as a result, you would get ten additional hp, but your engine would blow up in 5k miles. Now I understand the purpose of engine tuning. It's basically an art of balancing all the parameters of an engine to reach the best performance, which doesn't necessarily mean blowing up your engine

@balakay15382 жыл бұрын
Companies will usually do one big turbo or two smaller turbos. Having one turbo is cheaper to manufacture and will usually suck in more air than two small turbos. The negative of a single big turbo is that it has lag (which is the time it takes for the turbines to spin fast enough to make boost). Twin turbos are smaller, but their smaller size lets the turbines get to that fast speed needed to suck in air for boost. The negatives that come with a twin turbo are more expensive manufacturing costs and less power at high RPM. The way companies fix this is they have a twin turbo setup that has different sized turbos, a small one for low RPM, and a big one for high RPM. I’m not super educated in how it works and I don’t want to spread misinformation, but that’s the general idea on single vs twin turbos.
@unchaval5463 Жыл бұрын
@@balakay1538there are 2 types of twint turbo configuration. Pararell and compound. In pararell you split the motor in half. Lets imagine an i6 you would have a turbo for each 3 exhaust outlets. In compound you have a smaller and a bigger as you said. Hope this helps.
@alanboggs2315 Жыл бұрын
Manufacturers use them for different reasons depending on what they want. There is no one answere is right to it. Two is obviously able to do more than one for efficiency. Sure there could be 2 tiny ones compared to 1 big one. But 2 share the work. I know some manufacturers use ons for acceleration and 1 for top end speeds. There is various purposes for it. 😊

Us boomers with numbers matching old muscle cars like optimized tuning too but obviously can't be ditching our carbs & distributors for ECM systems. There is money to made if a tuner was open to learning old school rejetting and recurving. Takes more time to do so, but when charging buy the hour, so what.

This is good information. I’ve always wondered how an ECU works and how it properly reads data from input sensors. In Minecraft, I made a 4 cylinder engine with a CAN system that can check misfires, determine engine load and speed, check if the fuel pump I created is flowing properly and determine fuel trim, and more. It’ll throw respected OBD codes and will keep the check engine light on as long as the battery i created is fully charged

This is Controls of your vehicle boys. I worked on a GM vehicle, we have very limited access of the ICE and in the CAN bus we had like 6k signals. Modifying your ECU is very hard, and requires a lot of testing. Bear in mind that your ECU has so many other adjustments to compensate for all types of events in the road, so don't assume that just by tunning your ECU once will give great performance in every scenario. It may just work great for that afternoon 😁 and suck the rest of the week. My utter most respect for the guys who tuned ECU.

I have a BMW K1600 motorcycle and needs to be tuned. One thing you may mention in the end to be aware of EPA constrictions. In Europe they are tougher than US and thus imported motorcycles can be tuned to not only make them faster but just ride better. At around 65/85 I like to be a low poluter and before that and after that I bought this thing for FUN, if I want to. Making the tables, like you mentioned are very complex. Great video the best one I've seen for a breakdown on the basics, I've been trying to tune a 2015 XP 1000 with a 1065 big bore kit with air extreme and stage 6 trinity full exhaust with only a dynojet pv3 and power core software. The shop that did the 1065 upgrade sent the tune to go with it but after flashing the ECU with it, the machine won't run and backfires when idling. I'm in the process of making a custom tune for it because puting it on a Dyno is not possible in my area and was told by dynojet any tune I try from any website won't do the machine justice because of all the extreme modifications or upgrades my options were Dyno it or create a custom tune. So I got creative and this video answered a few questions I couldn't get answers to, so thank you

It's beyond my comprehension how an ECU receives signals, compares , adjusts, etc. in the miniscule time frame that all this happens. Actually the fact that an engine runs at 8000 rpm and does so with relative ease (appears such) considering intake-compression-power-exhaust happening multiple times per second is another thing that blows my mind. I just have to accept it, because IT IS happening!!

It basically comes down to the clock speed of the CPU (central processing unit) inside the ECU. Microprocessors are a very fascinating topic and a whole 'nother universe / rabbit hole to delve into. The most advanced CPUs in consumer electronics are your PC/Laptop and smartphone. Just understanding how many calculations it takes to play and display this video is fascinating. This video is 1920x1080 pixels updating at 30 frames per second. That is 2,073,600 pixels each frame or 62,208,000 pixel updates per second. Each pixel has 3 values that range from 0-255 (Red, Green, Blue) so basically your graphics driver is calculating 186 million values EACH SECOND to display this video... and this is light work for a modern GPU! If you can't tell, I find computer engineering just as marvelous as automotive! :)
